In historical record, there isn't any implicit info on the real life height of Thorkell the Tall, only descriptions of how big he was. One record in a Scandinavian saga, which I find interesting, mentions that Thorkell the Tall was so large that a single horse could not carry him. This description is particularly cool in the context of the anime because if you pay attention he is never riding a horse, he's always sitting in a horse drawn cart, walking, or running. The 230cm height is the description of Thorkell given in the manga/anime.
