Wasn't fleur, but her cousin, just picked a too similar last name apparently

What i don't understand is why Fleur won the tournament. She should be as old as Harry and while she may have gotten private tutoring earlier than him she cannont be older than 14 or 15, definitely not Grindelwald material. Should you write her as older like 16 or 17, she can not be a champion in the triwizard tournament later on.

It was mostly aimed at the swiss haha. But, I'll never forgive the Kümmelbrot ;)

"German-speaking countries had one thing in common, and that was that their food was trash." As an Austrian, I take personal affront to that. ;)

That's very good advice, that's what I'm actually trying to do. Get Harry to reach the max fundamentals of duelling and then when he notices the diminishing returns exploring deeper magics and putting them in his fighting style

It was an enjoyable chapter and the lose was expected. For the sake of realism I'd be careful with the use of speed and reactions as an explanation of higher competitors, this because reaction speed, doesn't really improve that much (amongst humans) anyway. E.g. my Cousin is 8 and he's already hitting fastballs of 65mph with a reasonable batting average, a 12 year old with easily be in the 70's to 80's, whilst the professional adults only deal with 95mph. My point is that that's only an improvement of 50% reaction/speed, from 8 years old to full grown adult. Now I know wizards are different but unless they don't stick to biological improvement like all other species, then the ability to go from .4sec to less than .1 would be so insane. I'd have much rather the difference between high level competitors was about the power, control and knowledge of the magic they use, ie, sending a dozen spells in 1.2sec against someone who will use a stone tentacle that you can't un transfigure or destroy becuase they have more control of their magic, a better understanding of it and the ability to pump more magic into it as it tanks the dozen spell and smashes you into the ground. I could easily envision that amongst high level competitors, that there are two routes to win, either you go as many spells as fast a possible (Flitwick) or spells that conjure/create golems or elemental attacks etc with the second of the two options being far more difficult but also far more powerful with a hugely raised skill cap (Tom, Albus, Gellert) I think Harry needs to realise that if he only does what Flitwick does, then he'll only be one competitor amongst many challenging for the top spot. But if he wants to stand head and shoulders above, then down the route of a Titan he must go, (as you mentioned Gellert did this by his 15? 16? Birthday) I hope that Harry keeps up his training but kinda goes down the route I like to call the Titan of magic route, where he aims to use magic to control the world around him (reality manipulation) rather than launch single shot spells or general transfiguration.

Also, don't be too hard on English food either. :D I mean, I'm definitely no expert and what I had over there was usually a bit bland. And the one minor case of food poisoning was probably just a coincidence... Where was I? Ah, yes. For the most part, it was quite palatable.

Now I'm wondering which German dishes Harry had to suffer through to come to that conclusion. ^^ I mean, we have a lot of so called 'regional specialties' that even I find disgusting. But there is lot's of good food to find in Germany, Austria, and Switzerland, too. But it's admittedly a mixed bag. And definitely no French or Italian. Where was Harry from in his previous life? If it was mentioned so far, I forgot.

If you're still considering changing 'Delafleur' to something else to avoid mix-ups with 'Fleur Delacour', how about 'Dubois'?

bor902

Ah that sucks, but I agree, they can't all be bangers, and this one wasn't really, kind of building up to next year, so maybe I didn't add the necessary ompf this time

If Harry can do that with two years of formal magical training he'll be a monster soon enough.

Title actually made me think he'd win lol. Good bait. And I think the fight was good and realistic. It made sense for Harry to lose. I do feel a bit disappointed in the end of the chapter, how it just glossed over anything with Fleur. Like you were writing an outline and didn't expand, or just felt like writing the end instead of actually having it be a scene. So between this and the other chapter, a bit sad that anything there got a bit botched, writing wise. I mean, it's not the worst and it can be very good to learn to be concise as a writing. I know next to zero authors that are good at that. But the way you handled stuff with Fleur felt off. But yeah, I did enjoy the duel and dueling stuff and this mini arc. Perhaps a bit of expected a bit more, but eh. I don't know I should've. It only makes sense for it to be a mini arc, as all summers have been.
