In your mind... what makes a cosplayer famous?
-The amount of likes that have (regardless of the content), and what number is that?? But If likes = famous cosplayer, what if the likes are from porn? Does that mean she is a famous cosplayer?
-The number of costumes?
-Being in the public eye, either on a show or ambassador for a brand or just guesting a lot (regardless if they have a line)
-Just the sheer amount of time in the Hobby?
- The quality of the costumes
- someone that makes “a living**” doing it.
The easiest answer is ALL THE ABOVE. Please do not say that, keep it to 1-3 things. While I can think of a few cosplayers, it is uncommon that cosplayer is a high number of likes, makes their own stuff with a high quality.
And also, with that... mI guess what makes a cosplayer? Do you think there is a difference between saying you Cosplay vs you are a cosplayer.
For instance Kim Kardashian’s has cosplayed.. does that make her a cosplayer? I often think.. I love to cook as a hobby and I’m decent, but I’m not a chef nor would I call myself one because it would be disingenuous to those chefs who have studied and learned their craft.

I think it starts with the quality of the cosplay, cause I have seen some really lackluster stuff and some incredible things. Then there is the attitude of the person wearing it, that has helped bring up some stuff. Lastly ignoring the haters :) <3

If a person went around hitting world leaders with a stuffed animal while in different cosplays, they’d be the most famous cosplayer in the world. Probably under arrest, but *famous* no matter how good or bad their cosplay is. Being famous for a hobby or profession doesn’t equate to being best at it or dedicated to it. I think first, you would have to self-identify as a cosplayer. Secondly, you would have to be identified by others as such. And thirdly, your work would have to connect in some way overwhelmingly with the community in order for you to be considered “famous”. I think if you were asking who are “important cosplayers” or the “best cosplayers” it would be a wholly different answer.
