Patreon Prints - December 2022
Patrons get TWO prints this month! The people voted for a Moevember print based on last year's design, and it felt only right to do one for this year too! I gotta say, they look really good together:So if you'd like these two A5 prints, please sign up to the Patreon at the £10 ("Robo-Ninja-Agent-Force") or higher level (or stay at that level if you're already on it) and these prints will be sent out straight to you early next month! If you have any questions, please let me know!ALSO I am not sure what options will be made a...
Bonus! Old Man and Singing Sirloin
You fell for my trap, you fool!Last week I told you we'd probably never see "Old Lady" again, but here she is, and she's dyed her hair and hooked up with one of the other residents of the Retirement Castle! They're adorable, I hope they have many happy years together. The Singing Sirloin is one of the least charactery characters we've ever encountered, but I thought the wee mascot was cute enough to doodle. Interestingly* this restaurant appears only twice in the show, once here and once in season 12's "Homer vs. D...
0157 - Security Guard
A new week and a new episode! Our first new friend in "Life On The Fast Lane" is this mall security guard who appears a full 19 years before the movie "Paul Blart: Mall Cop", making him a true pioneer.Worth noting for posterity that this is not the first appearance of the Springfield Mall, a surprisingly consistent location, as it first appeared in "Simpsons Roasting on an Open Fire". This guy was nowhere to be seen. This post is part of my "Every Simpsons Character Ever" series. For a list of my rules in this pro...
The Telltale Head - round up!
Episode 8 is in the CAN. A few major characters in this one! Springfield is starting to take shape - the inclusion of many characters we've seen before in the mob scene really makes it start to feel like this is a consistent town full of recurring faces. I think we can all agree the most lasting and recognisable character to come out of this is Ms Albright. What's that? You want to know the NCHC (New Character Hat Count) of this episode? 3 hats on 16 characters, that's a NCHC of 18.75%. That's somewhere in the middle, but look at...
0156 - Man in Bear Costume
Our final character in The Telltale Head is a very minor one, just the way I like it. He appears in the dramatization of Jebidiah Springfield's life on TV, but he does make a distinct fake roar sound, allowing him inclusion in this prestigious project. The Jebidiah actor has no lines in this scene, so he will remain ultimately forgotten by the passage of time. One thing I had never noticed until today is that they do recreate the post of the statue momentarily (and I mean VERY momentarily, I had to slow playback down to 0.25x to capture it):...
BONUS! Old Person and Lady
One last minor trip to obscurity before we wrap up this episode:When unusual and unique character designs like these two stand out to me, it just seems fun to throw them into the mix. I think about how needlessly exhaustive this project has become, and I don't want to miss any fun opportunities. Like, these two are so distinct and unusual, there's no way they're going to show up again, right? So why NOT give them a chance to shine here?Like, just look at that old lady in the wheelchair. That's a crazy design, there's no way ...
Moevember, Week 4
We have come to the end of this moe-st glorious month. Thank you all for indulging me in this stupidity. The final batch of Moes are: Moe-ker, Moe-toro, Porc-Moe Ross-Moe, Charmoeleon, Moe-ki, Moe-nion, Ne-Moe, and Pinocchi-Moe.Will I keep this up next year? Unlikely! I have run out of ridiculous puns.
0155 - Jebidiah Springfield Statue
This counts as a full character because he talks to Bart through the latter half of this episode, with lip-sync and everything! And of course, it is far more recognisable than most of the characters that we even cover here, appearing in the town square of Springfield. I think if you were to ask a random fan to name Springfield locations, this statue would come up pretty quickly. The decapitation of the statue is the most famous thing about it, so much so that Jimbo and Kearney recreate it in the HD intro, despite their disgust at it in The Tellta...
0154 - Snowball II
Snowball II appeared long before this episode, with a "line" even, in the first episode:But I'm including her here because of the little noise she makes in Bart's stealth sequence, and also because it seemed wrong that Santa's Little Helper had an entry but not the cat:It took me years to get the joke that Snowball II is named after a white cat, Snowball, but is black, so her name makes no sense. It's a thinker, at least when you're 5.If you're a classic-Simpsons-only viewer, you might not realise that Snowball i...
Moevember, Week 3!
Moe. Moe. Moe.Here we have El-moe, Moe-fessor Frink, Moe-rothy Gale, Scare-Moe, Iron Moe, Moe-star Runner, Tomat-Moe, Danny Zuk-Moe and Moe-by Dick. Are these puns getting worse or better?
BONUS! Guy Getting Stabbed and Ninja Bart
I am stretching the plausibility of this silly project here, huh?He gets status as a bonus character because he...uh...has no lines. But if he did have a line it would probably be "argh" or perhaps "ugh".Also I drew Ninja Bart for fun. This post is part of my "Every Simpsons Character Ever" series. For a list of my rules in this project, click here.
0153 - Bill Dandy
Do not worry folks, I went back and checked - this is NOT Mr Chupo, the candy store employee from Bart The Hero. They clearly look different, and they spell and pronounce their names differently. Springfield is a town with two dedicated candy stores, which make sense in a way.The Telltale Head features Bill biggest role:But I've gone and done that thing where I attempt to locate him in other episodes:"Homer vs Lisa and the 8th Commandment" (I'm not 100% sure this is him, but look at all these other familiar faces! Howard's M...
Do The Artman Digital Download
My Simpsons art zine "Do The Artman" is now available as a PDF! Download it here! This is a collection of my Simpsons themed paintings and pieces - you may have seen some of them before (some of them have been prints!) but there are some new exclusive pieces. I hope you enjoy them!If you'd like a physical copy, it is available on my store along with my new comic "Cosmo the Stoat"! Or you can pick up a copy from my table at Thought Bubble Festival this weekend!
0152 - Apu Nahasapeemapetilon
Apu is probably the most significant character that we had not gotten to yet. Well today is finally his day to shine!I think the reason it has taken this long to get to him is that his role shifts drastically after the first season or two. We know Apu as a mainstay, taking a prominent role in the Simpson family's lives, but this is not how he began - at first he is merely the guy who works at the Kwik-E-Mart, and any relationship between our main characters and the guy who works at the convenience store might seem silly. The show even acknow...
Patreon Print - November 2022
The poll has spoken! This month's print will be "Powerful Like A Gorilla, Yet Soft And Yielding Like A Nerf Ball"!If you'd like this piece delivered straight to your door as an A5 print, be a £10 or higher patron for this month! It'll be sent out early in December. And of course feel free to get in touch if you have any questions! Thanks for your support!
Moevember, Week 2!
Another week, another round of Moes! This time we have Vincent Van Moe, Moe-nel Sanders, Moe-nald McDonald, Moe-d Runner, Moe-boas Fünke, Moe-key Mouse, Moe-nald Duck, Shrek the Moe-gre and Indiana Moe-ns!Hope you're enjoying the moe-dness!
0151 - Cinema Manager
Considering how prominent the Aztec Theater is in Springfield (I'd say it's a b-list location), it's surprising that this guy is a one time appearance. Most of the time when we see employees at this particular cinema, they are some form of squeaky voiced teen, and by season 7's "King-Size Homer" we are introduced to a different cinema manager completely (we'll get to him when we get to him.)Perhaps I'm horribly mistaken and this gentleman isn't even a manager. I hope he returns some day for a full backstory.Th...
0150 - Actor
I love when the milestone numbers sync up with total nobodies. The actors from Space Mutants 4: The Trilogy Continues must have terrible agents, because they don't show up in any of the show's many other fictional films. Thanks for joining me for 150 characters! It's so absurd that we've gotten this far, and even more absurd that we still have 700+ episodes to cover. This post is part of my "Every Simpsons Character Ever" series. For a list of my rules in this project, click here.
November 2022 Print - Vote For Your Favourite Design!
It's that time once again! Vote for your favourite design and I'll decide the Patron Print based on this poll!If this is your first vote, it's pretty simple! Vote for the design you want as the Patreon print this month, and first/second places will get their time in the sun this month and next!I thought I'd include a couple of non-Simpsons designs again, as well as finally doing a Moevember design ('tis the season after all.) If you have any questions hit me up, otherwise here are the candidates!"Breach""Moevembe...
Moevember, Week 1!
It's the moe-sssst wonderful time of the year! Some of you remember Moevember, a drawing challenge where I post a different Moe every day this month, from last year. If you don't, here's a handy dandy thread of it all!Well I've decided to do it again this year! And you lucky patron folk will get to see them all early! So here we have Moe-stache, Bil-Moe Baggins, Jack-Moe-Lantern, Moebius, Moe-bocop, Moe-nic the Hedgehog, Dr Moe-botnik, Cos-moe the Stoat, Rhin-moe and Vit-Moe Corleone!Stay tunes next week for more of this nonsense...
0149 - Actor
Happy Halloween! Let's celebrate with a spooooky look at Springfield's in-universe horror franchise! I totally planned this and the date lining up was definitely on purpose! This is one of two actors who appears in Space Mutants 4: The Trilogy Continues. In the film, they are eaten by a space mutant. Our glimpses of these films imply little happens in the plot, merely that people are attacked constantly by space mutants, like some sort of intergalactic snuff film. This is actually the second appearance of the Space Mutants franchise, we fi...
0148 - Dolph Starbeam
Another surprise surname, as revealed in season 18's "24 Minutes", so I did a little digging...and it's messy, which is what we like to see."Starbeam" seems to come from the fact that Dolph's parents were hippies, although I have not found the episode that reveals this. We see his father beat up Homer in Moes, and his mother appears to be Starla, the woman who Kirk dates shortly after his divorce.A later episode reveals Dolph's surname could be "Shapiro".Dolph reveals that he goes to Hebrew school in seas...
0147 - Kearney Zzyzwicz
I've known some of these characters most of my life, and they still find ways to surprise me. Zzyzwicz? Who knew? I keep having to check the spelling every time I encounter it.The most noteworthy thing about Kearney is his age, apparently being an adult man who still attends high school. In season 13 he tells us he is a teenager and the father of a teenager, which is somewhat dark if you analyse it too closely, so let's not do that. The show seems to have settled on him being 27, which is also a bit creepy considering he spends his days...
0146 - Jimbo Jones
Corky James Jones, or Jimbo as we generally know him, is a character whose purpose will shift depending on what character's point of view we see him from.To Bart, or any of the younger characters, Jimbo is a threat, a menace, the top of the food chain. He is an unsurpassable obstacle, a force of nature, a necessary part of the schoolyard ecosystem. He exists to terrorise those beneath him, and that makes him scary to the viewer, even if in real terms we know he's not that dangerous. But from an adult's perspective, he's just some...
0145 - Churchgoer
The lynchpin of the show's central thesis hinges on this character, I can't believe we've finally gotten to her:You see, in a true study of 20th century Americana, no exploration is fully complete without a look into...nah I'm just messing with you. This is a one-time nobody.I do like when I get a character only visible from an angle like this and have to imagine what they might look like from the front, it's an interesting exercise.I hope you all didn't miss Monte Carlo night last night. Incidentally, Monte Carlo is a s...
BONUS! Church Outfits
As this is the first time in the show that the Simpsons attend church, this is the first time we see these recognisable outfits, which are pretty consistent throughout the show. A couple of notes:- slicking down Bart's hair like that really makes me question how it works exactly. The spikes appear to usually be protruding from the end of a cylindrical head, but here they appear to two rows of spikes, which can be organised with a straight parting through the middle. Yes, I know I'm overthinking it but a) I'm an artist, I think visua...
0144 - Ms Albright
I'm not even sure I knew she had a name until now:Albright's appearance is consistent throughout, although she loses her glasses (probably misses her old glasses.) She's not really a character outside of Sunday school, her role is for children's funny religion observations to bounce off her. I can see her being the straight man in a newspaper strip, many of the jokes based around her are simple little gags where Bart is questioning the logistics of the Bible. At some point between now and the season 6 episode "Bart's Girl...
0143 - Angry Man
This guy appears just after the last entry, and although the lip sync is a bit more sketchy for him, I am still giving him pride of place in the hallowed halls of this stupid project:I think these two are noteworthy because while this is the show's first big angry mob (first of many), it is already filled with familiar faces with speaking roles. Burns, Krusty, Barney, Skinner, Dr Monroe, Otto and Krabappel, some of whom have not shown up since their first appearance, pipe up from the crowd ready to kill Bart. Even Patty, Selma and Abe are a...
0142 - Angry Man
We're doing three updates this week as these next too seem far too insignificant to stretch out too long.I actually almost missed this character on my initial watch through - he appears for less than a second before Homer turns his head and blocks him, this screenshot was difficult to grab. It's debatable that he is even the character that says "It's too long!", but I believe the lip sync matches up enough for me to make this call. Additionally, his voice is not recognisable as any of our regular Springfieldians, so I'm s...
Cosmo the Stoat Digital Download
My new comic, Cosmo the Stoat, is now available as a PDF! Check the attachment.Cosmo the Stoat is an homage to the Sonic comics of the 1990s, and asks the question: What happens when the hero's glory days are behind him? Several years after his greatest victory, Cosmo is struggling to find purpose - can he grow up and move on with life? Can he repair the relationships left in his dust? And just who is the Walrus of Time?I hope you enjoy it.If you'd like a physical copy, it should be available for pre-order on my store today along with m...
