YouTooz Plushies!
I'm partnering with YouToozto do the whole fam as blind box plushies! They'll be released on April 23rd and will be available for 4 WEEKS ONLY!They're much bigger than you'd think they'd be for a blind box, I was actually surprised when they showed up and the boxes were HUGE! I've included a pic of Fran wearing my glasses for scale! I need to think of a funny thing I can do with them like I did with the "12 Days of Momsmas" MakeShip campaign. Suggestions welcome on where I can take them for photo ops!
COMIC: Party Time

Making of "Asking The Big Questions"
J posted this back and forth he had with our 7yo in our group chat. Usually when this happens, I copy and paste the convo into my "roughs" folder and fiddle with it a bit more, but this one did not pass GO and went straight into "ready"!The only thing I changed was babying up the language a bit, as Cooper is younger than his human counterpart. I knew using pasketti would be a little confusing, but figured as Joel translates it in the second panel I should be OK.Longer comics with lots of text can be daunting to read, so I try ...

COMIC: Asking The BIG Questions (Plus BONUS COMIC!)
Word for word conversation J had with our youngest. I couldn't make this stuff up! ๐คฃEdit: BONUS Panel...? Comic?! This was part of the conversation that happened after J posted what 7yo had said to our message group. I tried to fit it into a single panel, but the expression rollercoaster was too funny to miss out on, so here's a whole other COMIC! I wish I could claim Fran's lines, but that was actually our pal Zach from Last Place Comics! :)
Making of "The Mephistopheles Saga"
Sorry for my horrible trick on Monday! I love a good April Fools prank, but it's getting harder and harder to think up something new every year! I was actually getting worried I wouldn't be able to, but then on my walk with Captain it hit me! Post the middle of a comic without the beginning or the end! It would be like walking into a movie halfway in and having absolutely no clue what's going on!I wanted something dramatic and series altering to be happening. My first thought was that one of the family had died, but I didn'...

Come back tomorrow for the exciting CONCLUSION!!

Making of "Little Friend"
I'm my notes I just had the kids down as "acting crazy", so when it came time to draw it gave me pause. (HA! accidental pun!) After considering some crazy kid things, I hit upon having them scratching up the sofa -I love it when I can get a cat joke in there!I wanted the kids in full "goblin mode", so I kept pushing baby Vincent's expression until it only barely looked like him. I find removing the eyebrows is a useful trick to make them more feral. Fran's expression at the end was the hardest to nail. The funnie...
Making of "El Florko"
Flork is having a contest to draw his character somehow involved in graffiti, either real or a picture. I thought I'd have some fun with it and draw Vincent in the classic "El Barto" pose:I sketched it out, but Vince's head looks a bit weird from this angle, so I went with a slightly different pose:
Making of "Get Baby To Sleep!1"
Back in 2019 I did this comic:I've been toying around with how to update it to the new style for a while. I still really like the original gag, in some ways more than the new one, but it was wordy and didn't land as well as I'd hoped. This is one of the reasons I want to get into animation so much! Some jokes would just work better if there was a voice over a different visual. So for this one it would cut away to her discovering the sleeping baby in the carseat and then back to her mad face! For the remake I decided to go in a differ...
Making of "Clock"
Buckle in, because this one was an ADVENTURE! Alright, lets start at the beginning. A lot of people know the infamous "Peanuts Comic", but that didn't actually happen to me, that was Marcy G from Twitter. The one that DID happen to me was this: When my oldest was very little he'd drop the L in clock. One time hubby had to go in somewhere and I figured we'd wait for him in the waiting room rather than the car. On walking in I am immediately greeted by an enormous black clock on the wall, so I spin right around and walk back o...
Making of "Hit it Off" (Part 2)
Not too much more to say on this one, but I had the video so it seemed a shame not to post it! Oh actually! It does show one interesting thing! In the last panel you can see my technique for drawing a front on version of a character. I take the side facing head, make a copy and mirror it on top. Then I trace halfway between the 2. The resulting lines is more or less the face from front on -or at least a basic proportions guide to draw a better version on top of!
Making of "Hit it Off" (Part 1)
I wish I could say this was based on a true story, but J wrote it! Making small talk with other moms on playdates is less of a deal now my kids are older, but oh what I wouldn't have given for a silent scrollin' playdate back in the sleep deprived era! Having said that, I've actually been pretty lucky with my kids friends parents thus far. I think we're such a weird family that my kids attract weird friends, who in turn have weird parents -so it all works out rather well!Speeding through the dialogue too fast on this one would h...

What would you lot like to see as Kickstarter Rewards for The Show? We have our own ideas, but I'm curious if there are things we haven't thought of! ๐ค
Making of "Earworm"
After that announcement I was going to draw a comic (without the stress of HAVING to think up a bonus panel!) but my iPad is downstairs and a cat is sitting on me, so I guess it's a good time to get caught up with these making ofs! ๐ This comicwas further down my to-do list, but then we showed the kids "Man's Not Hot" by Big Shaq and it was all anyone sung for the next week! I can't remember the earworm that got me to write this one down initially, but I believe the conversation was reversed. *I* was the dumbass that wante...
Changes to Subscriptions
Iโm afraid I have bitten off more than I can chew. Iโve been struggling to keep up as it is and now I'm staring down a bunch of things I need to do for the Kickstarter -plus the kids are needing a lot of management right now (well, the big one anyway!) Feels like I'm going non-stop and still falling behind! ๐ Something has to give and I've decided it has to be the subscriber stuff. So for now at least: No new subscriber exclusive monthly comics Bonus panels will still appear here a year before being posted publicly, but I will...

*EXCITING ANNOUNCEMENT! *
I keep typing this out, but I'm so excited that I can't word good, so I'm just going to say it:We've been secretly writing a script for the pilot episode of a Litterbox animated show! It's really funny and I think you're going to love it, but now it's time to get serious and start animating -and for that, we're going to need to do some funding! Which is where Kickstarter comes in! https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/litterboxanimation/pilot-episodeFor now we just have a pre-launch sign up page, but this page is ...
Making of "Tattletale"
Our youngest is going through a phase of telling on our oldest, which is pretty easy because our oldest makes a lot of bad calls! I never understood the "Don't Tattle" thing until now. I thought "of course you should tell a grownup if there's something amiss!" -but I hadn't envisioned this! We'll all be having a fine time and then 6yo will drop a "Do you remember that time when 9yo did [insert terrible thing]?!" 9yo will defensively snap back and then we have a fight on our hands from absolutely nowhere! ...

Staplegator Design Process
Staple is an Austin... well... staple! It's a small, but famous local con that's started back in 2005. It was the first comic con I ever went to after moving to America in 2010, so it holds a special place in my heart. Imagine my surprise then, when I was asked to design the official Staplegator mascot this year!I looked at past Staplegators to see what had and hadn't been done before. The last 2 years had a parent/child theme, so there was my obvious direction out the window! I got to sketching and came up with these 3 ideas:1) Reg...

Making of "Bedtime Thoughts"
9 year old threw this nugget at me at bedtime and it blew my mind. As a nerd, it's not like I haven't pondered the science of immortality before, but I'd never thought of THIS. There's some debate over whether he's right, (full blown dinosaurs seem like a stretch!) but it opens the door to some wild thoughts! The internet loves his mad takes, so I knew I was onto a winner!I wanted to have Vincent looking tired and then happily rolling over to sleep after delivering his brutal thought. I messed around with different expressio...
