Carla said to Cheyenne, “Does your husband have a paralytic fear of shopping bags or something?”
Cody chuckled. “Byron’s a hardcore environmentalist. If he finds a plastic bag on board this ship, man, look out.”
“Imagine if a plastic bag rustled up from the deck right now,” Carla said, laughing, “got caught in the breeze and wrapped right around Byron’s cute face...”
“And he’s running around screaming,” Cody said, cracking up, “trying to peel it off, cards going everywhere, then whoop, flips over the handrail—”

Byron stared at them over the top of his cards, Cody and Carla leaning against each other, trying to catch their breath, his eyebrows raised high and aloof, showing his measure of cool. “Well, whatever,” he said, “I heard it, you don’t, no big deal. But you know what’s a big deal?”
Carla wiped her eyes with the back of her wrist, sniffling. “What’s that?”
Byron popped his lips and tossed down the King of Hearts. “That’s a big deal right there, baby.” The card spun in place over the layer of already played cards in the center of the table.
Carla and Cody regarded it, more serious now. But Lily said, “Uh-oh.”
Byron peered around Arlo to look at Lily. “Uh-oh what?”
Lily wagged a finger across the table—and he swore he heard that crinkling sound again—aiming at Cody. “I think he’s got the—”
Cody flicked a card, spinning it like a frisbee. It floated down to break-dance on top of Byron’s King. “Ace of Spades, baby.”
“Fuck you, Cody,” Byron said, tossing his remaining hand down. He grabbed the hair at his temples, elbows on the table. “I thought it got played already.”
“That was the last hand, buddy,” Arlo said, patting Byron’s back.
Cody said, “This guy’s got plastic bags on the brain, can’t even pay attention.”
“You guys are probably doing it to mess up my game, break my concentration,” Byron grumbled.

Carla leaned forward, fingers interlaced like she was at the table for peace negotiations, eyeing only Byron, not Cheyenne—his teammate.
Byron scoffed, “Oh boy, here we go.” He flopped back in his chair and rolled his eyes.
Carla smiled, shifted away from him, and faced Cheyenne instead. “Cheyenne...”
Chey showed Byron a dirty look. “You didn’t remember there was an ace still out there?”
Byron threw up his hands in a what-are-you-gonna-do gesture.
Chey said to Carla, “All right. Let’s hear it. What have you got for me?”
“I want you,” Carla said, leveling a finger at Chey, “to take him.” Now the finger swept Byron’s way and his scalp prickled.
Chey said, “Take him, and...?”
Carla said, “Make him smooth.”
Chey frowned. “Make him smooth?”
Byron said, “What does that mean?”
Carla fanned a hand in his direction, saying, “Get rid of all that fluff. I don’t like it.”

Why you always picking on poor Byron, KT? Although... kind of hard to feel too sorry for him. Yes, he's being singled out and picked on by Carla, but the obvious inference here is that she wants him "cleaned up" for them to have sex again, and she wants it her way this time. I think this also might be a bit of a jab at Chey? Her punishment for not telling Byron the "plan" earlier and sabotaging Carla's fun is to have to groom Byron and prep him for sex with Carla. Plus, it also puts them in a position of being together without Carla or Cody so they can discuss things. It gives Chey another opportunity, an out, to fix her sabotage from earlier. But not too easy of an opportunity, because Lily will be there too. And my oh my i can't imagine how that's going to turn out. As to the other, it's nice to see Scarlet coming around to this idea. She obviously hates the lack of knowing, the lack of control, but all three of them are doing a good job of schmoozing Scarlet and trying to make her feel like it's an open exploration instead of a manipulation.
