Given we have a good bit of this book left, I’m assuming that Kimmy’s plan to “protect” Hyun and hide their relationship is going to backfire spectacularly on her. It kind of has to, right? In real life, it doesn’t always, but in this particular story I can’t see her being able to keep it from Josh. It wouldn’t surprise me if Hyun herself was the one to out it, especially if Kimmy tries to pull away from her. But I mostly agree that Kimmy has been chastened by the events of the weekend. While she’s still lying and manipulating, she also does understand that she allowed herself to get corrupted by the bullies and it impacted how she viewed and treated Josh. I remember how she talked about Josh in the middle chapters, she oozed condescension toward him for a lot of it. She talked about having him go with Devlin to the Jays game (a pivotal moment in Josh’s awful awakening) as being “good” for him, that he needed to be “challenged,” or words to that effect. Or how she talked about Josh in the Caymans, or when she recorded that first audio with Devlin in the apartment (there are now at least 3 different recordings/videos she’s made “for” Josh), or other times as well when she allowed herself to participate in talking down about Josh with Devlin. He truly had her buying his line of thinking about Josh in those middle books. She realizes it now even if it may be too late.
