Merlin, I nearly busted a gut laughing at this chapter. 😂

Voldemort, “Unrealistic and dumb ambitious…” Quirell, “Perhaps we are expecting too much of a Hufflepuff, Master.”

I mean, you could try reading it one day. Only thing is that it would be far enough down the line that you might not care about HP entirely. HPMOR is an example of a fic that's easy to bounce off of, but if you get through the beginning bits it's much easier to like and appreciate. One person rewrite the first few chapters since they're so ass. Some people bounce off due to completely misunderstanding it, which I also wish could be worked through. And then there are others where it's simply not the fic for them. Regardless, especially since you wouldn't/shouldn't even try reading it any time soon, there's not much of a point in thinking about it. And depending on the reason why you did bounce off of it, could be worth it, one day. One notable thing to me about it is that there's a fan "audio book" that's more akin to an audio play, with different VAs for most characters, and primary characters actually sounding really good. So despite the rough edges of that too, I also don't have literally anything else like it. The amazing Hermione, McGonagall, Snape, and Dumbledore VAs make it worth it almost entirely of themselves. (Narrator does Harry, Draco, and Quirrel and is also so good.) I've never reread HPMOR but I always relisten to that every other year or so. If there's any reason to retry, it's this. But I don't want this fic to be influenced by HPMOR lol just from pure novelty here.

I understand what you were trying to say haha. Yeah, this story is my attempt at making a realistic si, since i think most of them are not. I wont read HPMOR ever, haha, no worries. If i tried something once and didnt like it i dont repeat it

At this point, I'd rather you not read HPMOR. This fic is way too unique and well written, and I feel would be harmed rather than inspired. Some fics and authors aren't like that, and are made better by everyone reading each other's fics, e.g. all the Raildex fics on SB that popped up the past few years. Whereas some are more original fiction feeling, like yours, and are made better by any previous reads happening in the past. HPMOR is a weird one. It's clear the author read *tons* of HP fanfic before writing it, and it's a clear reaction to it. So on one hand, it feels very tropy, because it yoinks quite a many things. But the author also did something to it that I don't know how to describe. Besides how it's a deconstruction of those tropes. It's one of the few HP fanfics that don't feel like HP fanfic. (I'd include this one to some extent too. Perhaps closer to HP fanfic in some ways, but more original feeling in others.) Some of it is the prose, some of it is underlying world building, and some is general vibe. HPMOR's thing was that it took one specific idea of hyper intelligence and applied it to Voldemort, and through Voldemort, to Harry. In theory, that's the underlying difference. You have a hyper intelligent psychopath who doesn't know what to do with his time, and then you have that psychpathic hyper intelligence applied to a baby that doesn't have psychopathy. Lots of tropy HP bits there alone with horcruxes and a "dark side". The world building can look incredibly HP like in a super strange way. In fact, it gets the vibe just right for many new things, like a type of soda where not long after you drink it, something happens that causes you to spit take. But a lot of these end being very original, somehow, but look pretty close in line. Vs normal fanfics that take and extend without thinking or feeling original at all. Deep underlying that is picking explanations for world building that is left unclear in HP itself, but what's picked is stuff that never would've been the case. Definitely serves the story though. So HPMOR serves a very different purpose to me than most HP fanfic or this fic. To me, it's about learning about what it means to be good, and picking it deliberately. Not just arbitrarily, not automatically. And realizing there are ways to be good that people don't realize they should be doing. It scratches a certain philosophy itch for me. This story... You have quite a few things. You inserted a Philosophy PhD if I remember correctly? So we get this hard worker that also scratches this reincarnation philosophy itch. Which I don't see in most SIs. I get to see HP stuff in a way I'm not bored of since it doesn't feel same-y. It's something new. We get some really nice and sweet friendships. And we get some fun ways of learning and doing magic. And some mystery. Plus a Voldie who also isn't the same dumbass. This isn't the standard SI powerwank. It's not the standard non-HP boy who lived AU. It's not the standard politics or Slytherin AU. But I keep bringing up HPMOR due to the intelligent Harrys and intelligent Voldies. Where both Harrys like space and have similar thoughts of not-sure-but-maybe-they-should on integration and are both hard workers learning magic. With both thinking about philosophy. It's nice to have something scratch that itch. Even better that this is completely uninfluenced by it. Idk what the point of this was. I like this fic. Don't bother reading HPMOR until this fic is done.

I mean honestly, with magic, legit why not just go to another planet. Literally what is stopping u. Never read HPMOR, I think i tried but didn't like it. I write SI because then I can justifiably write a smart ass 11 year old. There are no actual smart 11 year olds, period.

Omg so much this, What the fuck is the point of being a wizard if you literally never do anything silly. come out of the water, give a muggle a diamon, tell them, "No one will ever believe you," disappear. Fake UFO landings, transform an annoying child's chocolate into broccoli. Have FUNNN

This was gold! Loved it.

What's the point of living several hundred years as a wizard, if not to eventually create a silly Magnum Opus? Seize the day! Boil away an ocean and make a bitchin' potion. Conquer and transfigure a new planet before exclusively populating it with veela! Carve open a path between worlds through reality itself in your search for a paradise populated by nymphs, dryads and redheads! Remember that Hogwarts has (quite a few) paintings of wizards doing really stupid things. Become a legend. Make sure your descendants are forced to open an actual museum just to keep up with your shenanigans. "This is the Hall of Metaphorical Dick-Measuring Contests. Over yonder is the Hall of Literal Dick-Measuring Contests. Legend tells us that MC both won the allegiance of the Giants and excavated Grand Phallus Canyon on the same day, in the same event." "Now the 2nd floor begins with the hallowed Hall of Poon..."

I love how what he's saying isn't 100% stupid. Like sure, maybe a dumb kid would say it, but also an incredibly ambitious smart person would, too. It's like that iq bell curve meme lol. It's also very interesting to see a Quirrelmort that seems smart but not ridiculous like HPMOR. Very fun to see them head to head. I do think Voldie is having fun, too, even if he's not getting the result he wants. Unclear if he sees to the full extent on how he's being messed with. Harder to tell the further the conversation goes -- but he does get more annoyed.
