Yuko's gone all digital for Barbarous-- one of the things she'll do if she's drawing multiple overlapping figures is change up the pencil color so it's easier to keep track. Percy's neighbors are fun because they're meant to be kinetic and to overlap as often as possible.

Top is the roughs for page 1 of chapter 2! Bottom is an example of color notes for our colorist, J. N. Wiedle (http://helvetica.jnwiedle.com/, and you can support them on patreon as well: https://www.patreon.com/helvetica/).Not every page is like this-- typically Yuko will do color keys, light sources and rough shading on the first page of a scene and then the rest will be much simpler. This took a lot of planning! The figures were drawn on a separate layer than the background, and additionally Yuko had to be wary of the safe zones for print.

Working with Jones!
So you've probably noticed that we're working with Jones as a colorist! We wanted to share what part of that process is like. Each frame is about 5 seconds, so be sure to wait!1. inks2. very rough color blocking. Yuko does this for the first page of a scene-- the rest of the pages are more spare.3. notes for Jones! these can get pretty comprehensive, and pretty repetitive...4. reference material-- if yuko has an aesthestic she's trying to evoke, she'll include it as a separate layer. This can be paintings, photos... whatever doe...
