Filming today!
You guuuuys, I have to change Office Hours to tomorrow at 10am because we had to switch days for filming My Immortal.Initially, we were supposed to film tomorrow, but the weather is nice and overcast today. Tomorrow it will be sunny, and that's too happy for My Immortal. Hehe. We want to experiment with natural light. The other fun thing is we're filming at my parent's house because my mom has a piano with... hmmm... "Piano de cola", it's called. Which translates into "Piano with Butt"... That doesn't sound ri...

New Cover Video - Sinking Ships
Here it is! You guuuuuys, thank you for helping me do this. To hire a film professional PhD person to finally break the old pattern of vids.I feel like a new person.I'm so glad that for this song in particular, we were able to make something that I feel fits the song better and hopefully retains the mood of the original.Thank you, thank you, thank you!!!24milímetros did a fantastic job with the direction and editing, I feel.Hugs to you all,Malu
September Extra Video
It's still September in Mexico! hahaha! Cutting it close. But here's the extra video. It was fun to film this with Thor and Omi out in the backyard.I've wanted to try this approach since Omi got a steady cam thingie for the iPhone. A gimble? I think that's what it's called.I Maloofused the audio because I set a small portable recorder I have, BUT I forgot to put the windscreen on. So, you'll get to hear some wind. hahaha! I'll fix that next time.Thank you for watching!Another post coming soon. The new cover is out tom...
When Art Inspires Art
Hey guys!I've set the release date for the new cover, Sinking Ships by Trees of Eternity, for Monday, October 1st. Can't wait for you to hear it!I wanted to post the string arrangement I wrote for it on its own. I listened to it solo this afternoon and it transported me. I love how it can clearly remind me of the song, but it can also stand on its own as an individual piece.I absolutely love it when music inspires more music. I never would have created this arrangement if it weren't for the original song. I love that I get to keep t...

Extra Video - August: Journey
Hey guys!I'm not sure why I haven't released a cover of "Born for This" on YouTube. I love this song. I worked on an arrangement years ago, yet somehow didn't get to the point of filming and publishing.Back then, I made this quick video to see if I could get through the song in one take. I am curious to hear the difference now that I've taken vocal lessons... There are technique things I hear in this that I hope I have since fixed.Anyhoo... I'm rambling. Born for This is still a song I hope to cover on YouTube. Hope ...
July Extra Video
Update: sorryyyyy! I uploaded the wrong video file with the whole show. Now, it's fixed so it's just the song.Hey guys!I hope you're well. :) Welcome to the folks that have joined Patreon recently because of The Bard's Song! The extra video I'm sharing this month is a live performance of a song that I cowrote with my sweet friend Natalie Nicole Gilbert. The story goes... I'd just downloaded World of Warcraft to check out the game. Supposed to be part of my "research" as an aspiring composer. This marked my return to...
The Next Cover - Voting Results!
You guys... I'd like to officially announce that the winning song for the next YouTube cover is..........Sinking Ships! That's awesome! The vote was open (not based on a specific list) and Sinking Ships received 4 votes. The Sound of Silence was in 2nd place with 2 votes. The rest of the list is full of other songs I'd love to cover at some point. We will vote again in the future!Since the original version of Sinking Ships features guitar primarily, I'm thinking it would be cool to do a piano cover of it.This could also be a grea...
It's done. The Bard's Song video is LIVE!
Thank you so much for keeping me company through the process and the struggles of making this cover. It means a lot to me. <3Big hug from Mexico,Malu
Fixing Several Things :)
So many silly mistakes on my part these last couple of days... I'm debating whether I need a good night's sleep or an ice-cold Margarita.Thankfully, the mistakes are all fixable! I talk about The Bard's Song in the video.Speaking of which, yesterday I posted something publicly here, which was meant for a specific pledge tier only. Oopsies. My bad. I apologize for the email that was automatically sent. And to hopefully make up for that, here's a link to download the final mix of The Bard's Song that the email talked about.htt...

Office Hours - Warning: Read Below
UPDATE: You guys, if you are watching later... I considered deleting this stream because so many things went wrong. It took me a long time to be able to start and then there were computer issues, audio mystery issues, etc, etc. I'm leaving it on anyway in case you still want to watch, but it's understandable if you prefer to skip. Hehe! Thanks to everyone that was there and that stayed there throughout the chaos!MaluStop by for some music chatting and stuff!Hugs,Malu
Learning FTW
As I was preparing the extra song of the month to share, I decided to test out my newly improved mastering skills. The results will shock you.(Not really, I was just able to improve the sound, as I hoped. hahaha!)But I was so surprised myself that I wanted to share the comparison with you.Thank you for the opportunities you help me find. <3Endless Hugs,Malu
Extra Video - June
A few of my friends from childhood grew up to be Teachers. They invited me to sing "Heal the World" for their school's Earth Day celebration. It was such a sweet moment. I shared a picture of it when it happened, but not the video. Here it is. It was so heartwarming to be there. I almost went to ask if they could give me a job as a music teacher. Some day. #goalsHugs,Future Miss Malu
Check-In: June 12, 2018
Helloooooo! Here's the latest.Hugs,Malu
Oh, Take Me Back to the Start
Here we go. Take 2. The old vinyl floor is getting removed in order to install a new one. This time, they’re going to install it without the acoustic material underneath because as we found out, it tends to lift and warp the poor vinyl.

I am looking forward to finally installing the new sit and stand desk that I got recently! It will hopefully be a much more efficient way to record. Singing while standing is definitely so much more comfortable than sitting and hunched over. Hehe.

I will probably have to wait until Thursday to ...
Vokul Fen Mah with Peter Hollens
I was so surprised when Peter wrote to ask if I'd like to record an a capella version of this original song of mine with him for his channel. Of course I said yes!Hope you enjoy this version. (And I must say, it's super weird to have an original covered by someone else. hahaha! Weird in an awesome way!). Did Jeremy Soule feel that with all of the covers we all made of his music on YouTube? hahaha! Maybe. It was wonderful to work with Peter and his team. Special thanks to Omi for helping me film my half of the video.Yaaaaaay!Hugs,Malu
Soon... as in, today in a little while...
Wooooo! I can't wait!!! Peter is posting this video on his channel only.I'll send you a link when it's published.
Malukah Green Screen PhD
We finished filming the collaboration with Peter Hollens today! Many thanks to Omi for not only controlling the camera, but also controlling my flyaway hairs. Hahaha.I can totally understand why professional musicians who make professional videos have a stylist on set. It seems that after every take, there was something to fix with my hair. And then after we finished everything and I took the footage to the computer, I realized that I had a little tiny dot of mascara smudged under my eye. Oops. But, it was fun! :D I’m still not sure when this ...
