From step file you provided I you can see place for ballscrew you mentioned, but from the video it doesn't seems like the part machined as in step file

It seems most ball screw diameters are sized big enough to prevent whipping which is a problem for the longer length screws. A better way to do it in my opinion, is to use a ball smaller screw with a coarser pitch. That way you don't have to spin it as fast to achieve your desired axis speed. Whipping is eliminated and the inertia of the smaller screw is much less than the larger screw. A coarser screw requires greater positioning resolution obviously, so choose your motors appropriately. I really enjoy your videos. Hope this is helpful.

Your profile pic leads me to believe that you know what you are talking about :) How does one select diameter then? TDK starts with similar parameters to mine, but just jumps to the conclusion that at 1200 mm unsupported length 15 mm is too small. My longest ones are going to be 800 mm <a href="https://tech.thk.com/en/products/pdf/en_b15_069.pdf" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">https://tech.thk.com/en/products/pdf/en_b15_069.pdf</a>

Hi Marco. Concerning those ballscrews, 20mm is way overkill. 15mm would be simply overkill, but a solid choice. The smaller units will be easier to fit.

A combination of the two would be cool, sort or a conventional metal stand on which you could clamp a mag drill

Always wanted a magnetic base drill press. I do have a full size drill press in the garage, but the mag base would be super handy. Cant wait to see more. Keep up the great videos
