Kinda frustrating with no announcement about anything. No one cares if we don't get the chapters because of IRL issues. If you need to take a break, just say so, but we should be getting some kind of communication at this point. We are multiple chapters behind where we are supposed to be now.

Derek Walker

It was supposed to be this week… but if he was traveling yesterday to get back home, he was probably weather stranded and hence the delay…

BHD

Hi Kyfe. Quick Q from your comment late last week. Is the return to regular this week or starting in January?

Guilherme Paschoaletto

BigFun has a point, I usually see Kyfe responding these things on comments, and I think a proper post would make things much clearer. In this case specifically, the winter storm in the US is hard, so I do understand he's in a rough spot.

BigFun

Last month hit 50 chapters ahead of the RR postings, then slowed down to match the RR posing rate. Then the RR posting rate increased and the posting rate here increased to match to maintain that 50 chapter lead. No gripes there. In fact that posting rate with this quality of both story and actual writing is excellent. Lots of authors took time off over Christmas and New Years, most of them made a post that said they were doing that. The only reason the lack of posts currently bothers me is there was no announcement of a break or change which left the expectation of 5 chapters per week intact. Kyfe, I like the story a lot. I don't like the breaks in posting without any info about what or why until days later. Please make a post when you won't be posting chapters for a while like you did when your internet was dead. Even just a bare "IRL conflict, chapter delayed" post would be nice, if you can say "IRL conflict, chapters delayed *duration*" that would help manage expectations better and give a happier audience.

Derek Walker

If we get all our chapters this week, that’s an average of 4 chapters a week for the month, which is more than most of the Patreons I subscribe too, and last month had the announced “break” of two weeks of 3 chapters each so, I’m not sure what the issue there was.

E

Don’t really think I got my moneys worth the past two months fr

Nick Swanson

Thanks for the heads up and happy holidays to you and yours!

Kyfe

I'm currently on the road. Everything is taking longer because of the weather. We will be returning to the regular schedule next week, and I'll get back up to 50 chapters ahead as soon as possible

Derek Walker

I was asking him questions in the comment section of Royal road on Thursday, so he’s out there, somewheres lol

Steven

We might have to send a rescue squad to find kyfe

Ok thanks ! I'll check again tomorrow.

Derek Walker

No rush, especially since it’s Christmas weekend now, but when can we expect the chapter to pick up again?

Derek Walker

Yes, it was offscreen in the reunion chaired

I have just caught up to this chapter and something is bothering me. Has he talked to his parents about how he found himself a gazillion km away ? (Maybe I missed a chapter when I binged read ?)

BigFun

freakin' lasers.... lol

Derek Walker

In some ways we have this already. Mana weapon and mana shield already use mana in ways like this. For most people, I think they begin these skills using pure or unaspected mana. However you can infuse these with affinities. So reivyn has infused his mana shield before with eternity affinity, which made his mana shield much stronger than a normal one. So he could infuse mana weapon with the light affinity to approximate what you are describing

TheeGreenBean

Traellium

Sorta assumed you could get hard light depending on how you weave the light element. Either that or you have to supplement another affinity to give substance. Refix has the ethereal blades, but I'm not 100% sure If they are light constructs. or something else. But yea the main reason I brought it up is that hard light constructs have a lot of versatility of them. Combined with Reyvin's skills. He could freely shape the construct into Armour, spear, sword, daggers etc. Probably even reinforce his mana shield. Basically what Refix does but more flexibility.

Guilherme Paschoaletto

Something about Light and healing was said in one of the chapters with the Paladin, but I honestly don't remember anything about it lol Something on the lines of "direct magic healing is less eficient" and "requires specific Class Skills". I doubt hard light would be possible, but nothing stops you from creating a solid rock wall hidden/disguised by a light pane :D the best kind of illusion lmao

Derek Walker

I don't know about hard light, but I imagine heal/restoring would be a tier 4 affinity, though the specific version could be tied to light. So an example a step down would be tier 2 ice and tier 3 cold. Another example, it was briefly mentioned Entropy is a tier 4 affinity related to order.

Traellium

I have a question related to his affinities. An example being light, is there advanced applications of it like Hard light constructs or healing/restoring order?

Derek Walker

You never know what Santa will bring this year lol. Maybe like 10 chapters

Zebrababies

I'm assuming we won't be getting 5 chapters this week? lol

Kyfe

It hasn't come up, but it's been in place in my notes from the very beginning. It's not really a spoiler. For Lifestyle Classers, they can go to the church and reverse a forced Class change, but they have to re-Level from the beginning and lose all the benefits, so they can't Level up to 60 (as this would apply to Tier 2 conscripts), reverse it, then Level up to 60 again with the Stats retained. They'd still have their General Skill Levels, but it would mostly not matter for Lifestyle Classers.

marconjecture

Level 1s don't really contribute to the economy. Hence the general conscription in Reivyn's first town. While all conscripts learned fighting skills, most returned to other classes. But having a few focused fighting and survival skills could be live saving in an invasion. True, it would have an effect on class levels in life style classes over the life of those people, as they would have gained other skills in that time.

TheeGreenBean

What you’re suggesting would crash the economy. You can’t conscript literally everyone available just from chance that they might be invaded. They’re already starting up an army program focused on dealing with humans. Without credible knowledge that they’ll be invaded soon you can’t just have the economy stopped to turn everyone available into a soldier. What happens when your entire young population is having to be paid by government, don’t produce their own goods, and aren’t actually fighting anyone for a few years is that the country goes bankrupt. And then what if they don’t get invaded? We don’t know what are the purposes of the invasions nor whether they’ll continue to invade other nations, and neither do the people in charge of the empire.

Froyo Baggins

Yeah, I'll be satisfied as long as the results aren't too great.

SwiftFate

Would love some more in depth world lore soon! Feels like we are getting to the point in the story where Reivyn isn't just a minor player living a casual life in a low tier village/barony anymore. He's interacting with Tier 4 empire royalty and practically training their army after all hahaha.

Greg Szarko

Great chapter

Kyfe

It's not exactly how you say. I haven't revealed all the information, yet.

Kyfe

Life Experience, when not accompanied by the word "Calculation" (so 90% of the time people talk about it) is referring to the literal life experience people gain that the System evaluates to unlock Classes.

Ace McGee

When was the last time we saw the life experience summary? It is referenced often, but I don't think we have seen how much reivyn is actually getting each month.

SwiftFate

Is it just me or does it seem like the 'world' having a system in place prior to all this that prevented most human-human wars/killings (the whole sin/karma effect thing) was some kind of ploy or magic used by the Abyss or something to weaken them? I mean really, an entire population with an aversion to killing or warring up until now, only really ever fighting beasts and monsters? Seems to me like that have been neutered. It's a bit pathetic really that even the highest tiered empires have no clue how to actually fight wars, let alone win them..Here we are with the MC, practically still just a kid, but lucky enough to be powerful and have some subtle 'experiences' that place him in a position to actually teach this shit.. But until now, they knew jack shit. Idk, I always thought it was the authors way of making this story a bit more 'pure' and 'good' in the sense that there were less killings or abuses or power, but it bugged me. Conflict is human nature.. And it feels like that has been stripped from them by the 'system' itself. But it doesn't seem natural. A system focused around getting stronger and increasing levels? Something is wrng here. They live in a world where Tier 7, 8 and 9 regions exist, but the highest tier people are seemingly 6? Nah these empires/kingdoms are 'supposed' to battle each other from time to time. Something or someone has messed with the system I reckon and over the last few millenium or something the population has just adjusted to the status-quo. War is necessary for advancement. Perhaps this 'invading force' is simply one of the few that has figured that out? I'm surprised Reivyn hasn't really questioned it much until now.. Even he must see the potential for levels, advancements and overall boosts in power so many people could get from fighting in a proper human vs human war. As dark as that sounds, it's much more efficient that casually delving dungeons.. And there are only so many of those.

Luciaron

Isn’t the link haired villain princess about to come and wreck all his plans

Maakolo

They dont know risk level, they just have speculation.

Maakolo

The school isnt a school. Its essentially a stripped down dojo where people just do what it takes to acquire skills.

marconjecture

If the 4th tier empire took the invasion risk properly seriously, they would have started a combat class mobilisation across their whole empire. Make all eligible young adults in the tier 1 and 2 empires with their first class into peasant levies. Do something similar with people in the tier 3 and 4 regions. Start moving all somewhat suitable people into the next higher tier regions. Get as many people as possible skills for wilderness survival to prepare for an eventual evacuation of population centers during an invasion. Because, even and especially if the invasion doesn't happen within a few years, it has become obvious that 4th tier empires are in fact vulnerable. But it is perfectly understandable, why no one even thinks in those terms, when this situation was completely incomprehensible, previously. Not to even mention that all current local, regional and empire-wide powers would feel threatened and try to sabotage every step.

Froyo Baggins

I don't like that he's biting off so much with the school. The story is already a power fantasy with competence at everything, but not so much that it's just boring as hell. Having things go his way there without his direct involvement but just some vague direction from afar seems like it will go too far in the other direction.
