3 Power Supplies: Past, Present, Future
🕑 Added 2018-04-27 01:17:22 +0000 UTC I think it is possible to turn the Siglent into a 1 mV 1 mA resolution semiconductor curve tracer with NI LabView. Would that be interesting to anyone? I had some problems connecting with the free evaluation version of the software, so I didn't pursue that any further for now ...

your idea for the OSMU sounds cool, 10/10 would build
How about an STM32 and an optional ESP32/ESP8266 for communication - I’m uncertain about adding RF features like Wifi and Bluetooth to such a project. Any opinions?
For a living I’m a software engineer for business applications/server software. Working on hardware and MCUs is a spare-time passion 😊 that said: I would go for something like an ESP32 and the Arduino IDE - that could lower the barrier of entry for contributors. Ideally the design would be extensible, so that there is a clean separation of the hardware with its base functions and the MCU with user facing functionality to make it easily exchangeable in the future.

I am counting on that! I always struggle when it comes to finishing stuff neatly and I bet I'll be itching to start something new when the OSMU hardware is 'sort of done'. Any preferred mcu? I am thinking STM32, ESP32 or if neither is powerful enough a hybrid FPGA with embedded linux ...
I‘m also all in for the OSMU! I‘m so looking forward to building it - and I can see myself already spending waaay too much time writing software for it 😬

Amazing idea! building these projects that makers like you develop is extremely rewarding. Can't wait for this one.

Looks nice! I didn't know that such a thing existed

Yes, that looks like a very nice design goal. You may get some inspiration from the EEZ H24005 PSU. It is not four quadrant but it has decent performance and rich functionality, including extensive programming capabilities. Nice idea! I'd buy into that for sure
great idea
