Got so annoyed at how this sect was working I didn’t even think of there being a traitor all the way up to the elders stirring the pot. And said dysfunction within the sect would be a pretty damn good environment to create one looking to get ahead.

Just have an all-out battle until the Winners can rule over a [Heap Of Ashes] !

I think the reason Gui didn't notice what was happening over at his wife's mansion is that he was so focused on his brother, their Qi-peen contest created too much "static". I don't think Shang is trying to kill his own nephew, let alone by doing it in such a public way - even if Huwen had managed to kill the kid everyone would have blamed him. The world being ruthless doesn't mean you can just go out and kill the talented child of one of the most potent cultivators in the whole empire, let alone get away with kinslaying in such a brazen fashion. And really, what does killing the child gain him in the long run? All he'd achieve is making Gui very motivated to kill him. Seems to Xue is correct in assuming there is a traitor among the elders working to pit the brothers one against the other.

Huh, I mean Shang (or someone else) must have been doing something to obscure Gui's perception of events if he genuinely only noticed when Hao arrived. So either he's guilty of attempted kinslaying by proxy or they're both being played for fools. If the latter then Shang is doing an incredible own goal by not just eating some crow and doing something like going to the Patriarch with Gui and swearing that he didn't try to have his nephew assassinated. Even if Shang were to win here then he'll still be suspected as the one behind things without the Patriarch to absolve him. And letting a madman try to kill his nephew while probably excusable given how ruthless Xianxia is...not exactly a mark of pride.

Blahful

He seems neutral though, he'd not have helped Lin with the scrolls if he had an angle.

Poor Chang Bao. Being bullied by Xue. The two seem to have a history from before they became elders. Also feels like we're approaching the end game of this arc. Not quite there yet, but it feels like we've uncovered all the unknown unknowns, and now just need to bring to light the known unknowns. I'm going to guess around 15 chapters left in this arc brought about by pan qui's poisoning. Edit: also I noticed that there elders have some very similar names. Xue/Xun. Chang/Cheung. Can def get confusing when they're all in a room together.

GloryHound

I think this is either elder Xun plotting or the patriarch himself. Xun was quick to shut up cheng at the trial, and that elixir he was making could possibly also help someone in the. Mortal realm going to the divine realm.

Murong Bang doesn't strike me as the kind of person who would bother with intrigue and mindgames. He expressed his disgust at the behavior of cultivators in the Crimson Cloud Empire.

GregTOF

I wonder who is making a move against the eternal flame clan ... The imperial family or the eternal raging valley at the request of Murong Bang ... He could have paid in purple empyrian crystals to take Control of the storm dragon Empire

Ethan Dowie

they should both mortally wound each other

In a complete book this would be a fine chapter. Having to wait a week between updates after last week's cliff? Oof. Not fun, not fun.
