Concept Art: Kim's outfit and silent movie pulp

Here's a bit of concept sketches for Kim's outfit for this chapter. A number of folks were asking if it was based on something specific, and it is! It's inspired by Filibus (1915), a silent movie about a gender-bending sky pirate. And yes the movie is as great as it sounds, we've even got the "dress as a man to seduce her rival's daughter" angle, it's delightful.

Just thought I'd share a little thing about the journey of the character of Asmodea/Lilith/Elith. So as many know while I script the pages as I go, the overarching story of Dark Science was written way back in 2010, and while there are naturally tweaks that happened, I haven't ever really deviated from that. Dark Science Concept Art - Mezzode Department Store

Something I had in mind early on was a 1940s-style department store where mezzodes could buy or trade in their prostheses. As we saw earlier with the second-hand dealer that Kim and Ling go to, there are alternate ways to get parts, but this is presented as the more legitimate/high end. Originally I was going to lean more into the store's displays hard selling different identities/occupations, but then I realized that's how real stores, especially back then, were designed anyway, so it's a hard thing to exaggerate.
