“You want to go again and you don’t want any roleplaying.”

“What do you mean?”
“What do I mean? You’re roleplaying, not roleplaying.”

She shook her head like she was disappointed in him. “Just when I think you get me.”
He laughed and took a drink, then held the beer bottle between his tanned knees, water splashing up with the waves, his fingers playing with the bottle’s label. “I get you, Chey.” Then he looked at her and smiled, his eyes narrowed by the intense sunlight, his blond hair gone dark with seawater but the sun drying some bright gold twists. “I’m down for it. Tell me what you want.”
“Carla and Byron were just Carla and Byron.”
“Just friends.”
“Right. Human beings, not characters.”
Cody nodded. “It’s hot.”

“That’s what you have to figure out.”

In a general sense, Cody isn't wrong, Chey does need to be herself, but she also needs to find herself. The fact is, if being herself means being the same selfish and awful person from books 1 & 2 and the same person who was ruining Byron's moment this morning by giving him the "we need to have a talk" speech while looking like he just broke her heart, then Cody is 100% wrong. If he means embracing being the "bad" girl who wants everyone to watch her, then yeah, that's okay and she should embrace that (within limits because forcing Byron to watch the way she did was no good at all). Being herself shouldn't mean being an angsty bitch who takes, takes, takes but then feels forced to give back to Byron out of guilt and has a hissy fit with what she saw. That part definitely needs to change. If Scar, her best friend, is tired of her shit, then at some point of her acting this way, Byron who "would do anything for her" is going to get tired of her shit too. Chey needs to become comfortable with Byron being with Carla without all the angst and selfishness eating her up. Right now, if Byron were to show up and watch her with Cody again, while it would be gratifying for Chey, It would just make her emotional issues worse as it would validate her being able to act like a bitch and get away with it. Until she's comfortable with Byron having the same experiences she wants, she's going to be an emotional roller coaster that drags everyone down with her while all of them, including Byron, get tired of her antics. I'm hopefully waiting for her to have an epiphany that just hasn't come yet. If you want to be a bad girl, Chey, go buddy up with the other bad girl on the boat, she'd welcome you with open arms, i guarantee it.
