"You look so ... small!"
🕑 Added 2024-03-07 22:30:00 +0000 UTCThe next morning: more tension between Jen and Amir; more silence. Jen still couldn’t get over how the top of his head only came up to like the middle of her chest. How insanely wider her shoulders and hips were than his. How incredibly little he looked in every way.
Why was this so weird to her? Her own dad was almost as small as Amir now, and she’d adapted to that well enough yesterday. Maybe the difference was that that was on the show; it was part of the performance. While, here, she was interacting with Amir in real life. Hanging around and wearing normal clothes and doing everyday things, but at totally different sizes than she was used to.
Mrs. Latif, it seemed, had lost patience with them, though. “Alright Amir,” she said around mid-morning, “I have a grocery order I need you to pick up. You might as well take Jen too.”
“But—“
“It’d be rude to leave your guest here. I’m sure she’d like the fresh air.”
“… OK.”
As they walked from the apartment, Jen couldn’t stop staring at Amir. He finally noticed several minutes later. “What?”
“Nothing!”
But her gaze soon returned, and Amir noticed right away. “Why are you looking at me?”
“No reason! I was just … I …” She said the only thing on her mind: “You look so small! I-I mean, the size difference is just so … crazy!” she blurted. Someone had to mention it.
His face twisted … weirdly. “I don’t want to talk about it,” he huffed, sounding kind of … strained … as he hastily turned and sped away, ending all conversation.
