RetroArch 1.7.7 – Experimental alpha version of UWP/Xbox One version!
The buildbot is doing round 2 of the 1.7.7 release rollout. Please be aware that this is very early days - and read all about it in this blog article -https://www.libretro.com/index.php/retroarch-1-7-7-experimental-alpha-version-of-uwpxbox-one-version/
Reicast WinCE Libretro – Experimental core released!
NOTE: You can read the full article here on our website -https://www.libretro.com/index.php/reicast-wince-libretro-experimental-core-released/Courtesy of flyinghead, today we’re releasing a special version of Reicast with Windows CE support enabled! Our reason for releasing this is that we want users to report back as many issues as possible so the kinks can be ironed out. What’s this about?Windows CE was an option available to Dreamcast developers that made it much easier to port their game from PC to Dreamcast. Windows CE is/was a subset o...
(Upcoming) RetroArch 1.7.7 - RGUI Particle effect animation system!
Courtesy of jdgleaver -Introducing the concept of RGUI particle effects. Basically, you get 256 particles to play with, each consisting of 4 float variables with which you can do as you please. This is very crude and simplistic, but it's also quite flexible and adding new effects is a fairly trivial exercise. From a user's perspective, the current Snow option has been removed and replaced with a new Background Animation setting under User Interface, Appearance. This can be disabled, or set to one of the following:Snow (Light): This is th...

What you see above is a real-time screenshot being taken from a Proof of Concept build. What you see is the game being paused, a screenshot being taken of the game screen. A website to browse the libretro database – db.libretro.com
A new website is now available at db.libretro.com.db.libretro.com is an online database of video games. It is generated from the exact same game database that is used in RetroArch for scanning your game collection.Compiling a database of all the existing games is not an easy task. Thanks to the hard work of no-intro and other preservation teams, libretro-database was started on a very solid basis. However, as we are adding more and more sources of games, maintaining a high level of quality has become a challenge. We hope that this new tool will ...

Experimental Vulkan and X11 Lakka 2.2 builds for x86_64
So far nvidia PC GPUs were supported by Lakka through nouveau open-source drivers.Unfortunately, these drivers are nowhere as complete as Intel or AMD ones, so while having some advantages (DRM/KMS support, no X Server) this approach has major drawbacks, for example: poor 3D performance no support for recent GPUs no VulkanBecause of the above, PCs with nvidia GPUs were not a good target for Lakka. To overcome the limitations and unleash full potential of these GPUs, the following new experimental builds of Lakka for x86_64 are now available fro...

New Vulkan graphics enhancements features in Beetle PSX HW!
<figure>Final Fantasy IX – SSAA at 1x internal resolution with CRT Royale</figure><figure>Final Fantasy IX – SSAA at 8x internal resolution with CRT Royale</figure>MDEC YUV filteringPlayStation used a special unit called the MDEC to decode full motion videos instead of relying on software rendering (like the Saturn). These videos were encoded in YUV macroblocks and had to be converted from YCbCr to RGB so that the PSX can output the final image to the screen. A common issue with PlayStation emulators is that the chroma channel generally sho...

(Upcoming) RetroArch 1.7.6 - Resolution selection! (Windows)
We have implemented a dropdown list of all the available resolutions that your display server currently supports. You can select a resolution from this list and it will change the output resolution, and it will even change the refresh rate accordingly. So you will be able to jump from 4K 60Hz to 1440p 120Hz if your video card and TV/monitor allows for it on the fly! Hopefully this is far more convenient than having to manually set the fullscreen width/height manually inside Video Settings.Note that this is currently implemented for Windows only...
Reicast Libretro Atomiswave support!
Thanks to flyinghead, Reicast Libretro has now gained Sammy Atomiswave support! Sammy Atomiswave was an arcade system board based on the Dreamcast/Sega NAOMI hardware. A lot of SNK Playmore’s flagship games transitioned from the ageing Neo-Geo hardware to the much more modern Naomi-based hardware, such as Samurai Shodown, King of Fighters, Metal Slug and so on.Both MAME ROMs and Demul-compatible roms should work. Note that as of right now, only a limited selection of Atomiswave games work. More will be added later today/tomorrow.Here is a sam...

Flyinghead is adding MAME ROM support to the arcade side of Reicast Libretro. Here is what has currently been implemented:* NAOMI M1 cartridge support* NAOMI M2 cartridge support* NAOMI M4 cartridge supportThings you need to know* Right now, only non-merged romsets work. A merged rom is a ROM without parent, it contains all the files needed.* NAOMI M4 cartridges require a special BIOS file to be put inside your System directory. The M4 bios should be in a "naomi.zip" file in the BIOS folder (<system folder>/dc ). The file in specific whi...

You can see here an early Work-In-Progress build of natinusula's Ozone, the new menu driver that we hope to be premiering soon as a touch/mouse/gamepad-oriented solution! In this video, we demonstrate how on the fly theme switching is already possible. Not shown in this video but very much a thing is how the button legend below responds to the 'Swap OK/Cancel' setting, so it properly tells you which of the buttons is used for confirming and going back. Not implemented so far are message boxes, thumbnails, better scaling, etc. But all ...
New Sega Saturn core - Kronos - OpenGL rendering and cached interpreter available!
We are making a new Sega Saturn libretro core available today - Kronos. This is a fork of Yabause from the developer FCare. It's actually a fork of a fork, in this case a fork of uoYabause, now called Yaba Sanshiro. It has an OpenGL ES 3.0 (for mobile) / 3.1 renderer, allows for texture filtering, and upscaling. It even has a cached interpreter CPU core which should be faster than the default interpreter that the standard Yabause core has.See above a quick video of Daytona USA running on Kronos with RetroArch. RetroArch is a project that prides itself on being available everywhere. Wh...
