Primal | Scribble Kibble

Primal's fantastic animation captures the violence of survival on a primordial planet where everything wants to kill you. https://www.adultswim.com/videos/primalThe series is a monstrous rare showcase in storytelling without dialogue. If you can stomach gore (or if you live for it), the show is a great study in sound design, animated expression, and action. Its brilliance becomes more apparent when you pick through any of the episodes you really like. Plague of Madness scars for life.If Primal reminds you of Samurai Jack except with modern ...

Puss in Boots (no spoilers)

It was excellent.

Animator's Journal 08 - Content Apocalypse

Honestly I'm starting to think I won't make this video public, even though I say in it that I will. Yay indecision! (UPDATE: I decided to keep it private.)All Animator's Journals: https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PLYDh8mMwv-pPTkdmdD2GH6j3GozrAf9RH

Pico Park Ruins Friendships

The other day I saw the video I did like this for Among Us, and it was still entertaining. That inspired me to hurry up and edit the Pico Park collection.I have to stop animating these in After Effects, though. Now that I've done it twice I know for sure handling the characters in Toon Boom would save a little time.

I Dated Shadow the Hedgehog

Five stars for mom's meatloaf.

I Dated Shadow the Hedgehog (behind the scenes)

This is a whole story, and the story is that a hilariously bad date happened. The art will be done in December. It's a 2 month project since the video will be 7 minutes long.Below is me trying to make "Shadow" look like a fake lame Shadow. It didn't work so I thought I'd draw him normally, except SomehowCreative sketched a lame design that I'm now using. Her art is the last one.The panda's name is Toki. She's got more bust in the animatic, though I rather like the bean body of the concept art.

Attack On Pony Preview

This is still going to take a while to finish. Slowly, but surely.

actually druk for the first time

This is a ridiculous video. The script was written while drunk - a mistake that happened on vacation. Otherwise I'm not a big drinker and I definitely don't "crossfade," hah! The word just sounds cool. Crossfade.I'll ask permission from Zil to share some of the animation I've actually been working on before October ends. I am also working on the new Sheriff Hayseed for Piemations.

Turn Everything into a Subscription

Inspired by yet another art program going to the monthly payment model.I get why this happens (heck we're on Patreon so you know) but it's fun to make fun of. Mostly I keep thinking about how BMW decided to only let drivers use heated seats if they pay $18/month.Music: "Danzarin" by Mandrágora Tango, Live 2007

Animator's Journal 06 - year long project

August 2022. Starting a longer term animation that will take many months to finish. $/hour earned on YouTube. Cute Little Egg

Glad I was able to make two short silly videos this month. 👏This one will come out in July.

Speed Paint with Commentary

Behind the scenes just for you, thanks for supporting! 15 hour digital painting sped up to fit in twelve minutes, with commentary on how I approach this style.

Slow Paint (opposite of speedpaint)

Speedpaints have footage sped up about 60x faster, so, what if instead it was slowed down 60x slower? This is a silly video but I did make a full time lapse with commentary on how the digital painting is made here: https://www.patreon.com/posts/67732868 The art is a commission of arctic kirin characters Aurelion and Windshear. They were able to find a nirnroot cave during their search for rare herbs.⭐️ MUSIC ⭐️"Cloud Flying" by Leaf Groove: https://soundcloud.com/leafgroove/cloud-flying

Animator's Journal 05 - for kids

May 2022. Being tired, and talking about the "for kids" epidemic flying around 2D animation on YouTube. I don't see why things have to have extreme themes in them in order to be "for adults."Art today is a commission of characters Reggie and Maxwell.Ko-Fi is https://ko-fi.com/crowneprince and TikTok is https://www.tiktok.com/@crowneprintsJournal 01 - making a choiceJournal 02 - saying noJournal 03 - new animation jobJournal 04 - art that sellsJournal 05 - for kids

Animator's Journal 04 - art that sells

I meant to make a short ramble but then it turned into a long one about designing art for merchandise. The video footage is of a commission for Paprika.Journal 01 - making a choiceJournal 02 - saying noJournal 03 - new animation jobJournal 04 - art that sellsJournal 05 - for kids

Bum Bum Butt

Music is by SomehowCreative and ChikkinScratch.

Animator's Journal 03 - new animation job

Finished editing at the end of the day and had time to digitally stabilize, but it sure creates a lot of artifacting and weird wobbles. At least you don't feel like your brain is flying around from all the bouncy walking.Journal 01 - making a choiceJournal 02 - saying noJournal 03 - new animation jobJournal 04 - art that sells

Ponyfinder: Bestiary of Everglow

I got the chance to make another video for Ponyfinder, this time by animating a bunch of the original artwork out of one of their books. They are fundraising to create a new book full of monsters for Pathfinder and DnD 5e. It'll be live at https://www.indiegogo.com/projects/ponyfinder-bestiary-of-everglow/coming_soon.

Periods. Every Single Month.

Little 20 second animation. After Turning Red came out, everybody on my social media started talking about periods. So here's my contribution. They're hell. The end.

Animator's Journal 02 - saying no

Way better quality this time! Image stabilization is a lot more difficult to manage without the right equipment. I can do it in Premiere of course, but it takes hours to process, a lot of tweaking, and crops the video quite a bit. Sorta defeats the point of keeping these simple.Journal 01 - making a choiceJournal 02 - saying noJournal 03 - new animation job

Smiling Friends [Scribble Kibble]

Smiling Friends is like experiencing the magic (and insanity) of independent animation culture for the first time, when everything was new and fresh and there were no rules. The short episodes are addicting, rewatchable, and quotable. The humor is irreverent. And the art does whatever it wants. It's not for everyone, but that's what makes it special.

Komi Can't Communicate [Scribble Kibble]

This episode is slated for release in March because I want to get in a video about Smiling Friends for February while it is still relevant. The current Scribble Kibble plans are:February: Smiling FriendsMarch: KomiApril: Wish DragonMay: Arcane

Animator's Journal 01 - making a choice

If you'd like audio only, the .mp3 is attached. This year I'll be sharing a video/audio journal entry each month talking about what I am doing in art and life, while taking nature walks. These are only for you and I currently don't plan on sharing them outside of Patreon. The January video is rough, quality wise. I record all in one go and now see how badly the old 2013 GoPro is affected by shaky snowshoeing (fixed slightly by video editing) and strong wind audio. The wind was so bad in some parts I cut those out. I've got a separ...

High Guardian Spice [Scribble Kibble]

I've sorta become low key obsessed with High Guardian Spice as a result of how long it took me to create this video—like, Stockholm syndrome, but it's this below average animated series that's kept me imprisoned. This is a fun exploration of the baffling technical art errors on screen. There must have been significant behind-the-scenes problems while making HGS. I honestly feel really bad for everyone involved. Surviving this kind of flop and continuing to create in spite of all the negative press is an extreme test of willpower.

Zombie Conservation Fund

It's 12 am so I'm half asleep and rethinking how unintentionally gorey this might've turned out—it's hard to do zombies without gore—but here it is! I like the logo and added two versions to Redbubble. Since "Noah's Ark but With Zombies" was funny in my head I made that as a shirt design also.Neon Green LogoBlack & Red LogoZombie Noah's Ark

Zombie Conservation Fund (music)

I couldn't quite finish this 2 minute animation in only a week! It's going to take two. (Post note: it took three.) Since I'm designing a logo for it and a shirt as well it might be a little extra time. Definitely before we get too close to 2022 though. The music throughout this silly parody fundraiser to protect zombies is a version of "In the Arms of an Angel." Nitsua wrote some ridiculous lyrics for it, and SomehowCreative did the vocals and piano. It's beautiful. And terrifying.Livestream recording of working on some ...
