You ever have those books where you enjoy it SO much that let yourself get very emotionally invested in the characters and the outcome, and then it's like the world ends when the author doesn't have the same perspective you do and takes a different path? Yeah, that was me. Don't ever make things easy, KT. It wouldn't be a KT book if it was predictable or always ended the way i thought it should. Ultimately, i've never read something you wrote where i was disappointed by the time i turned the last page.

At the end of it, this is probably Bryon being Byron, IE: Loving Chey so much he'll do just about anything for her. Given the tepid response Scarlet had prior, in retrospect i shouldn't have been surprised at her laughter and lack of interest. Feel sorry for Sully's lack of performance, which given Scarlet's reaction, makes some sense, if a bit predictable in retrospect given the desired outcome. Scarlet is a better person than i thought, but Chey is much, much worse given how selfish she is. Who knows, maybe this experience will teach her a lesson so she actually reciprocates and shows Byron the same kind of love he's willing to show her (not going to hold my breath on that). My disappointment mainly came from rooting for Byron SO hard, and then to have him turn into poor Charlie, with KT pulling a Gene Wilder "....so you get NOTHING! YOU LOSE! Good day, SIR!" Well, that was interesting, and NOT what I expected at all. Which is typical and usually a good thing.Unfortunately, in this instance, I'm feeling more than a little disappointed. While I enjoyed the interaction between Scarlet and Byron, this feels like Byron and Sully aren't allowed to have a win. Byron capitulates and Chey gets what she wants. I will admit there are any number of ways this could go once Cody shows up, and I'm very eager to find out, especially as Carla could be waiting in the wings somewhere, even after this happens. I guess I had my heart set on the window dressing we were shown,of the four having and enjoyable foursome without outside interference and when the curtains came back, I wasn't prepared to not get what I imagined was behind them. Which in a way is a job very well done, KT, because predictable is boring, even if it means you don't always get what you think you want. Surprise me again in the next chapter!
