She-Ra episode 9--No Princess Left Behind, part 2!
Click here for the full episode.Click here for just this half.~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~Overall, not a bad one! The bickering between the princesses was fun, and it had a couple very fun moments. Still…it didn’t really stand out to me? I had high expectations to start with, so maybe I’m being a little unfair, but that just didn’t make much of a mark on me. The Big Dramatic Beat fell flat for me, too, because there’s no way in hell they’ve actually killed Entrapta. It’ll be interesting to see how they get her back away from the Horde, though....
She-Ra episode 9 part 1--No Princess Left Behind!
Click here for the liveblog.~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~I have to say, the Princess Posse hasn’t been a riot, but I’m having a good amount of fun with them. Entrapta and Perfuma’s interactions have been all kinds of great, and I love Entrapta in general, so it’s really great to see her in action again. With the pacing we’re seeing, it’s certainly not looking like this will extend to the end of the season, though I’m not sure how I thought we’d get five episodes out of this anyways. I wonder what the actual season-ender will be.Up next is goin...
She-Ra episode 8 part 2--Princess Prom!
Click here for the whole episode.Click here for just part 2.~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ayyyy literal cliffhanger timeWell! That had its low points for me, but that was a pretty good episode overall. I didn’t enjoy the jealousy drama, but Frosta is an interesting character and the Catra/Adora dynamic really getting focused on made for a really good time.I really like the nuances in that relationship. They both want the other back, but are unwilling to back down and rejoin the other. The tension between them is really great, and made for the best non-Entra...
She-Ra and the Princesses of Power episode 8 part 1--Princess Prom!
Click here for the liveblog.~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~Gotta say, I’m liking Frosta as a character. She’s clearly intelligent, well-spoken, and savvy, despite being eleven. I wonder how they’re going to convince her to join up? Will it be related to Catra crashing the ball? I guess I’ll find out next time.and please god give me more entrapta I love herI’ll be liveblogging the second half of this episode on Monday. In the meantime, in a little bit I’m going to be streaming more of the FE3H DLC campaign that just came out! Watch me live at my Twi...
A Place Further Than the Universe, episode 7 part 1!
Click here for the liveblog.~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~To see the sky.I wonder what that means. To see the beauty of the Antarctic expanse seems like a simple enough answer, but perhaps too simple. I have no experience with Antarctica, obviously, but it sounds to me like there’s something magical about it, something intangible that drives those who go there to come back again and again. I wonder if that’s it. That big empty sky.I’m liking the tension being built up here. I wonder how long the expedition will go before their resources begin to run out....
Baccano episode 8 part 1!
Click here for the liveblog.~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~I LOVE THESE IDIOTSGod, I love these idiots. They’re so much fun. They’re always so much fun. I had no idea what I was getting into when I started this series but I am SO glad this got picked for me to do.I know I say that almost every Baccano wrap-up, but this one was all about my favorite characters, and I feel like that’s all I can say. I love them. They’re the best. I want more. I can’t wait for the rest of the episode next month.Up next more immediately is going to be the first half of A...
Paranoia Agent Episode 8 Part 1.
Click here for the liveblog. WARNING: This episode deals with suicidal people, and thus contains a bit of heavy content.~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~Hrm.I think...that I shall go to bed, and think of other things.I’ll see you guys tomorrow for the Hollow Knight stream (if my internet doesn’t go out again) and Monday for the Baccano liveblog. Thanks for bearing with me on this one.
She-Ra Episode 7 part 2--In the Shadows of Mystacor!
Click here for the entire episode.Click here for just this half.~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~I liked that. That episode had a very natural-feeling arc to it, a tone, a mood that shifted slowly and rose smoothly into the climax. It had strong writing, as well, something I was a bit disappointed about in System Failure. I like that they focused in on Shadow Weaver as an abusive mother figure--I couldn’t relate very strongly to it, but it did a good job getting me to understand and empathize with the situation.I’m intrigued by the sword’s new form. I didn...
She-Ra episode 7--In the Shadows of Mystacor, part 1!
Click here for the liveblog.~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~This has been…pleasantly low-key for most of its run. Relaxed, even. Even the Shadow Weaver bits have been lower-key than expected. It’s nice! I kind of needed a relaxing one after the last set of Steven Universe episodes. It’s cool to get a surprise look at Shadow Weaver’s background, and I’m looking forward to seeing more of that…and of her current efforts.Ooooh, I wonder if we’ll get to see a caster fight?Up next for the liveblog is going to be the second half of this She-Ra episode! I...
Steven Universe Future episode 10--Prickly Pear!
Click here for the liveblog.~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~And that’s Steven Universe Future, as far as it’s aired.I think we’re finally, finally, finally going to dig into all the repressed trauma and self-sacrificing impulses Steven’s had to deal with for all of this time. No more jumping from one crisis to the next without time to breathe. No more running from it. It’s time for Steven’s pain to air out, for his issues to air out, and for him to start learning to need himself instead of needing other people to need him.I hope that’s where this ...
Steven Universe Future episode 9--Little Graduation.
Click here for the liveblog.~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~I liked that ending. It’s so rare that we get an episode ending on a downbeat like that--not negative, not dramatic, just...the question. What is he doing with his life? Is he happy? Should he change? Does he need something new, or is he okay with the old? I like that. The rest of the episode was frustrating, though. I don’t like awkwardness like that, I aggressively don’t like watching someone make a fool of themselves. It had a few good laughs, but it was a frustrating experience overall. And th...
Steven Universe Future Episode 8--Why So Blue?
Click here for the liveblog.~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~Not gonna lie, that was…I hate to throw around words like “cringey”, but it kinda was, wasn’t it? Such a weird, off-putting way to try to get through to them. I suffered from secondhand embarrassment for like half that episode. I didn’t like it. Kinda felt like I was being laughed at when the Lapises laughed. Didn’t really feel the song that much, either.Water Goddess Lapis was cool, at least. Ah, well. They can’t all be winners. Why So Blue? comes in at my new #7 for Season 6, between A ...
Steven Universe Future episode 7--Snow Day!
Click here for the liveblog.~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~Holy shit. Ohhhh my god that was so funny. Oh my god. I’m so happy with that episode. What a turnaround from A Very Special Episode. Holy shit. And what an excellent way for Pearl to start shapeshifting again! Something wholesome and low-key, where there’s no stakes, no pressure, just a sweet, fun reason to open herself up to that again.I love this episode. No question. This is one of the best episodes in the show. It’s been so long since we’ve had an episode that was just...pure, undiluted fun. ...
Steven Universe Future episode 6--A Very Special Episode.
Click here for the liveblog.~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~I have to say, I liked Say Uncle better. At least Say Uncle opened with “None of this is real”, so I could just sit back and let the silliness wash over me instead of investing my energy into the episode like I did here. Not to mention–Uncle Grandpa is a weird-ass character, and I don’t particularly like the humor, but Sunstone is just kind of…lame. So we got an episode focused on a pointless gimmick whose core joke is that it’s playing 90s PSAs straight that wasn’t very funny and mostly ...
A Place Further than the Universe Episode 6 part 2!
Click here for the full episode.Click here for just this part.~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~Oh my god. I cannot believe this. That was so goddamn funny. It would have very rapidly become not funny had she not been able to get the money back, but wow. Oh my god.And we got a good look at Hinata, finally! I really like that the first relationship of hers we focus on is with Shirase instead of Mari. Developing characters together that aren’t the viewpoint character is a very good thing for a story like this, and it showed us interesting things about the both of...
Baccano episode 7 part 2!
Click here for the full episode.Click here for just part 2.~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~I guess I know now why Szilard had Dallas gooed up; once he’s got the stuff in his system, he’s properly edible, even though Szilard said he probably wouldn’t get much from devouring him. Still. Odd choice.I’m not sure why I’m so surprised that most of the immortals made it off the Advenna Avis alive. I knew at least Maiza, Szilard, and Czeslaw would, but now there’s a whole bunch that are probably still running around the world. It’s interesting to think ab...
Paranoia Agent episode 7 part 2.
Click here for the whole episode.Click here for just this liveblog.~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~Maniwa just had a really weird turn. He went off the deep end about something he was right about, and I don’t know where he’s going to go from here? This episode was weird, and not just because of the usual weirdness with Paranoia Agent. It felt like a big leap for him to make, and I’m not sure I like it all that much. Still! The story moves forward, and it’s looking like Magic may be the case after all.AND HEY WHAT THE HELL WAS THAT NEXT TIME ON SEGMENT G...
Steven Universe Future episode 5--Bluebird.
Click here for the liveblog.~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~You know, in a vacuum? That episode is fine. Good, even! It had some good laughs, it didn’t drag on the wolf-crying bit, and it had a fun little fight at the end. The problem, though...Let’s talk a little about villain decay.Aquamarine is far and away my favorite villain in Steven Universe. It’s not even close. She made such a huge impression in her first outing! She was menacing, hilarious, delightfully hateable with a delightful contrast between her design and her personality. I love that awful...
Steven Universe Future episode 4--Volleyball!
Click here for the liveblog.~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~I was really not expecting to get a Pearl episode today! And a Pink Pearl episode at the same time! Deedees and Deedees galore! Details about Gem society! Pink Diamond backstory! God! This was good. It’s not quite good enough to crack my top twenty, but Volleyball comes in at my new #24 for the series, between The Big Show and Earthlings (and my new #1 for Season 6, edging out Little Homeschool).Up next is going to be Steven Universe Future episode 5--Bluebird! It will not, however, be Wednesday. I’...
Steven Universe Future Episode 3--Rose Buds!
Click here for the liveblog.~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~That was a good episode. That was a necessary episode. It needed to happen for both the audience and for Steven. I had some issues with the awkwardness, but there was a lot more that needed to happen here that made up for it. In Fusion Cuisine, Steven could have Just Not. In The New Lars, Steven could have Just Not. In both of those cases, Steven deciding to Just Not wouldn’t have robbed us of much, but here…we got a really great character breakthrough and some really great new characters out of it...
Steven Universe Future episode 2--Guidance!
Click here for the liveblog.~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~I’m kinda mixed on that one. On the one hand, it was really really funny when it tried to be. On the other, it was a bit rough to get through in the middle; Steven trampling all over Amethyst’s excitement and good deed was painfully unpleasant to watch, and some of Smoky Quartz’s dialogue was awkward and rough to listen to. All in all, I’d rate this one about the middle of the pack; Guidance comes in at my new #2 for the season, behind Little Homeschool, and my new #72 for the series, between T...
Steven Universe Future Episode 1!
Click here for the liveblog.~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~What a good way to start the series off. A little bit of the past, a lot of the present, and a look towards the future. And Jasper! We’re starting off with Jasper! I wasn’t expecting that, and I definitely wasn’t expecting her to become a mentor figure. I like it, though! It’s good for both her arc and Steven’s. That was a great fight scene, too. I joked about it being anime as hell, but it was very Dragon Ball. I hope it’s a sign of more interesting fights going forward, ones that don’t ...
A Place Further Than the Universe Episode 6 Part 1!
Click here for the liveblog.~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~God, this show is cute, and uplifting, and happifying. It always puts me in such a good mood. Well, not always, there were points in Megumi’s breakup speech where I was really crushed, but you know what I mean. And travel! I love love love love love traveling, and this episode really brought that out for me to live vicariously through these girls.I love this show.Up next for the liveblog is going to be the first episode of Steven Universe Future! Are you excited? Because I am. I can hardly wait. New ...
Baccano episode 7 part one!
Click here for the liveblog.~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~That was the most linear and all-together part of the narrative thus far. And it’s an interesting one! The devil’s playing games, offering temptation, and preparing these men to become monsters. I wonder how many of them will make it off of this boat alive. We know Maiza, Szilard, and Czeslaw do; this Huey is fairly obviously the Huey mentioned elsewhere in the show, as well.Hrm. Actually, I wonder if Gretel is the Rail Tracer? He was looking for someone. Perhaps he used a false name and was “los...
Notice about choosing a new show this time:
We won't be yet!Infinity Train airs a new season in early January, and December is going to be a lot of Steven Universe, so I wouldn't have time to start a new show anyways. We're going to hold off on picking a new one for now.
Paranoia Agent Episode 7 Part 1!
Click here for the liveblog.~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~Hrm. I thought I could see what Maniwa was angling towards, but maybe I’m just a couple steps ahead in his thought process? Was that Maniwa realizing what I’d been thinking? I guess I’ll find out next time. The mystery deepens; I think Kozuka seems to be telling the truth, which means either there’s another attacker involved or they’re doing it to themselves. It could be either one at this point, and either one could fit the title of the series.Vexing, indeed.Up next is going to be Baccano on...
Infinity Train episode 10--The Engine! LONG POST SERIES WRAP-UP
Click here for the liveblog.~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~And with the faded end credits theme itself fading into nothing…Infinity Train has concluded.I think I am…content.Content is a good word. That ending brought things to a close in, appropriately, a way I find very peaceful. Tulip’s worked through her issues. She’s ready to face her family. She’s ready to face the world. She’s ready, in fact, for anything. And what she’s found…is peace.Minda said in chat that he thinks the show is a metaphor for using fiction to deal with your problems, a...
Infinity Train episode 9--The Past Car!
Click here for the liveblog.~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~Wow. That brought me back up alongside Tulip. The Ball Pit Car utterly wrecked me--I actually had a little trouble sleeping for a couple nights because of it--but The Past Car was a nice, gradual incline back up to an even keel for both myself and the main character. Excellently done. It makes me feel better about the preceding episode, as well--now that I know there’s hope for Atticus, I’m not going to lose any more sleep over it.And, wow. Way to humanize the villain. Good work there, Infinity Tra...
Infinity Train episode 8--The Ball Pit Car.
Click here for the liveblog.~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~My reaction to the episode.
Infinity Train Episode 7--The Chrome Car!
Click here for the liveblog.~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~That was a prime example of how “predictable” doesn’t equal “bad”. There were only a couple real surprises along the way, but it was structured and executed so well with such endearing characters and development that it didn’t matter. Horseradish was such a good character! It makes perfect sense for her to choose to stay behind and become her own person, but I’m still really sad we didn’t get more of her. She’d have been such a good addition to the crew. Still, it’s probably better ...
