Class Fantasy RPG
It’s finally here — the perfect gift for your Maoist-Third Worldist nephew, doomsday prepper divorced dad or Q Anon yoga mom. For the past year, I’ve been tirelessly designing and play-testing a new MORPG (multi-player offline role playing game).Class Fantasy is an action RPG card game that pairs fantasy character classes with political ideologies. The game accommodates 2 - 12 players. Your goal is to defeat other characters in battle and achieve utopia. A limited supply is now available for purchase. Finally, a game that unites the whole...

Enter the Dark Forest
If you’ve managed to find your way here, you are likely familiar with the Dark Forest Theory of the Internet. You may not yet know it by name but you know it by vibe. Dark Forests are online gathering spaces that are non-indexed, non-optimized and hidden from public view. They are typically hosted in Discords, Telegram, WhatsApp Groups, and other private channels where conversations feel private and contextually safe.A few years ago, big social media platforms (aka the Clear Net) began to erode under the toxic design of the attention economy....

Literally every link from the Twitch stream in 2023
Wishing you all a very happy 2024! This is our year and we’re all gonna make it (screenshot this).I started Twitch streaming in 2020. A big part of this project has been sorting out the signal from noise amidst the chaos of extremely online culture. Many memes, posts and think pieces are dismissable content but some of them matter a lot. In fact, some of them indicate important political and cultural shifts that could otherwise be overlooked. In the spirit of this project, I’m sharing a giant list of links from every Twitch stream in 2023. My Book Recommendations 🎄🎁
People always ask me for book recommendations around this time of year. This December, I’m most excited for the debut book by Amber Frost: Dirtbag (2023).In 2020, I left my teaching jobs at prestigious universities, like the School of Visual Arts and the Rhode Island School of Design, to pursue my own path outside of traditional institutions. Since then I’ve published a syllabus of readings, links, and video materials about once or twice a year.I designed and taught these classes in the academy. This is the same material that you would othe...

What I'm Reading
Tár (2022) directed by Todd FieldSocial media has wreaked havoc on cultural institutions. Unfounded allegations pushed out a revered Guggenheim curator. The Phillip Guston debacle led museums to doubt the intellect of their visitors. But despite the frequency and prevalence of these controversies, the theme has gone largely unrepresented in film, literature, etc. Tár is the first film that addresses this unfolding crisis from an elite insider perspective. The main character is a talented but tyrannical conductor in the Berlin Philharmonic. Th...

e-deologies V, 2023
E-deology is an internet slang term used to describe complex ideological labels. These hyper-specific categories serve as a gamified form of identity play and niche personal branding in the chaotic landscape of online politics.Libertarian Georgist HoppeanismGeorgism is an economic philosophy that advocates for the privatization of property and the socialization of land. Natural monopolies and resources are managed as public utilities, often redistributed as a basic income, while businesses are operated by individuals. Hoppeanism is anti-democra...

Platform Wars (part 4): A Public Option for Social Media
Welcome to StateBook. A Public Option for Social Media.Beginning these debates over ten years ago, I used to joke that the United States should nationalize FaceBook and make it a division of the Post Office. If this was ever truly an option in the past, it seems highly implausible now. But the underlying provocation rings true and is more necessary than ever.So long as big monolithic platforms are privately owned and operated, lawmakers will perpetually operate decades behind new innovations and their downstream negative consequences. The good ...
