I agree with Wess, and I’m not convinced it’s inevitable that it happens. Just because someone is okay with the fantasy doesn’t mean they are going to be okay with it occurring in reality. Agree with CSH about the threat of Josh's character going soft and even becoming complicit. I am holding out hope that he won't acquiesce. Love happy endings but that would be strangely unsatisfying after this gem that KT has constructed. I want to see some fireworks! Not long til the 4th.

absolutely Josh and Devlin will meet up at some point. It seems to me the next phase of Josh’s journey is acceptance (not only of the fantasy, but also of Kimmy’s decision to work with Devlin). As part of this acceptance I think it would be a normal sign of support towards Jimmy for Josh to reach out for some kind of meeting with Devlin. The interesting part will be how 5hat meeting goes and where that meeting takes the story cause I can see it going any number of ways (and most likely KT will take it a way I’m not even considering). And just for clarity, I think Josh is only accepting of the fantasy of his wife cheating. I do not think he would be accepting if he found out Kimmy is actually sleeping with Devlin. He may ultimately not ask for the time off, but he’d only tell Kimmy the bad news so late as to avoid her being able to invite Devlin.. Sure Devlin may show up, but then in Josh’s mind he still has deniability that it’s actually happening. If he knew Devlin was going I don’t see anyway Josh doesn’t try to get the time off, that is just too real.

This is really well said. I often find myself compelled to talk about, "Wow that was a realistic way of executing what is a well tread scenario in these types of stories" and that's because KT delves in the real. She doesnt shy away from outlandish scenarios, I feel like you could make a case that Josh running into his former bully who miraculously is still fantastically good looking, now a huge success in life, who also has a huge cock, knows how to use it, etc. would be a unrealistic situation when viewed at a macro level. But the beauty of what KT does is say, "Ok what if you take real people and put them in this crazy situation no one prepares you for in life?" What we're seeing in Kimmy and Josh's behavior is the petridish of KT's experiment, certified organic lust and angst that is unique to the two characters' personalities and circumstances. And I'm here for it (as the kids say these days).

Reading your comments shows what a great job kt is doing. This story can go in so many different ways. I think all three need to go to Cayman although not necessarily at the same time. Cayman is likely to be the whole next book so you need all the characters involved. How could it go? Kimmy could have her cake and eat it too by continuing as is Josh remaining aware. Josh could become the willing cuckold by either setting Kimmy and Devlin up one way or the other of finding out and releasing it’s what he really wants. It is a cheating story remember. I can’t see him pulling the pin nice the cat is out of the bag. Can’t wait to read what kt does.

There are some narrative dangers here as KT skirts along at the edge of the cuckold story stereotypes. Mainly that Josh will become so rapidly masochistic that he will become a caricature. This is a common failing in these stories that KT has largely avoided in her work so far and I’m confident she can handle it here. Still, his descent threatens to be truly rapid, exacerbated by the time compression in the narrative, and that’s going to be challenging to manage. So far, so good, I think. Another challenge is Kimmy’s bid for power not only over Josh but over Devlin. It strikes me as authentic but somewhat naive, which is a good thing as far as it goes as it shows her newness to this game. Josh is putty in her hands, but if Devlin folds under such a minor challenge I’d be really disappointed. One strength of the story so far is that the characters are allowed to anticipate the consequences of their actions like real thinking people. They can see the dangers lurking ahead but are drawn farther down the path by their own lust. Kimmy can see the danger to Josh and her marriage from Devlin. Josh isn’t stupid, he knows at least subconsciously that not asking for the day off and sending Kimmy to the islands with Devlin will mean they eventually have sex. Both feel compelled to continue and are telling themselves they can handle things and control them. They can’t.

Control and manipulation of others has emerged as a real theme here. Interestingly, all three characters think they can control the others but you can’t control the devil. Josh’s belief that he’s standing up to Devlin is just pathetic. Kimmy’s attempt here to mitigate Devlin’s control might allow her to pretend that she’s going to “get it all” while secretly controlling the action but we all suspect that Devlin will win that fight. Witness Josh undermining her will to fight Devlin by not asking for the time off when she’s trying to make sure they can go together. When she finds out then she might grant his wish and God help him then. Meanwhile her breaking down of Josh’s barriers will make him vulnerable not only to her manipulation but eventually to Devlin’s as well. Devlin can then use Josh’s masochistic impulses to break Kimmy’s resistance to his domination and gain complete control over their marriage. A period of some serious emotional pain and utter humiliation is then in store for Josh.

To be fair (to myself) I was saying, "Burying the hatchet" but was assuming that the only thing that would happen in the scene is Devlin shit talking Josh and telling him the truth about what's happening and how hes going to show up to the Cayman's whether Josh wants it or not. Again, that's if they even meet beforehand, though I assume they will meet, the two of them eventually, given the whole scene about them exchanging numbers and Devlin saying "I'll be in touch, etc."

in that case it could happen, but as you pointed out it’s not likely given a Josh’s history with Devlin. It’s one thing to bury the hatchet over drinks for the sake of your marriage, but to ask the man on what should be a mostly romantic getaway to come along is a different beast entirely.

Right now we are getting into a period where Josh is leaning into the fantasy of his wife cheating (thinks it’s all in his head) while his wife is starting to lean into actually cheating.. There is a whole world of stories to explore when the characters are in this headspace that would vanish once Josh is made aware his fantasy is actually reality.

Yup, the takeaway from the last part for me was that Kimmy is not just learning to make the most of sex with Josh, but with Devlin too. She is calling the shots right now, but like you I can see where someone else can wrestle it back, the last line by Devlin demonstrates to me they are going to keep battling each other. It turns the both of them on, clearly.

This story is all about power, and who wields it, and right now Kimmy has it totally and everyone knows it, including Devlin (especially Devlin)...even before his last line in the story, Kimmy is perceptive enough to realize he is aware of this, and will try to regain it at some point. The question is can she? And does she really want to? Thus far, we haven’t seen her been able to say no to him. Even if she’s now in power, she’s only there because she followed him down this path. With Josh maybe not being able to travel, or being delayed...I think it’s definitive that Devlin will be down there with her...and we see what happens. For the first time I’m wondering if she actually can maneuver this into a spot where Josh knows she’s sleeping with Devlin, but manipulate him into thinking she hasn’t already been with him and is doing it cause he wants it. It’s hard to do that without making Josh look like a total pushover and sap...but maybe keeping him completely in the dark makes him look that week as well. The typical KT “beta” though is always more nuanced than that, so I’m interested to see what twists and turns await.

Great chapter KT! My personal preference is for Josh not to go to Cayman and his reluctance to ask for the time off certainly makes it easier for this scenario to work out. Even better for me is there is a potential of Josh getting caught in a lie and then Kimmy using that as leverage against Josh and allowing her to turn up the humiliation even more that she already is. Super interested in how the rest of this book goes and what happens in Cayman.

I don’t see Josh requesting Devlin be the one that takes Kimmy to Cayman. That is too forward for him. I do see a possibility of Josh not asking for the time off and then making up some excuse about how his boss wouldn’t give him the time off. Not sure if Kimmy would immediately invite Devlin or if Devlin ends up surprising Kimmy at the airport/ Cayman. Eitherway would work, and since Devlin knows people at Josh’s work perhaps Devlin could check in on Josh’s story and relay the findings back to Kimmy. That would certainly add some intrigue to the story.
