GMTK Game Jam 2020!
So over the weekend I did my first game jam, partnered with a friend. Our first game jam, and our first "finished" game! We had much more planned than we were able to implement, and may revisit it sometime! For now, you can play and rate GMTK Jam games at itch.io (including ours, although to prevent folks with massive followings auto-winning the jam they've implemented a random rating queue before allowing you free rein to rate what you want) -- and if you have the time and inclination please do! There are some incredible games in t...

It's a weird time to update but you're owed a page and I'm out for the weekend trying my hand at the GMTK Game Jam!

Heya folks! July is upon us. This is when the yucky Patreon sales tax is being applied. I think I have configured things so very few of you should be paying much if any tax, but please do let me know if there’s any weird, unforeseen or super bad impacts on your pledges. I appreciate all of you, especially now! Thanks y’all and I hope everyone’s safe and well.

I have to apologize once again for lateness and cut corners on this page. It's been a tough week, but not as tough as it's been for some. I hope all of you are safe and healthy.
Bummer: Patreon and Sales Tax
Hi everyone,I wanted to give you an update on some changes that we’ll be seeing which may affect some of your pledges. Due to new laws passing in several countries and US states, Patreon will be required to start charging sales tax on some pledges starting July 1st.Less than half of all patrons will be charged sales tax, and for most, the amount will be very small. For example, sales tax rates in the US range from 4% to 11%, so on a $5 pledge, that would be between 20 cents and 55 cents.Whether or not you will be charged sales tax depends on ...

This page was challenging for ... a bunch of reasons. Sorry it's so belated! I hope everyone's safe in this weird time!

Hey hey Happy Easter & Chag Sameach where applicable! Hope everyone's staying safe.EDIT: I originally droned on about the following in the NTO Discord but since not everyone does Discord I decided to drop it over here as it might interest readers potentially? I dunno:Since folks in the site comments have referred to this horse as a palomino, today's Horse Fact is it is in fact not a palomino, but a dun, which looks similar to a buckskin but retains primitive markings of ancestral horses, with not just dark points but occasionally some l...
NTO #1's OG Cover Design
Hey guys! I've started working on a new website for NTO, and I'm going the distance on it, including re-cropping and exporting all the files for bigger, better images and hopefully a better mobile experience. While going through them I ran across this, which I don't know if I've ever shared? This is a sketch of my original NTO #1 cover composition, which quite honestly I think is stronger in every respect than the one I ultimately went with!

Patrons, with everyone at home I believe creators of entertainment are more important than ever! Some of us have been able to use this time to redouble our efforts doing what we do, but unfortunately this global health crisis finds me working harder than ever as a parent, and it's been difficult keeping up with the comic, which is why your support right now means more than ever! Thank you so much, and I hope you're all safe and healthy.
Discord Server!
My spouse is working from home, my kid's school is canceled for the next month; it's a weird, isolating time! so in spirit of community I finally made a Next Town Over Discord server (you may have noticed if you were automagically sucked in when I linked the tiers)! General chat is open to anyone so if you're a Discord user please feel free to join! You Patrons also have access to voice chat (not sure how much I'll use this personally; may be restricted to events?) and a Patron-only text lounge where I expect to be the most chat...
Comic Artist Can Have Little A Prose Writing, as a Treat
Last year I revisited the NTO prose novelization a little, to flex my atrophied writing muscles and help keep me invested in the comic. I haven't had time for it this year, it's been worked on in disjointed segments, and I can't remember what I've posted of it here before, honestly, but as an apology for so few recent updates please have this contiguous segment of first draft from the Sun Prairie chapter.Hunter was of the opinion all these Midwestern towns looked alike and for the most part Sun Prairie didn’t do much to turn h...
A sketch
In case you missed it on Twitter or don't Twitter here's the morning Procreate sketch I posted yesterday; I still daydream about doing this all ages, NTO-adjacent frontier fairy tale.
Still alive
Hey Patrons!Since I missed yet another week of NTO I thought I'd share with you the rare piece of freelance work that isn't NDAd or generally private. I'll give a shout when the project this is for hits KS.Recent absence has been largely due to freelance but also because I've been down hard with a gut virus for about a week. Feeling better now though, for the most part, notwithstanding the usual neck pain/malaise!
Comic updates update; unrelated sketch
Hey guys. Just wanted to drop y'all a quick note since I've been so quiet across basically all channels recently.I really appreciate you sticking by me and the comic during this fallow stretch! As I said in the December update I've been taking more freelance work than I had been for years; that's continued this month and probably will for awhile. I got another $2000 medical bill, it's tax time, we have to replace a leaking shower drain, etc., etc.. I'm not loving leaving Patrons dangling, but I'm sort of stuck with t...

When Cutter Met Ironwood page 14
As promised, new Cutter and Ironwood. Thank you so, so much to everyone who reached out with messages of support in response to my post yesterday!A reminder you can view the entirety of C&I here with password "Woodcut". If I ever manage to finish a chapter of this I'll collect it into a PDF for you.Best!
State of the Comic, December 2019
Just over a year ago, I wrote this somewhat ominous blog post and then never really followed it up except for a few sporadic and vague updates for you Patrons. I'll do this inverted pyramid style if you'd rather not read a wall of text about my life. Hell, I'll make you a list of the important stuff. I'm not dying (that I know of); I don't seem to have MS as I feared, either, or any related auto-immune disorder Still afflicted with this chronic, undiagnosed thing although it's not as bad because I've done a ton of wo...
