I know I am too busy when so many days pass by before checking in on Patreon to see if you have posted. I need to set the notification for this, but I try to keep them at a minimum. I hope the CNC problem isn't too bad of a mess. Looks nasty though.

Thank you :) Only the finest indian pale ale this time. I use diluted acetone for older stuff with rosin flux - that would otherwise leave a white residue behind after cleaning with IPA only

hm yes, PU foam indeed seems to last forever and it was used in the guildline standard cell enclosure (from which I borrowed that mercury thermometer switch) ...

yeah looks good! and cheap too. I only hope it doesn't catch on and wind itself around my milling tool instead of being cut :)

You could try EVA foam, it machines nice. and is commonly used for organizing the tools in a tool trolly.

I suspect that your best bet for a machinable foam would be regular polyurethane closed cell foam plus a CNC hot wire cutter. Most of the machining and prototyping foams of which I am aware are designed for carbon fiber composite layup, and so are intentionally quite stiff. Typically, stiffness and coefficient of thermal expansion are more important for these foams than the insulative properties that you appear to be looking for.
