Development Update - July 2024 (in which Jacq begins to lose his mind)
Hey all!Time for another monthly update on Origin Story's progress. Bang on a month since the last one. Go me!I wish I could give you some kind of percentage update like a lot of other developers do, but honestly, I don’t understand how they come up with these figures.Sure, you’re 40% of the way through your rendering process, but how do you know that? How do you know exactly how many renders you’re going to do for that release to be able to work that percentage out? Am I doing things wrong? Are they guessing? Should I be deciding “...
CH5 Tease
I'm doing things a little different for my previews for Chapter 5. Rather than putting a bunch out together now and then scrambling for a second bunch closer to the time, I'm going to try dropping a weekly tease until release instead. So here's your first.

Fantasy Series 1 - Emerald's Band
Don't worry, I haven't decided to abandon Origin Story in favor of a new fantasy project featuring OS's side girls. To celebrate the imminent release of Origin Story Chapter 4 - here comes a series of unrelated (obviously non-canonical) fantasy-themed special renders every 2 days - and with each tier's early access release of CH4 - up until public release day.
Development Update - June 2024
Hey all.Probably just a short dev update this time around. I don’t have much to cover other than stuff I already touched on in the last update and giving a progress report on them.First and foremost, Chapter 4 is fully tested and complete… and I should hope so because early access starts in 4 days. Hold on to your butts. Its one of my favorite chapters so far so I hope you all enjoy it as much as I do.The boring and frankly painful process of postworking for Chapter 5 is now finally complete. So, all that remains is some coding stuff, incor...

Chapter 4 Preview #2
We're roughly a month away from the release of Chapter 4 so here's another little preview to what's coming. Enjoy.
BTS: Postwork
One last post before my vacation.I've been racking my brain to think of some "behind the scenes" content to put up here, and I'll be honest, its super hard. There's not a whole lot you can do without spoiling upcoming content. So I figured, I'd look back (and a tiny bit forward) and shed a little light on the arduous process that is postwork, or at least the way I do it. And it's relevant, because its currently what I'm gonna be spending a whole lot of time on these coming weeks.Around 9 or 10 months ago I litera...
Development Blog - May 2024
Hello all! It’s been a busy month working on Origin Story and I’ve made lots of progress. Firstly, Chapter 4 is now complete – renders, code, audio… everything. It will come in just shy of 700 renders which is only just a little more than Chapter 3, however, 3 had a few alternate scenes which beefed up the total number of renders significantly. Chapter 4 is pretty much linear with just one scene you can opt out of (and I very much recommend not doing). So, the runtime overall will be longer than 3 coming in at – I think – around 1 ho...
