Brawlback Progress Report #3

2023 was a fruitful year for Brawlback, and as the year comes to a close I want to take a moment to look back on the progress made between now and the last report in April. This progress report will be split-up into sections; one for each major active feature of Brawlback.MatchmakingSince our last update in April, the transition from the Dolphin pane to an in-game menu has been going smoothly; the bulk of the work is finished with some remaining items needing to be wrapped up, as well as a general sweep for code quality and efficiency still nee...

Brawlback Progress Report #2

The first quarter of 2023 has been both a frustrating and insightful development period for Brawlback, and as we hit a major milestone I will discuss later in this post, we wanted to hone in on the progress made in terms of finishing up the rollback netcode.Challenges and RoadblocksThe biggest challenge with picking up where PiNE left off with savestates specifically is that the functionality that Brawl has that prints off what portions of memory are currently in use actually caused crashing when loading a savestate on rollbacks. For months we ...

Brawlback Progress Report #1

2022 has been a busy a year for Brawlback development and as we transition into the new year, I'd like to take some time to reflect on our progress as well as update everyone on current development. This progress report will be split-up into sections; one for each major feature of Brawlback.Matchmaking2022 saw the extension of Lylat matchmaking from Melee to Brawl, where matchmaking has been integrated via a Dolphin menu pane. This functionality has since been slightly reworked to function in the Brawl menus, allowing you to join a separate...

Donation Split for September 2022

September saw a, hopefully temporary, departure of PiNE from development on save state management in order to finish rollback and rapito instead filling in when he could. As a result, this month distribution was updated as follows:Rapito - 90% (server fees and rollback)WhiteTPoison - 5% (Project management and replays)Remaining 5% will go towards project fees in general.I may put out another update at the end of October, but if I don't assume the distribution is the same as above. Thanks again for everyone's contributions,WhiteTPoison

Updates and Structure Reshuffling

Some of you may have heard the unfortunate news that PiNE has decided to take a break from working on rollback. I and the rest of the Brawlback team will always support our developers in their endeavors, and want to give him the space to work on the project as he sees fit. However, that being said, that leaves a very uncomfortable question that I'm going to attempt to answer as best I can; where should the funds going to PiNE in support of rollback development go from now forward? As far as I'm concerned, PiNE did good work up through the...

Migrating from Trello to Aha! and Updates

Hey guys! We decided to migrate from Trello to Aha! as it has more of a rich featureset that we need. I'm working on adding y'all as view only participants so make sure to keep an eye on your emails. To provide an update on progress, a lot of work is being done right now to get some features of vanilla g++ into the brawlback-asm framework, meaning standardized containers (strings, vectors, hashmaps, etc.) are becoming more available. This should speed up development considerably, while also making things more accessible for any developer...
