The Worsening War Situation
Yuno steadily took control of the western part of Count Streve’s domain. Most of the minor lords surrendered without much resistance, but there were territories like Baron Kreis’s that resisted to the end, so it wasn’t all smooth sailing.
While reviewing the tactical map and holding a meeting with his officers, Yuno was considering the suggestion of a centurion: now that the western part of Streve’s territory was pacified, they could scatter two thousand-man units as patrols and join the 1st Army, which was struggling at Streve Fortress.
Just then, a report came in that the corps headquarters had received a magical communication, and Yuno’s face lit up.
“Is it from Brother Prinz?”
“Ah… no, it’s from 11th Corps Commander Prince Kent Windrage.”
Yuno was a bit disappointed it wasn’t the message he’d hoped for, but keeping close communication and coordinating with the 11th Corps was also important, so he took the call.
“Uncle? Did you finish off Baron Carnet’s territory like you said yesterday?”
“Haha, Your Highness! Who do you think I am? The enemy was utterly destroyed before our 11th Corps. I’ve collected the heads of all those treacherous Teseito lords I’ll show you later! Hahaha!”
Perhaps because the 5,000 Windrage troops were so elite, Kent seemed to be commanding the 11th Corps well, contrary to Yuno’s worries. Unlike Yuno, Kent allowed a day of looting in every conquered territory, so his advance was slower, but since it was done by custom, Yuno couldn’t blame him.
“Haha… That’s fine. I appreciate the thought. So, is everything quiet today? If so, we’ll form reconnaissance units, secure the western front, prepare signal fires, and then join the 1st Army. How about the 11th Corps does the same?”
“Yes, understood. But we still have one more territory to finish up, so we’ll handle that and then follow your orders, Your Highness.”
“Alright, Uncle. Once again, if enemy reinforcements appear or anything unexpected happens, you must report to me or the Crown Prince.”
“Yes, don’t worry. And is it true that some audacious fools tried to harm Your Highness in the 10th Corps?”
At Kent’s words, Yuno gave a wry smile.
“Yes, it’s true. But I personally executed all the rebels, and tore the ringleader limb from limb, so there’s nothing to worry about.”
“Those insolent bastards!! Do they take Your Highness and the Windrage family for fools?! Once the war is over, I’ll take the 11th Corps and punish their families myself!!”
“That won’t be necessary. Fortunately, they weren’t conspiring with the enemy or plotting real treason it seems it was just personal greed, so it’s best to leave it at that.”
“Hmph~ Your Highness is too soft! Targeting a royal’s life is treason they should be wiped out to the third generation!! Your Highness? Your Highness?”
“Huh? What’s wrong with this magic…”
Whether out of concern for his nephew or anger at the slight to the Windrage family, Kent was furious about the incident. Yuno didn’t dislike his uncle for this, but it was a hassle, so he pretended there was a communication error and took his hand off the crystal ball.
The call ended immediately, and Yuno stood up. At any rate, his uncle’s old wild ways seemed to have mellowed, so Yuno figured there wouldn’t be any trouble and returned to the meeting tent.
Click.
“Ugh… Hey, communications officer! What’s with the line? I was giving the prince important advice and the call dropped! Are you not doing your job?”
“I… I didn’t disconnect it, it was on the other end…”
“Yeah, yeah, always making excuses, just like people who can’t do their jobs.”
‘Then why doesn’t he use the crystal ball himself… All he has to do is put his hand on it, but he insists on making me connect it for him just for show…’
Leaving the aggrieved mage behind, Kent returned to his tent, licking his lips as he thought about the taste of the noblewoman he’d kidnapped from the last conquered territory.
“Lieutenant! Go to the prisoner camp and bring that woman!”
“…Which woman do you mean…?”
“Oh, obviously I mean Baroness Carnet! I have some deep interrogation to do, so bring her quickly.”
“Yes, understood.”
The lieutenant, cursing Kent in his heart, went to the prisoner camp and brought the tear-stained Baroness Carnet to Kent’s tent.
“Does the Balkan Imperial Army have no honor? Rather than humiliating me, just kill me like you did my husband!”
“…I’m sorry, madam. As a mere lieutenant, I can’t disobey the corps commander’s orders.”
“Sob…”
In the end, Baroness Carnet was brought into Kent’s tent, and the sounds of crying and sex soon echoed from within.
“Sigh… I should just retire when I get home… This is disgusting…”
As the lieutenant left the commander’s tent and headed toward his own, a messenger came running at top speed to report.
“Urgent news! Recon units report an enemy fleet has appeared on the southern Teseito coast. Cavalry have disembarked and are advancing north rapidly estimated at 6,000! Their banner appears to be the royal guard cavalry! Current location: Viscount Zale’s territory!”
As soon as he heard the report, the lieutenant ran to Kent’s tent, skipping any formality, and burst in.
“Commander!! The enemy has appeared!! Six thousand Teseito royal guard cavalry have landed on the southern coast and are advancing north they’ve reached Viscount Zale’s territory! They’re less than 150 km from us!!”
“Don’t you have any manners?! The corps commander is interrogating a prisoner right now!”
Kent, who was thrusting into Baroness Carnet, shouted in embarrassment, but his lieutenant ignored him and stuck to protocol.
“This isn’t the time! At 150 km, cavalry could reach us in less than a day! You must report to headquarters and request reinforcements or join forces immediately!!”
“Oh, come now! Didn’t you say it was only 6,000? Our 11th Corps can handle that! In fact, this is great. I finally have a chance to prove myself. I was getting bored of these petty conquests anyway… hehehe.”
Kent’s eyes shone as he squeezed the baroness’s breast and sucked her nipple. She screamed in pain, but Kent ignored her and resumed his thrusts, giving orders to his lieutenant.
“Lieutenant! No reporting to higher command. Go prepare the men for anti-cavalry battle! I’ll finish up here and be out soon. Hehehe.”
Unable to disobey, the lieutenant left the tent to carry out the order, even though he thought it was a bad idea.
“Not squeezing enough! Insolent wench! Do you know who you’re with? Squeeze harder! Hahaha!”
Shaking his head at his commander’s voice as he left, the lieutenant wondered how he’d survive this battle.
Boom!!
The next morning, Yuno received a report that nearly made him faint as soon as he woke up.
“W-what did you say? The 11th Corps was annihilated? There was no report of enemy presence! What about the corps commander? What happened to my uncle?”
“Well… as soon as the enemy cavalry broke through the formation, the corps commander fled…”
“What the hell!! Fleeing in the face of the enemy? The corps commander? Is that even possible?”
“It’s the truth. The 11th Corps, led by the Windrage troops, formed an anti-cavalry formation and desperately held off the first charge, but when enemy cavalry broke through the flank and reached headquarters, there are multiple reports that the corps commander fled.”
“So where did the fleeing corps commander go?”
“There’s no further news about him. For now, our units are gathering the survivors, so please give additional orders.”
Yuno, who had felt at ease about his uncle just the day before, was stunned by this betrayal.
“Damn it!! The 10th Corps will move south to the southern front…”
“Urgent news! Reinforcements are being gathered from three marquisates in central Teseito and are heading toward us! They’re expected to arrive in about two weeks!”
With news that enemies were coming from the west as well, Yuno’s headache worsened. No matter how much he thought, his lack of strategic ability left him with no solution, so he decided to act on instinct.
“If we’re going to die anyway, might as well go for broke!! The 10th Corps will join the 1st Army and capture Streve before enemy reinforcements arrive!!”
“Uh… but how can we take Streve, when the Crown Prince has been besieging it for nearly a month…”
“We’ll figure it out when we get there! Tell my brother the 10th Corps is heading for Streve!”
The centurions were stunned by Yuno’s reckless decision, but since they had no better ideas, they decided to follow their corps commander and expeditionary army vice-commander.
