The emperor rose from the throne, staggered slightly, and descended the steps to pat Prinz on the shoulder, commending his achievements.
"Your Majesty, all of this is thanks to Third Prince Yuno. He achieved the greatest merit by breaking through Streve’s gate a feat no imperial master had ever accomplished. Please take this into consideration."
"No, Your Majesty. I merely followed Brother Prinz’s command."
Despite being half-brothers, Prinz and Yuno always cared for each other, and the emperor looked at them with satisfaction.
"Very well! I name the Crown Prince and Third Prince as the top contributors of this campaign. I appoint the Crown Prince as Honorary Chairman, granting him the authority to preside over the State Council in my stead."
The courtiers in the throne room sighed, realizing the emperor had now officially recognized the Crown Prince as his full successor, but Prinz gave a wry smile.
It was obvious the emperor intended to dump the State Council duties on him and spend his final years playing with his concubines. But Prinz had no choice but to accept.
"It’s a position I am not yet worthy of, but if entrusted to me, I will do my utmost."
Meanwhile, Second Prince Heinrich, watching from the corner, bit his lip. He listened to a whisper from a retainer:
'Your Highness, perhaps we should move up the plan…'
'Not yet… Just wait a little longer. We proceed as planned. There’s still time.'
'Understood, Your Highness.'
Having composed himself, Heinrich walked into the center of the throne room, and as the emperor was considering what reward to give Yuno, Heinrich made a suggestion.
"Your Majesty! How about granting Third Prince, who achieved such great merit, his own fief? Both Viscount Nikana and Baron Teshida, who were responsible for guarding the center of the Monster Mountains, have requested retirement due to age and lack of heirs. Why not combine their lands and grant Third Prince a countship?"
"Hmm… There hasn’t been much monster activity lately, so it shouldn’t be dangerous. I think it’s a fitting reward for a prince to hold a countship, but we should hear the prince’s thoughts. Third Prince, what do you think?"
"That is exactly the reward I desire, Your Majesty! Please entrust it to me!"
Yuno had always dreamed of having his own fief since childhood. He didn’t know what his second brother was plotting, but since it was what he wanted, he welcomed it enthusiastically.
"No! How can you send a child who just returned from war to such a dangerous place? I cannot allow Third Prince to be assigned to such a remote region!"
But the empress, who had been quietly listening, suddenly stood up and objected, so the emperor calmed her down.
"We’ll discuss this again at tomorrow’s State Council… Next, rewards for the 1st, 4th, and 5th Corps commanders. Each is named a second-class meritorious subject, and the 1st and 4th Corps commanders’ baron titles can now be inherited by their sons. The 5th Corps commander is raised to baron as well."
The awards continued, and since it had been a long time since a victorious war, many received honors.
"This evening, there will be a banquet to celebrate our victory. I hope many will attend. Secretary, see that the banquet is well prepared."
"Yes, Your Majesty. I’ll take care of everything, so please don’t worry."
With those words, the emperor left the throne room, and Yuria rose from the throne and descended.
With a sharp gaze, she walked toward her son. The nobles who had come to congratulate the Crown Prince and Third Prince shrank back at the empress’s intimidating presence and made way.
"Crown Prince, could you excuse us for a moment?"
"Haha… Of course, Your Majesty. Everyone, let’s go have a drink in my palace before the real banquet begins. I’ll tell you all about the valor of our imperial army against the Teseito forces. Haha."
The quick-witted Crown Prince led the nobles out.
When the nobles had left and Yuria approached, Yuno braced himself, expecting her signature back slap.
‘Ugh!! Am I going to get hit for declaring independence? Her palm still hurts!’
But instead, Yuria pulled Yuno into a tight embrace and began to cry.
"Sob… my son. Are you hurt anywhere? Do you know how worried I was? I heard you broke through the gate at the front under a hail of arrows my heart nearly stopped. Sob…"
Yuno, surprised by the tears soaking his chest, gently pushed Yuria away and looked at her face. Her beautiful features were a mess, her large eyes brimming with tears that fell down her cheeks.
"Mom… don’t worry. You know how strong I am. Arrows don’t bother me at all."
"Still, you never know… Sob… And now you’re talking about heading to another dangerous place as soon as you’re back. How could I not be upset? Sob…"
Even as she cried, Yuria smacked Yuno’s back hard.
Maybe it was motherly love, but her palm left a real sting on Yuno’s back.
"Ow!! Mom!! That really hurts!! Ugh!!"
"If you can’t even handle your mother’s palm, how can you talk about going to the Monster Mountains! No, I can’t allow it!"
As Yuria continued to object, Yuno checked to make sure no one was around and shared a plan he’d had for a long time.
"Mom… then, if you’re okay with it…"
"Hmm?"
As Yuno looked at her and tried to speak, Yuria met his gaze.
"Would you come live with me in my fief? It’s always been my dream to live together with you, somewhere no one can bother us."
Hearing her son’s words, which sounded almost like a proposal, Yuria’s heart pounded.
Feeling the strong body of her now-adult son in her arms, she realized just how much he’d grown.
When Yuria didn’t answer, Yuno hugged her tightly and whispered again in her ear.
"If you’re not attached to life in the palace… I want to live with you in my fief. That’s always been my wish, Mom."
As Yuno hugged her tightly, Yuria’s face turned bright red. His strong arms wrapped around her slender waist, and she felt his large member pressing against her belly.
Feeling the shape of his now-erect member against her mound, Yuria’s womb trembled, turning her from a mother back into a woman.
‘He wants me… My grown son wants me as his woman… What should I do? Just thinking about that huge thing inside me… ah…’
Yuria, flustered and blushing, could only look at Yuno. Yuno spoke again.
"Mom, if you, Isabella, Marie, Eliza, and even Master all lived together as a family, wouldn’t that be wonderful?"
At those words, Yuria’s body quickly cooled. She realized Yuno wasn’t proposing to her as a woman, but simply wanted the whole family to live together.
"Ugh! I misunderstood, didn’t I? You say things weirdly and make your mother…"
"Huh? What did I say to make you misunderstand…"
"Quiet! Just accept it if your mother says so!"
Yuria smacked Yuno’s back again, then fanned her flushed face to hide her embarrassment.
Not knowing why he’d been hit, Yuno asked again.
"Mom, can’t we just live together? When Brother becomes emperor, you won’t want to stay in the palace as Empress Dowager, right?"
"Yuno! Don’t talk about such dangerous things!"
"I only said it because I can sense there’s no one around. Besides, Father is getting old…"
Yuria sighed. What mother wouldn’t want to live with her beloved son, even in a rough place? But as empress, it was nearly impossible for her to leave the palace at will.
"Sigh… Let me think about it until tonight… I need to come up with a reason to tell His Majesty…"
"Really? Wow~ Thank you, Mom!!"
Yuno showered Yuria’s cheek with kisses.
"Geez, you’re all grown up and still kissing your mother… I haven’t agreed yet, so don’t get too excited!!"
"Hehehe, yes Mom~"
With that, Yuno left Yuria and returned to his palace, where Isabella, Marie, Eliza, and Catherine were waiting.
Of course, he was also scolded for ignoring them earlier.
After being thoroughly scolded, Yuno told them stories from the battlefield, and as the sun set, he changed clothes and headed to the banquet hall with them.
