Otherqueer (Issue 1)
🕑 Added 2023-11-27 23:54:41 +0000 UTCHello, it's the first full moon of November: Theriantropy Day! Awoo! To celebrate, here is my Otherkin zine: Otherqueer #1: My Transition to Creature. This was a truly self-indulgent project that developed accidentally when I sat down to make a perzine and then noticed a thread between the entries. I began uncovering some deeper truths to my gender philosophy as it relates to non-human identity and enjoyed exploring it. Though some of the essays are only roughly edited, and the whole thing is kind of a slap-job of glue stick and collage thrown straight in the xerox machine, I love making zines like this and am proud of my output and what I began to touch on. I think issue 2 will focus more on environmentalism and gender and species anarchy; working title: Let's Collapse Gender & Species and Save the World!
Haha!! If you think I'm crazy that's OK. I don't think it's crazy to be more in touch with our animal selves and do less harm to Earth. I fear that our planet will not survive more wars. I also believe there is a way to make people care that isn't just humanitarian, or the opposite, braindead PeTA doesthedogdiedotcom activism that expects people to care more about abandoned pets than displaced peoples. For those of us who are nonhuman and often feel alienated from humanity and its cruelty, a transpecies connection to all living things can bring harmony, and light the rage for peace and justice that we must fight for.
On a lighter note, I'm amused at some of the ways we have seen gender collapse in our current cultural timeline. Like CD, TV, TS distinctions morphing into "binary" vs "nonbinary" trans, and some parallels between furry vs therian identity..... Fursuiting is to crossdressing as therianism is to transsexuality... are you a REAL dog if you didn't get a strategically placed hole installed? HA HA HA...
Well, I'm still gathering my thoughts on all that lol. I've been sick, man, sinus infections push on my brain so hard it feels like a concussion. I swear it makes me so stupid. Yes, I struggle with depression too lol. And it's been a rough one lately. I'm lonely and what can I do except try to amuse myself. But I just have zero creative thoughts when I'm like this, I'm just entombed in emotional concrete. I mostly just sleep it off cuz I more or less have the luxury. But been dealing with being suddenly really broke due to my dog getting heart failure (he's OK!!?) but I forked over my whole bank account to the vet. We went from "this is the final stage of the disease" to "he's as healthy as he could be with this condition" within 6 expensive rollercoaster weeks. Wow!!!!! Back to work on some pet portraits and prep for my next event which is FURCON in SAN JOSE! I have a table on friday only. See you there!
