duel!
Two artificers face off. The orange one works for the government, the green one is independent. This isn't a duel to the death (probably) just a fight to see who's getting out of who's way.
style experiments 1
After Stratus fizzled out, I knew I wanted to make more comics. But I didn't want to run into the same issue of inconsistent art styles. So I decided to do a bunch of style experiments and minicomics... This is the first of those.This guy is a radio operator for the government. You can see a little post-it in the first panel that says "martial law." I think I had some kind of rebellion in mind, not that any of these have fully-formed plots.

I really liked this painted style I had going, but I had no idea what I was doing. I couldn't pinpoint the stylistic choices I was making, and couldn't reproduce it. So I tried to change the style, to make it a bit cleaner and more uniform. This was a bad move... you'll see just how bad in the next page.

I adore the first panel- I'm still a fan of the color choices.This was also before I really knew how to use art software. Figuring out how to do those bricks in the last panel was an adventure. You can really tell, but they're all on a jumble of different layers... it's a mess.

And you know what, I think it still holds up. The first and last panels are my favorite. This scene is inspired by something very specific: in Laputa: Castle in the Sky, when the Goliath (big airship) is bombarding Laputa (floating city). ...I think you can see where the similarity is.
