I feel like all the comments surrounding ogham that are saying that she shouldn't use something she's not familiar with, it's almost like how I have a Korean character in my webcomic despite not being Korean myself but still learning things to do with it and trying to be as accurate as possible. I may be taking the comments the wrong way, but the way I perceive them is that they're saying not to, in a word, "fetishize" ogham. I am Irish and Welsh among other things, and I feel like with enough research and fact-finding and learning, using something you aren't previously familiar with but are trying to be as accurate as possible and respectful with should be ok. It's like leaving a religion to study, for example, Wicca. I think seeing this written language is pretty cool. In my opinion, it should be ok to keep in the story. If something is wrong, people can give you feedback and help fix it.

Sorry for no responses, we've been busy planning the next Kickstarter and I haven't been reading comments closely. I draw from a number of germanic, welsh, and celtic folklore inspirations for the lore of The Hunt, which might not be obvious at this point in the story since the magic of it all has been a mystery to our main characters until this point. I decided on using ogham because it fell within the sphere of folklore I've researched. I've used online translators to write the ogham, so if it seems like gibberish as I saw you said in another comment above that might be a mistake on my end, somewhere within the translation process. In this page I used the gaelic word for restrain, 'bacadh' and used an online translation process to write that in ogham. But it's very possible I wrote it incorrectly or something in the translation process was incorrect. For that I'm sorry, I try my best while writing and drawing these pages, but at some point I have to get a page finished and might get something wrong. I am a melting pot of german, norwegian and irish, but I grew up in a catholic environment that really demonized a lot of the folklore I reference. As I've grown to resent the church in my adult life I've enjoyed learning about these different kinds of folklore and wanted to incorporate them into my work. But if I've gone too far with ogham, I apologize. If you do find this offensive I'm open to taking it out of the comic. I can't do anything for the few instances of it that exist in earlier pages since those are already printed, but I can take it out here and not use it going forward.

No it can’t, it’s gibberish. Thus my other comment you replied to. It has been gibberish and only using 5-6 feda at a time since the beginning. It is also being used by Welsh witches who have never historically been associated with it. Glad it’s giving you a history boner because it’s being appropriated tho??? ETA NOT Gibberish and Lucid replied to me below I'm feeling much better. But also probably don't tell people with genuine complaints that the things that are offending them give you a boner? Even if you delete the comment the notification remains.

I’ve commented on a couple of pages asking for context for ogham being chosen! It’s really starting to bother me that there’s been no response and it keeps being used in this way. I really hope you’ll respond, Lucid, I love your work and I don’t want to have to cut off my subscription but if it continues I may have to because this is just too new agey appropriation for me to be comfortable with fiscally supporting it without discussion!

ogham is written from bottom to top so I was imagining it as like pulling energy out of the ground. I do think that it's more for the strings effect, though, since that isn't translatable ogham.

It's ogham, it's not translatable as far as I can tell. The bottom left the first cluster of words the mom's left hand is over say: hhbacadhbacadh acadhhacadh dhbaacadh hadhbacadhbacadh

Okay, I've been trying to figure out what this was for years. Do you have any ogham resources that you recommend for someone trying to learn more?

I'm curious why you're using ogham for the magic and what resources you're using for it. Are you going to discuss it at any point in the lore? Ogham is super under studied and as a person who specializes in it it's always so worrying when I see it come up just for the #Aesthetic since it's an Irish cultural thing that has next to no easily accessible authentic resources on it. I'm under the impression this group is mostly Welsh based on their names and I'm confused about your use of ogham and would like to hear why you chose it! I'm not being able to translate your lines into anything I immediately recognize, at least.
