Masterwork Tools post Dungeon Stone Large Curved With Exterior Walls from patreon

Dungeon Stone Large Curved With Exterior Walls

With exterior orthogonal walls for the large curved set, structurally, the set is now complete. You can create nearly any tile with walls inside and outside, using doors or windows, which should give you the ability to create nearly any structure that uses a 12 or 16 square diameter curved surface. With all the interior orthogonal wall options and exterior orthogonal wall options, I think the best idea for these tiles is you should have a good idea of the room you want to build up front. There's a lot of options, and the number of possible c...

Masterwork Tools post February 2020 Tile Voting from patreon

February 2020 Tile Voting

I'm continuing to try and make understanding the tile sets easier. Now all the normal tile sets have their own tile trees with their progress in the tree marked off. Hopefully this makes the status of each tile set much clearer. I still need to do the same thing for thick wall (caverns, etc) sets, but there's less to go from on those sets, so I'm still thinking about what the tile tree will look like for them.Another minor change, I've now fully split standard tiles from thick wall tiles, but this left the scatter option in an o...

Masterwork Tools post Places of Power: Well of Souls from patreon

Places of Power: Well of Souls

Next up in the OpenForge "Places of Power" series, we bring you the Well of Souls! Places of Power is a series Evan is doing to create LARGE, central set-pieces for RPG or skirmish/war games. The Well of Souls is an elvish structure built over the top of a deep, cylindrical chasm extending down into the earth. Though it's thousands of years old, the stone has withstood time and the elements, and has barely a scratch on it - while the rock it is built upon slowly cracks and erodes.A bridge an etched platform extend over the well, and ...

Masterwork Tools post Boss Door from patreon

Boss Door

This is the next in the 3d printing take on Black Magic Craft's 5 starter projects. This time around I'm doing my take on the Boss Door. We have 3 different doors here, along with an archway.Further, this release is both scatter (like the door from BMC), but I also made them work as separate wall and wall on tile walls. For scatter, each piece is 4 inches wide. For the tiles, each door has 4 inch wide and 2 inch wide version. This project reused the dwarven door from Evan, along with some files derived from game-icons.net.Grab the files ...

Masterwork Tools post Cut-Stone Stairs from patreon

Cut-Stone Stairs

Cut-Stone was the first set I did stairs with, but the old stair set was not really optimized for play, it was optimized for look. Well, since then I've gotten both Dungeon Stone and Towne stairs out using the more playable standard that also gives you access to risers for having boards with different heights. It was time to come back to Cut-Stone to bring the new stairs models full circle back to the beginning.Grab the files on Thingiverse and let us know what you think in the comments!

Masterwork Tools post Towne Separate Wall Doors from patreon

Towne Separate Wall Doors

Note: for some reason Thingiverse deleted all but a few of the files. I've re-uploaded to thingiverse in zip files. Sorry for the problem.First release this month took a fair bit of time, which is why it's so late in the month. We've got the towne separate wall doors, which was this month's top voted item, coming to 121 files to get all the wall variations with all the connection system variations. This isn't just a straight port of the rectangular doors to this set. We've added some new gems to it. The two things that we...

Masterwork Tools post January 2020 Tile Voting from patreon

January 2020 Tile Voting

I've done a lot of rework on the voting form. First off to get it all to align to the OpenForge Tile Tree, but also to simplify a number of things.Secondarily, this is a time to check in and see what all people are using. This is mostly curiosity, as the vote directs me to what's most important to people, but I would like to get a picture of what kinds of textures and tile types people are using. I try and only do this once a year just to get an idea of where the patrons are at on this stuff. Finally, I'm checking to see what people ...

OpenForge Resources

2024/02/14 - Refreshed Dropbox linkThe old link was allowing editing and as a result a patron deleted some files out of the dropbox. No harm was done, and I've restored the files, but I did generate new links: OpenForge/OpenForge.Rename(They are also updated below)2023/03/21 - Pro Acryl DiscountsOver the past year, I've become pretty enamored of Pro-Acryl paints. They've become my primary paint for miniatures, and increasingly I've been using them for details or really anything other than the main base coat for my terrain/tiles....

Masterwork Tools post Dungeon Stone Full Pillars from patreon

Dungeon Stone Full Pillars

After the last set of pillars, people started asking me for some Dungeon Stone ones as well. Like that set, this was inspired initially by Black Magic Craft's 5 starter projects video.Grab the files on Thingiverse and let us know what you think!

Masterwork Tools post Cut-Stone Large Curved from patreon

Cut-Stone Large Curved

This set includes walls and low walls for cut stone in the following format: 4x4 with a 2x2 notch 6x6 made from 12 tiles for a full circle, with space for 17 2x2 tiles that are open in the center. 8x8 made from 12 tiles for a full circle, with space for 32 2x2 tiles that are open in the center. This set also has the concave floors, so you can set these curved on square tiles with the curve running through the middle. This was the top voted item for December.Grab the files on Thingiverse and let us know what you think!

Masterwork Tools post Dungeon Stone Trap Walls from patreon

Dungeon Stone Trap Walls

I've been debating with myself for months now how to produce tiles for traps, and earlier this month, I realized, I already have an approach, at least for walls, that makes swapping the wall out easy - secret doors. So I set about building some fun traps using the removable wall approach that is compatible with secret doors. We have a number of different trap options here: Fire trap Gas trap A wall mounted hole that can be used for a variety of traps (and is the basis for both the fire and gas traps) Swinging axe trap (You can also glue in m...

Masterwork Tools post Ancient Sword Statue from patreon

Ancient Sword Statue

New from Evan, we have an ancient sword statue! This relic has stood embedded in the ground for ages untold. Was it part of a huge now-buried statue? A weapon of an ancient construct? Or something else entirely. He intentionally left this model with limited detail around the base - it has some rocky terrain, but I wanted to be able to add some flock and decorative pieces. There's two versions of the STL - one "regular" one and one overgrown one with some vines on it. Both print as a single piece, supportless. Please note that Evan des...

Masterwork Tools post Votes spreadsheet from patreon

Votes spreadsheet

First two comments were wanting to see how the votes translated into choices. It's actually linked in the spreadsheet that is linked in the top of the form. The very last tab of the spreadsheet is "2019 votes", which breaks down all the votes from every month. Finished items get crossed off, and the month they got finished is highlighted.Next year I'll move that into it's own spreadsheet so that it's easier to find, separate from the tile registry (which also needs a big update)

Masterwork Tools post December Voting from patreon

December Voting

I've continued to rework the voting a little. I've now entirely separated the standard tile sets (dungeon stone, cut stone, ruined stone, tudor, city streets) from the thick wall (mainly underground) tile sets (cavern sets, dwarven halls, sewer when we get there). Most months, I'll take the top vote getter from both and make that into two of the releases. If I have something pressing that I want to get out (like say the initial pieces of a new set to get it up to usability) I may only do one that month. After the end of the year, I m...

Masterwork Tools post New paint tutorial up: Mine Doors from patreon

New paint tutorial up: Mine Doors

I just banged out a new painting tutorial. This one covers the mine doors, which will show you the paint scheme for the red-brown stone used in the mine tiles, as well as my current wood grain approach.

Masterwork Tools post Mine Doors from patreon

Mine Doors

With this release, the mine (as well as the conglomerate caves) should be pretty functional as a set. We now have doors, embedded in wooden walls.Grab the files on Thingiverse and let us know what you think!

Masterwork Tools post Dungeon Stone Timber Framed Rectangular Doors from patreon

Dungeon Stone Timber Framed Rectangular Doors

This release we've got a new set of doors for Dungeon Stone. The timber framed rectangle doors have finally been ported to the set. This was one of the top vote getters this month. Traps beat it by one vote, but that set is going to take more design time, so I though I would knock off the next one down. I won't be traveling so much next month, so I can probably get those done then. This set has walls with doors, as well as the segments for dungeon stone modular corners. Not pictured, there's also a wood grain set of doors for this se...

Masterwork Tools post The Bells of Daybreak from patreon

The Bells of Daybreak

Looks like today is a release day :-) Evan made a fantastic new model in the Places of Power series: Bells of Daybreak! Places of Power is a series he's doing to create LARGE, central set-pieces for RPG or skirmish/war games. The Bells of Daybreak is a huge wooden and steel structure full of bells of various sizes and shape. Nobody knows who built it, or why it's out here - but it's been standing untouched for ages. Nobody has heard the bells ring for millennia ... but that could be changing soon!I started out to build a single bell ...

Masterwork Tools post Cut-Stone Full Pillars from patreon

Cut-Stone Full Pillars

It's been a long time since I did some real pillars. Not the small ones on tiles that are really just an internal corner, but real pillars. The last time I did some was in 2013. Well, I was recently watching Black Magic Craft about 5 starter projects, and I thought it would be fun to bang out the objects OpenForge doesn't have from that recommended starter set. I chatted with BMC, and he was down with it. I did Dungeon Stackers last year, and obviously we already have floors, so after this it's free standing doors and standalone rui...

Masterwork Tools post November Vote from patreon

November Vote

It's that time again, voting for November.A couple of notes. I added the necromancer's lair back in for voting. I never managed to get it out, so I figure that it should get back into the voting pool. Sorry. This month is going to be tight. Black Friday is go time at work, and I have a week long business trip as well. What that means on a practical basis is that this month, I probably won't be tackling any of the real big jobs like say a new texture. I expect this month to mostly focus on getting incremental tiles out for various se...

Masterwork Tools post Dungeon Stone Arrow Slits from patreon

Dungeon Stone Arrow Slits

This is one of those tiles that I've been meaning to get released for dungeon stone. We have arrow slit walls, but also segments for modular dungeon stone corners.Grab the files on Thingiverse and let us know what you think!

Masterwork Tools post Mines Release 2: Mine Cart Floors from patreon

Mines Release 2: Mine Cart Floors

Now we've got the next part of mines: mine floors. I've also reworked the paint scheme, and I'm much happier with it. I'll try and release a tutorial soon.Grab the files on Thingiverse and let us know what you think!

Masterwork Tools post Mine walls from patreon

Mine walls

The vote was pretty overwhelming this month, you all wanted to see more caves, but wanted a new set. The winning set was mine tiles. This is the first in this set. We've got mine walls, both with and without support beams, and corners. The support beams I think really add a great visual dimension to this set. They attach magnetically, so they are quick to remove if they are in the way, and will otherwise stay put.Grab the files on Thingiverse and let us know what you think in the comments!

Masterwork Tools post Trojan Bunny from patreon

Trojan Bunny

New from OpenForge today Evan brings you a highly effective, time tested siege weapon design - the Trojan Bunny! Lull your enemies into complacency with this amazing piece of art! They will be so excited they will throw a huge revelry and drink themselves into a stupor! Then leap out and slaughter everybody in sight! (assuming you remembered to get inside the bunny, of course). The OpenForge Trojan Bunny prints in 3 pieces, the top, main body, and door. The top and body glue together with some alignment tabs, and the door is inserted small-tabs ...

Masterwork Tools post October Tile Voting from patreon

October Tile Voting

Some changes made to the tile voting this month. I pulled together the cave voting, and made the options simpler. I've also added reference photos of each tile type. Voting will close next monday.NEW NOTE PLEASE READ:I have reduced the number of things that can be voted on. Instead, I'm reflecting the process of how I do these by having certain options unlock other options. If an options has | Unlocks after the idea, that communicates that after this tile has been done, I'll add the next in the list in future votes. If I eliminated ...

Masterwork Tools post Dry Cave 2: Conglomerate Basics from patreon

Dry Cave 2: Conglomerate Basics

To finish getting the Dry Cave set bootstrapped, we've now got the basics for the conglomerate texture. This set has a few new pieces for the limestone texture as well. We've got: Conglomerate walls (1x1, 2x1, 3x1, 4x1) Conglomerate corners (90 and 270 degrees) Conglomerate to Limestone transition wall (2x1) Conglomerate outcrop Limestone outcrop 2When I send out the poll for October, I'm going to change how I do dry cave, to focus the voting more around sub sets (like this and the prior release) instead of on the specific tiles.Grab...

Masterwork Tools post Rough/Ruined Updated from patreon

Rough/Ruined Updated

Top vote this month was to get Rough/Ruined Wall on Tile sets all updated to current. I've gone through everything in the set and tweaked it, added tiles, resized, etc to get the rough and ruined set updated to current. They are now in dropbox (in all three sizes), and have been updated on Thingiverse.Grab the files on Thingiverse: Floors Walls Corners Diagonal Curved Doors WindowsNow this set should be ready to receive updates!

Masterwork Tools post Dry Caves Release 1: The Basics from patreon

Dry Caves Release 1: The Basics

Last month, as you know, I published the Cave Entrance. I got lots of positive feedback, and decided to start working on some caves to go behind it. Rather than do my normal release approach of walls, floors and corners are different releases, I'm instead releasing a variety of pieces, but without the full set of possible pieces. There are two textures that I've got in the dry caves so far. One for a soft rock that erodes smoothly, and one for a harder conglomerate that has lots of jumbly bits. I've released here a bunch of walls and...

Masterwork Tools post Icy Dragon Skull Cave Entrance from patreon

Icy Dragon Skull Cave Entrance

The giant dragon skull is embedded in the ice, with room for some minis on the ice shelf in front. The stairs descend into nothingness below. This item prints in 1 piece and is 100% support-less and VERY quick/easy to slap a few colors of paint on and get a good result. A nice coat of gloss varnish makes the ice shine really well!Evan is currently running a Kickstarter focused on arctic, tundra, and the icy north - and wanted to make a few pieces focused on that area to complement. He already released the Crystal Shard a few weeks ago, and toda...

Masterwork Tools post September Tile Voting from patreon

September Tile Voting

I've removed necromancer's lair, because I'm already working on it from last month. I've also added dry cave, because I got positive feedback on the idea that the cave entrance should be the starting point for a new tile set.Voting will remain open until next weds.
