Okay, you might have noticed a lack of updates here other than the next day uploads. The reason is; I’ve been busy.
I’ve always wanted to make video games, but it’s always something I would do “later.” That’s why you’ll find SSDD on “poisonedminds.com” The idea was to have a number of projects on that site alongside SSDD but that project overshadowed everything else. The Flash Player going the way of the dodo didn’t help.
So I thought I would teach myself a game engine “later.” Later never happened. Later was always later. That was until my gallbladder tried to kill me last year. All of a sudden, I felt very mortal, and “later” might not happen. So I made an effort to make some games. I picked Unity as it made the most sense for what I wanted to do. Plus it's come a long way since the days of flooding Steam with low-effort shite.
Now, the plan was to make a load of small games that take a few months to make, tops. Like everyone tells you to do. But as I learned more and improved my skills, the first game got more and more features and improvements. It is the very definition of feature and scope creep.
I really wanted to shadow drop this thing, but considering how long this is taking and I'm neglecting the Patron somewhat, I thought it best to let you in on what I’ve been up to. I don’t want to give too much away just yet, but the game is set in the SSDD universe and I’ve been dropping hints about it for a while now.
Now as the idea was to make some short, crappy games in a handful of weeks, I was going to put them up for free. Now… Yeah... I would like SOMETHING for this. It’s still a short experience, and I want people to play it for nothing if they can’t/won’t pay as it adds to SSDD. Itch.io donations? Patreon rewards? I dunno. Have some ideas for the latter at least in the form of mentions in a rolodex (it’s set in the 80’s) and you character becoming a collectible.
I could make it "early access" too but I want it finished before I show it to the world. So "early access" would just be "gatekeeping." Also I want this to play in a browser, so it would be trivial to share the link without a login system I really can't be arsed to make.
We’ll see.
I'd like some input from you lot. Should I keep quiet about this or give some updates on what I'm doing? I don't want to give too much away, but I want you to know that I'm doing stuff and things too.

Trouble is, is that I a talk about a system I'm working on it's a spoiler of what I'm putting into the game. What I'm working on now, very much so.

Programming updates? You don't have to reveal plot but you can still talk about what you're up to or show off a new bit you've put in the game.

Personally, I'm excited at the idea of a SSDD universe game. I liked the one little game you made where you stab the old man with a fork. I wouldn't want too many details before release, so if you decide to share development, could you please tag such posts so I can skip them?
