DOOM: THE DIVISIVE THIRD ONE

The inevitable "Dark Ages is bad because X" or "Dark Ages is good because Y" or "this is an affront to every Doom fan because Z." Fuck all that! Sounds like math. If I wanted to participate in the online shit-slinging I'd go back to Twitter. Unless the shit-slinging is directed at Randy Pitchford, in which case it is always justifiable because that man can't stop saying dumb, out-of-touch greasy rich asshole stuff.
Long story short: Everyone is going to argue for years about the merits of each game in this new trilogy and I'm going to ignore all of it.
I enjoyed most of Dark Ages and I'll admit that it doesn't have the same kick as the last two. It's not bad or a disaster, like if they added Ewoks. The game seems like an attempt to compromise two different styles of gameplay - Doom 2016's more free and easy demon-blasting vs. Eternal's tighter and more challenging flow. Before the game even released, other people with press keys were expressing wildly varying opinions about the combat. I dunno, I was having fun, except the two disposable turret sections and the turret sections on the back of a dragon. And the stomach acid.
Really, the game is probably long enough to not need to pad it out with turret sections.

P.S. Fuck shadowplay for dropping gameplay frames. This thing ran perfectly while I was playing. In 1440, not 4k, because my graphics card isn't actually as good as the intro would lead you to believe.

I've avoided watching the...other content creator I watch...'s videos about this, ostensibly until I finished my first playthrough, but at the rate I'm going I'm not going to finish any time soon so the new deadline became "not watching until Civvie puts his out to compare takes". So, guess I now have my plans for tomorrow figured out.

Thank for the tip about always sprint and effects off. Tried sprint on but didn't know about the effects and it just annoyed me. Stopped before spoilers as Im yet to finish, but sure the rest is great as per usual.

I haven’t tried Steam’s recording. For all of Shadowplay’s faults it usually does what I need it to unless the game is especially jank/demanding/poorly optimized

Civvie you should drop shadowplay and use steam's built in recording feature. Works the same, but is supposed to be much more stable

The 1080ti is a pretty ancient card by now. My 2070 super is doing fine with Doom: TDA, with reasonable settings, and still looks great. I did upgrade my CPU recently though.

I'm on my second playthrough. My first, I couldn't really get into it, but now I've increased the speed to 120% and increased projectile speeds, it feels more aggressive and I am having more fun with it. What do you think of the music, though? I for one find it really rather middling. Not bad, so much, as just perfunctory and predictable. id really fucked up with burning their bridges with Mick Gordon. Even the Eternal DLC was underwhelming with the music.

I'm still pissed they made this RTX required. Unless I maxed out the settings to an absurd point with games like the Resident Evil remakes, my 1080Ti can handle anything with ease. I'm going to watch this and tell myself that giving the money to the DoSC is a better financial decision than going through bankruptcy.

i haven't play the game yet but my two honest god hopes after seeing this is that quake or hexon get this kind of love next and the next era of boomer shooter follow both enteral and dark ages path.

Was expecting you to cover this, and even though you didn't make a video covering The Ancient Gods that's perfectly fine since much like with Doom 3 Resurrection of Evil it's just more of Doom Eternal but more difficult. Screw the turret sections though. This is a DOOM game!

It's a damn good game, they wanted to dive deeper into the lore. Casual players were turned off of Eternal a lot because of the skill that's not required but heavily recommended. So they tried to please both the hardcore & casual. I'd say they succeeded. I wouldn't want Eternal 2.0, Doom fans are spoiled, we don't have a single mediocre game let alone a bad one. Doom is treated like the royalty that it earned.

New DOOM is just different, it's cool that they didn't go for a copy of 2016 or Eternal but tried new ideas. The combat feels heavier, but in a good way - instead of being Sonic the Hedgehog but with guns and on crack, it feels like a tank with nuclear weapons. As long as I can chainsaw demons, I'm happy, is what i'm trying to say (I think). Also, HELL YEAH, NEW CIVVIE VID JUST DROPPED
