Well, it also helps to keep in mind that Anya is actually implied to be younger than 6. She says at the beginning that she's 6 after reading Twilight's mind that he's looking for someone around that age. But she should actually be maybe 4 or 5 at best at the start of the series, so she's actually 1 or 2 years younger than the rest of her class. And her being an orphan, it's hard to say just how much regular education she's had up until this point. So it's actually pretty impressive that she managed to get passing grades on her own. Especially with her early grades being completely terrible.
