EARLY ACCES // landscapes
I just finished planning a trip to Scotland, so I’ve been thinking about lush, green, epic landscapes! I also want to improve at rendering with a more painterly style. I struggle with this a lot because I really like the clean, crisp contours of the lasso tool and the hard round brush. Basically, I prefer to outline the shapes rather than blend them together. However, I do want my work to be more painterly and textured - so doing these studies was a way to practice this! I was really frustrated with the process because I really struggle with ...

EARLY ACCESS // aches
I've had so many struggles with my tendons throughout my life. I've talked about my repetitive strain injuries before, where my elbow and wrist ached from drawing - something I've managed to overcome with time, but it was a problem for years. I've also had a lot of injuries from running in my knees, ankles, hips - the list goes on. I think my tendons are just a weak point for me and something I'll always struggle with to some extent. For these drawings, I wanted to capture that feeling of being overly aware of what's hap...

EARLY ACCESS // lotus leaves
This month's challenge was on painting dense foliage! EARLY ACCESS // colorful studies
Last year I dabbled in making some studies that were inspired by Egon Schiele’s work, and I really liked the style that came out of it. I was thinking about it a lot while making my face planes tutorialbecause of how it creates different sections out of the face, which helps establish the 3-dimensional forms. So I wanted to kick off this month with some studies that further developed this style! I have so much fun with it every time - also just mixing random colors, which feels freeing. Hope you like these!
