A Place Further Than the Universe episode 12 part 2!
Click here for the full episode.Click here for just this half.~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~OH MY GOD POOR SHIRASEI mean, it’s good that she finally gets to let it out! This is the sort of thing that NEEDS the emotional catharsis of a good session of gross sobbing! But oh my god poor Shirase oh my god! The poor girl sobbing for her mother...oh, man, that hit me hard.I’d probably have done the same thing. I love my mom so much. I’d...probably have been a blubbering mess much sooner, though.God. This show is so good.I don’t know what else to say. This s...
Baccano episode 13 part 2!
Click here for the full episode.Click here for just this half.~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~What a show. That was loads of fun. A bit too gory at times, it started to feel a bit suspension-breaking, but great nonetheless.Isaac and Miria are all-timer characters for me. I’m going to treasure my time with them for a long time to come. They’re so sweet and adorable and fun and so fucking stupid. I love them to death. I hope I get a lot more of them in the OVAs.Firo...well. “Main character-ish”...In this ensemble piece, it’s hard to argue against that, ...
Paranoia Agent episode 13--Part 2, series finale!
Click here for the full episode.Click here for just this half.~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~Man. What a show. That kept me guessing all the way through. The core mystery of is-it-magic-is-it-not really kept me going for a while there. A compelling cast of characters, too--even the one I utterly fucking despised.Tsukiko and Ikari’s parallel stories converging as each of them hits the breaking point and finds it within themselves to accept the way things truly are was masterfully done. And that’s all it took, in the end--looking within oneself and no longer...
A Place Further Than the Universe episode 12 part 1!
Click here for the liveblog.~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~The girl with the unshakeable resolve had her resolve finally shaken, but came out on top in the end. That felt good to watch. And...just the six of them, on a trip out into the icy wastes, towards the place where Shirase’s mother died......This is going to be interesting. And emotional. And cathartic! This is going to be awesome! I can’t wait. That’s going to be it for tonight. I wanted to do three liveblogs today, but my anxiety pushed that down to two, so I guess this is it. Up next is going to...
Baccano episode 13 part 1!
Click here for the liveblog.~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~Well, we have our answer: Firo’s the one who eats Szilard! I don’t envy him. That’s a LOT of monstrous evil to take into yourself. I wonder how the process works--do the memories blend with your own, or are they more like a separate databank you can dip into from time to time? I suppose if eating someone appreciably affected your personality, a twenty-year-old like Firo eating a centuries-old titan like Szilard would be more Szilard than Firo.Ah well. Still would be cool to explore. That’s Decem...
Paranoia Agent episode 13 part 1!
Click here for the liveblog.~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~Well. Maromi the parasite. That’s a really interesting way to take this, and I guess some pretty unsubtle commentary on the type of craze Maromi belongs to in the real world. I really like the turn that took and the mechanics of what went down. And that line."My place disappeared from this world a long time ago. The reality is that there is no place for me anymore. But that's the reality I have to face!"That’s something more people could do with thinking on. Sometimes, the world you’re...
She-Ra and the Princesses of Power episode 22--Huntara, part 2
Click here for the full episode.Click here for just this half.~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~Mara’s ship, huh. Tantalizing. I wonder what’s inside, and I wonder how Catra’s going to interfere. Go figure she makes it to the center of the wastes without help. That was a pretty decent episode. There were a couple points where I was cringing internally, but Huntara is a pretty good character and the fight scenes were all right. This episode was nothing special, though. As a result, it come in at my new #6 for seasons 2 and 3 (between Signals and Roll With It)...
She-Ra episode 22--Huntara, part 1!
Click here for the liveblog.~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~I’m enjoying this one. It’s got some good funny moments and some good character stuff. This is very much a build-up first half, though--I’m getting built up to the Interesting Things That Will Happen, none of which have Happened yet.Entrapta helping an injured Hordak is going to be an interesting direction for him. He’s already shown concern and protectiveness for her, and I’m sure while he’s helpless and weak and seeing her show concern for him there will be some measure of trust gained be...
She-Ra episode 21--The Price of Power, part 2!
Click here for the full episode.Click here for just this half.~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~Well! That was a pretty good one. Some good character work between Adora and Shadow Weaver, and some great moments from Team Evil. I wish the whole episode had been as funny and tightly written as the opening, but that would be a high bar to clear, so I’m not too disappointed.I really like how the adults in Adora’s life--Angella and Castaspella--were intent on keeping her away from Shadow Weaver. Truly protective authority figures looking out for her is such a hear...
She-Ra and the Princesses of Power episode 21 part 1!
Click here for the liveblog.~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~Man, I’m sorry that took so long, guys. I’ve had a very stressful month so far. Expect this to pick up for the next few days--I intend to get at least to the end of episode 22 before we finish the month.Anyways, I’m liking this so far! It had a very funny start, and it has a lot of promise with the Catra, Hordak, and Shadow Weaver interactions we’ve seen so far. I’m looking forward to seeing how Shadow Weaver approaches teaching Adora First Ones’ magic. I wonder how different it is from mod...
A Place Further than the Universe episode 11 part 2!
Click here for the full episode.Click here for just this half.~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~Man. This show really makes me smile. What an excellent group of friends. Watching Hinata break down as it really hit her how much her new friends care about her was...wow. That felt really good.Hinata has always held her cards close to the chest, and watching her walls come down and her letting herself cry as her new friendship washed over her was so good. And wow was there a lot of ship fuel in this episode. I’m still mulling over the pairing versus Mari/Shirase, b...
Baccano episode 12 part 2!
Click here for the full episode.Click here for just this half.~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~I have to say, Ladd and Claire’s fight was kind of disappointing? They threw like six punches each and just monologued at each other for a while. At least Ladd’s off the train, so I don’t have to listen to him anymore.Isaac and Miria with Czeslaw will be interesting. I wonder if they break through his trust issues completely, or he just decides to take pity on them and leave them be. I can definitely see them rubbing off on him positively. As for the showdown betw...
Paranoia Agent episode 12 part 2!
Click here for the full episode.Click here for just this half.~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~Well. Things are kicking off, aren’t they? Li’l Slugger’s come for his creator, Maniwa’s finally able to hurt him, Mr. Ikari is trapped in his own memories...and he’s met Tsukiko, an intruder into his own past. Interesting. And Maromi is starting to disappear from the world. Like, actually, physically, vanish. Poof. Gone. Tsukiko’s creations have gone haywire, the power she’s invested into them going in unexpected directions. And, from the looks of it, all...
Mob Psycho episode 2 part 2!
Click here for the full episode.Click here for just this half.~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~What an ending. That made me cackle. I was so prepared for him to join the club of misfits and learn social skills and assertiveness and stuff, but this is WAY better--an actual club themed around actual self-improvement? This is going to be SO good for him! And he’ll definitely learn assertiveness and social skills this way! Oh, this is going to be FUN.Also, wow, Reigen, you asshole. What the hell were you thinking, putting Mob through that?I’m glad Mob is doing s...
Mob Psycho 100 episode 2 part 1!
Click here for the liveblog.~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~Man, Mob’s caught between two rocks and a hard place, huh? Reigen’s just taking advantage of him for personal gain, and I guess technically Tome is too, but she’s at least his peer instead of an adult. Also, she’s not the one paying Mob three bucks an hour, so I’m inclined to favor her over Reigen even more.I wonder what shenanigans the Telepathy Club is going to get up to once they’ve got an actual psychic on their roster. I imagine thwarting Takagawa is going to be satisfying for them, bu...
Mob Psycho 100 episode 1 part 2!
Click here for the full episode.Click here for just this half.~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~Well, that’s the first episode of Mob Psycho 100! I’m interested. Mob seems like an interesting character--that much power packed into a kid facing the same kind of school age foibles as everyone else is going to be very interesting. Also, I’m having a hard time not reading him as autistic so far, but then again I haven’t got THAT much to go on. It’ll be cool to see how that pans out.Don’t like Reigen. He’s an asshole, and he’s taking advantage of a kid...
Mob Psycho episode 1 part 1!
Click here for the liveblog.~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~This one’s off to a weird start. The art style is jarring at times--pretty much anything involving Reigen gets weird, actually. I’m sure I’ll get used to it, though. Speaking of him, man do I dislike Reigen. He’s an asshole who’s taking advantage of a kid. I’m not supposed to like Reigen, right? Not at this point, anyways? I’m guessing there will be some upcoming comeuppance at some point.Mob, though? I like Mob. I haven’t seen a lot of him yet, but what I’ve seen is very sympathetic....
A Place Further Than the Universe, episode 11 part 1!
Click here for the liveblog.~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~Oof. They’re both upset. Shirase didn’t really assert herself about it before snooping, though? She halfheartedly asked a couple of times without being specific and then just went straight to reading her emails. Well, it’s done now, and Hinata caught her doing it, too, so now they get to have it out--or more likely, Hinata gets to be mad about it for a while, and then have it out later. Also, maybe I’m misunderstanding Japanese culture, but Hinata just called her “Shirase” without any honori...
Baccano episode 12 part 1.
Click here for the liveblog.~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~Not a lot’s happened so far this episode, huh? Rachel rescued the Beriams and Nice and Nick, but other than that...Dallas and Luck talked to each other, and Szilard talked to Maiza, and Claire talked to Ladd, and Czeslaw talked to himself. This was mostly an in-transit liveblog. I’m sure the second half of the episode will have more satisfying stuff happen, but for right now I’m left wanting. It doesn’t help that the episode split came a bit earlier in this episode than usual, either.Ah well. I...
Paranoia Agent episode 12 part 1!
Click here for the liveblog.~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~Man. Poor Maniwa. His delusions are really in control of him, huh? He needs help badly. The thing is, I think there really is a tulpa in play...but how much can Maniwa actually accomplish in his state? If he’s not just making up that attack on Tsukiko when she was a child, that would explain where she got the idea for her assailant. Who knows if she even know that consciously, though. Who could that have been, I wonder. I assume I’ll keep wondering; that doesn’t sound like a detail that will actua...
A Place Further Than the Universe, episode 10 part 2!
Click here for the full episode.Click here for just this half.~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~Okay, now I’m tearing up a little bit. That poor girl. She went so long without real friends. This is a long time coming for her--she’s managed to make a real connection with people her own age, ones who aren’t just using her for social status, ones who actually care about her and do things like go out of their way to set up a surprise birthday party at the bottom of the world. This is the first time in her life that friends have acknowledged her birthday...I can...
Baccano episode 11 part 2!
Click here for the full episode.Click here for just this half.~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~I have to say, yikes. When this show goes in on being gruesome, it doesn’t hold back. Like I said, it gets to be a bit much for me sometimes? But I’ll manage. It seems Claire likes the sound of his own voice almost as much as Ladd does--thankfully, he’s far more interesting and entertaining, when he’s not, y’know, happily talking about how he’s going to flay a child’s body alive just to torture its occupant. Biting off the fingers was bad enough, Claire, b...
Paranoia Agent episode 11 Part 2!
Click here for the full liveblog.Click here for just this half.~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~That was pretty cool. Watching Mrs. Ikari grapple with her own mental illness and urge to die was very interesting. Seeing her hit that moment of peace and clarity was very satisfying! I liked that part of it a lot. It’s so tragic that outside of her head she was destroying her house while struggling with her mental illness. As for Keiichi...He’s a lot more human than his wife gives him credit for, and humans get tired. He’s worn out. He’s exhausted, and he doe...
She-Ra episode 20--Reunion, Part 2!
Click here for the full episode.Click here for just this half.~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~That was very good. Bow’s dads were very fun characters, and it’s so cool to see canon lgbt rep treated and handled well. They were great characters with a good amount of depth. Getting a good look at Bow’s family and where he came from was a delight; I’ll confess I don’t usually find Bow very interesting, but this episode changed that a lot.As for Catra...well. She’s pretty much screwed, isn’t she? I don’t know how she gets out of this with anything at...
She-Ra episode 20--Reunion, part 1!
Click here for the liveblog.~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~This is...well. You guys know how I feel about awkward situations and the tension thereof. Thankfully, they haven’t dwelt TOO much on it, and have been moving forward steadily, but it’s on shaky ground. The Dads are fun, and I can see a lot of potential in the angst over the war. I’m still torn on whether Left Dad knows Bow is making up the school or not, but Bow coming clean about his adventures is certainly going to make for an interesting conversation. As for Team Evil, well. Catra’s going a l...
She-Ra episode 19--Light Spinner, part 2!
Click here for the full episode.Click here for just this half.~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~I liked that. I really really liked that. We got to see Shadow Weaver’s descent, such as it was, from hero to villain, and it really gave us a great look at her as a character. I really really like how fleshed out she is, my reservations about how her heel turn was handled notwithstanding. Seeing how consistent Light Spinner is with the current-day Shadow Weaver was really well done. And that betrayal of Catra. Oooof. That hurts. Poor kid. She reached out to someone f...
She-Ra episode 19--Light Spinner, part 1!
Click here for the liveblog.~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~I’m liking this a lot. Shadow Weaver is turning out to be a much more nuanced and interesting character than I’d given her credit for. Seeing her descent from Light Spinner into Shadow Weaver is pretty interesting. I can see this episode rating very highly once it’s over. And how will Catra deal with her feelings about her mom? I wonder if she’ll just release her. A little act of rebellion against Hordak, and a way of cutting ties with Shadow Weaver in a similar way to how she cut ties with Ador...
She-Ra episode 18--White Out, part 2!
Click here for the full episode.Click here for just this half.~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~That was great. I loved that. Great action, great jokes, Drunk Adora...and it was a Scorpia episode! Much more so than Roll With It was. I’d actually say that Scorpia is the primary focus of the whole thing! And what a good look at her it was. She learned a lesson about what being loyal actually means, and it’ll be interesting to see her and Catra’s dynamic going forward. I hope this evens out the dynamic between them a bit.Goooooood stuff. Funny, fun, and with g...
She Ra episode 18--White Out, part 1!
Click here for the liveblog.~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~Well. This is a mighty fine pickle, isn’t it? Adora incapacitated, the rest of the Idiot Brigade at the bottom of a snowy pit, and hostile murderbugs with inexplicable eyelids hunting everyone down. Team Evil is going to have a rough time of it fighting off those murderbugs...well, I guess Catra didn’t have all that much trouble with the spiders, come to think of it. Maybe they’ll be fine.Probably not, though.I’m rather enjoying this one so far. Seeing Adora go berserk was great stuff, and for ...
She-Ra episode 17--Roll With It, part 2!
Click here for the full episode.Click here for just this half.~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~I really liked that. That was fun. I wish it had turned out to be an actual game of not-D&D that went off the rails as opposed to a failed planning session, but it was super fun nonetheless. Even with all its untapped potential, this episode managed to play with D&D tropes well enough to earn a high ranking in my eyes. And the homage to OG She-Ra! That was hilarious. The combat section was, as usual, just kind of okay. This show’s strength is in its character work and...
