September Prompts - Nocturnal (nsfw, tw sacrilege)
🕑 Added 2022-09-29 16:00:09 +0000 UTCPrompt - regalmanatea: Jonathan Harker as a priest who has been put on the altar under the eyes of god which now cry blood as Dracula claims and perhaps maims his lover. Maybe his rosary is tying Jonathan up, or Lucy and Mina could be holding him open, encouraging their Lord to commit the blasphemous claiming of a child of god.
Father Jonathan Harker realized, after, what he did wrong.
He'd really thought little of it. He had a reputation for sympathy. The young couple was new to town; the slender Mr. Mason Murray and his beautiful fiancΓ© Lucy. They came to the rectory door just after sunset, and begged him to marry them. They told him they had already gone through the interviews with a Father Mulligan in Whitby, but Lucy's father had put his foot down in the end and the wedding was cancelled. They decided to elope, but were desperate for a Catholic wedding.
"Even if it's only on the step out front," Lucy said, dabbing her eyes. She arrived in her wedding gown, perhaps had even traveled here wearing it, so determined was she. How could he deny them? Better to give them a proper wedding than have them end up in desperation at the Protestant church.
He married them on the step, because Lucy said she wanted to see the stars reflected in her Mason's eyes as they wed, and then brought them to the sacristy, gifted them a rosary, and sent them on their way.
There was a strange feeling in his breast, after. Mason said little, letting his bride speak for him, but his eyes had been sharp.
When they returned, 3 nights later, he had just locked up the tabernacle after evening mass. A storm hovered on the horizon, and no one dawdled, so he took his time putting things in order after everyone had gone, and then he turned and saw them in the Vestibule.
He opened his mouth to greet them, but the strange feeling returned. Lucy entered the sanctuary first. She was still in her wedding gown, and looked odd in the candle light.
"How would your parishioners feel, I wonder," she said, drawing close, too close, "if they knew the bread you keep in that little box has spoiled?"
Before he could ask what she meant, Mason stepped forward. The slim man tugged at his tie, and pulled apart his collar, pulling his shirt apart to expose his breast... but not a man's chest, rather a woman's. He... SHE... pushed close before he could blink, and said, "You married two women in your church, Father. Your fiddle-footed God left this place when you profaned it with our union."
Lucy pressed close too, her own breasts suddenly bare, pale and pink and ruffled in lace, and Jonathan's back hit the altar in his retreat. "Honestly, it's so much better now. A weight has lifted. The things we can get up to now, Father..."
"Why have you done this?" he demanded, willing his eyes to close, averting them in panic. The women leaned against him, put their hands on him, against the altar, of all places, but OH, Lucy was beautiful, and the woman in her men's suit was so handsome, what a SIN-
"We've come to save you," a man's voice carried from the doors of the church. Jonathan saw there a man he knew; a wealthy man who came and went from town frequently for business, and who he had occasionally stopped to chat with outside the church gates, but had never approached the church itself. Count Dracula. His house was only just up the road from Jonathan's parish.
"I am far too God-fearing for religion" the man had once said, with a private smile, after Jonathan had invited him to mass. "It's simply not healthy for me." And God, Jonathan had always had trouble with Count Dracula, worse than the trouble he had with the women pressed against him now. And there was always a glint in the Count's eyes, like he knew that, and it saddened him, because what could ever be done about it, even if Jonathan hadn't taken his vows?
"I have watched you suffer for far too long. We've come to save you from your wicked god," Dracula said, as he swept up the aisle toward them, his cloak billowing and snuffing the flames of the candles out. There was an aura to him, a strange refraction of the moonlight from the stained glass windows, and suddenly Jonathan recalled the stories of an old professor from university, Van Helsing, of nocturnal creatures... A sequence of moments came together in Jonathan's memory, of the Count declining to even step foot on the holy ground of his church, the way he once turned away at the sight of Jonathan's rosary, the way the women's faces were tight until he'd blessed their union, and in retrospect, participated in the act that defiled his own church...
He found his own rosary then, and held it up, but he felt there was no power in it, and he had no power to give it. Because, he had always had a reputation for sympathy. And though the church may call it defilement, he could not hate the women, Lucy and her wife, he could not regret the act, and he could not hate himself.
The Count, close now, grinned at Jonathan's half hearted defense. Jonathan could see the flash of his teeth. Nocturnal creatures.
"Let us take you from this place," Dracula said.
So he let them.
I started typing a normal little paragraph ficlet and it got out of hand and now it's 2am oooops, I don't know enough about catholic churches in victorian england because I REALLY don't know a lot about the whole protestant/catholicism history in england in general, feel free to yell stuff about that at me, I love to learn about it in the context of Dracula lol~
