Alternate Monday
Stretching out last week's series for one more day. :DDoc.
Collected Fan Art!
After entirely too long, I finally collected together a bunch of my fan art ("a bunch" is a relative term :) and whipped up a quick and kind of cheesy Fan Art Page! It's not complete yet, I know there's a few other bits somewhere in the recesses of my old hard drives- including a congratulations sketch from TWB's first anniversary (!) and one from Scotty Arsenault.I can't say how often it'll be updated, but I can say I'll try.If you have art you'd like put up there, just let me know, I'll be happy to post ...
This Is Only A Test (Video)
Shot a quick test video of using my recently-rebuilt turret lathe for it's first paying job. No narration, captions, editing or other embellishments, I just wanted to show the thing in motion. And, I wanted to see how a video does, posted here. I still owe you ladies and gents a How To Draw The Whiteboard Way vid. :)Doc.
TWB Guest Week!
With the tourney storyline finally wrapped up, we're going to take a short break before jumping right back in to the mayhem. Mark Stanley of FreeFall set me up with a full weeks' worth of great guest strips, so I figure now's a good time to slip those in for all of you to enjoy. :DIf anyone else wants to offer up an additional strip or two, I wouldn't be adverse to doing a second week. :) Submissions can be sent to grumpy@the-whiteboard.com and if you'd like a link back to your strip, gallery or Etsy custom ferret-sweater pa...
Miki yawns
It really doesn't take that long to finish these... It just takes a while to find the time to do it. :)Doc.
Bad Sketch Theater!
:DDoc.
WIP O' The Week
Work-In-Progress. :)I've had a bit of a day, and really needed to unwind a bit. Doodling is cheaper than drywall repair and knuckle bandages. :DSo I took that Miki sketch from a week or two ago, and cleaned it up- if you can call "almost completely redrawing it", 'cleaning up. :) Tried to work on the plod a little more, filled out the chest and butt, fluffed up her tail and started some proper coloring.I'll try and finish 'er up this weekend, but as always, time is against me.Doc.
Aaand... We're back!
First off, I hope all of you have had a Merry Christmas (or whatever flavor of solstice-ish celebrations you, er, celebrate) and of course a very Happy New Year!I appreciate your patience in my week-plus off, I sorely needed those particular batteries recharged. And, I was able to focus on a fairly tricky project that really kind of needed all my clock cycles for a few days. It didn't work out quite perfectly, and there were definitely a few missteps along the way, but the end result is within acceptable tolerances. And gets me much, much c...
One Possible Outcome
One possible outcome of Friday's strip. :DDoc.
Additional announcement:
Additional Announcement:For those looking to start their TWB collection, but can't afford The Whole Enchilada, there's a new option in the so-called store.Basically you can pick any two books of your choice in a Priority Flat Rate envelope for just $32 shipped ($52 sketched) or any four of your choice in a Priority Box for just $62 shipped ($102 sketched & shipped.)For those of you in Canada and other parts overseas, owing to a First Class option, I can send two books in a similar envelope for just $40, shipped (or $60 sketched.) That&#...
An Announcement of Error:
Got a couple of small confessions to make:The first one is that printing is on hold for the moment, although I only have eight outstanding orders left. I'd stocked up on plenty of materials for the run- thankfully- but the one part I didn't get a spare of, is of course the one that wore out. (It's a 'transfer unit' that takes the images from the separate color units and combines them to be actually printed.)The unit is good for 100K prints, and apparently we'd passed that some time ago. It lets me keep printing, but I...
Book sketch
One of my favorite book sketches from this go-'round. Did two or three versions of this, and I think the first one came out the best.Only thing was, I could never get 'er feet to capture the right kind of tired plod to the feet. Might have to try redrawing it for a finished pin-up.Doc.
NOW you've gone and done it...!
You people- if you are all people :) - already burned through my entire supply of the new books! But no worries, more are falling out of the press as we speak (seen above) and will be heading out the door in the next few days.I can't thank you all enough!Doc.
Very Big Thanks!
I'd like to thank everyone who who has bought (or will be buying shortly :) some books! I very much appreciate the response and enthusiasm!I'd also like to welcome the new Patrons! I appreciate the support, which this year especially, has been very valuable. Thank you for joining, and thank all of you who were already patrons, past and present. It honestly still kind of amazes me at times, to see all you ladies and gents (or whatever) that actually enjoy my little brain-dribblings. I'm not sure what that says about me OR you. :)Rest ...
Slightly Early Release!
I'd wanted this all up earlier, but as usual, it all took longer than expected...The Next Four Books Are Out!Book 17, Daybreak; Book 18, Full-Contact Parcheesi; Book 19, Attack of the Atomic Robots; and Book 20, Strange things. All now in stock and available.BUT... my existing online store is being wonky at the moment, and I've had issues with it over or undercharging for shipping since pretty much day one. So just for this launch, I whipped up a quick-and-dirty PayPal-button 'store'.The PayPal buttons don't give me many opt...
Sketchery, Pt.2
It'll make a little more sense in context. Not much, but some. :)Doc.
Sketchery, Pt. 1
Something I'm currently working on. More to come. :)Doc.
The New Guy, part 1:
Since Mark's obviously-non-canon comic went over like the proverbial lead balloon, here's a combination of something I've gotten several requests for: A) a beefcake shot of one of the guys, and B) a pic of the new guy. :)Just a quick sketch so far, of course, but I'll finish it up and color 'im as time permits.Doc.
More fan art!
This one courtesy of Mark Stanley of Freefall! :)(For those that don't get the reference: YouTube.)Doc.
Fan Art #2
For patrons only as it's a touch on the NSFW side. From Delisle's FA page:"Paintball Aftermath – Thanks to some character cameos in a posting of ‘9 to 9’ by @@cartoonwolf I was introduced to the very neat webcomic ‘The Whiteboard’ by ‘Doc’ Nickel http://www.the-whiteboard.comDoc’s archives go way back to 2005 and I’ve been happily reading them (and learning about paintball). I started with the chapter “Sandy’s First Game” in which the cute vixen pictured above participates in her first paintball game, played i...
Fan Art #1
Quick bit of fun from a reader, with Swampy either showing off for, or being distracted by, Sandy. At some point, I am going to have to have a beach-party storyline... :)Anyone else have some fan-art they want to show off? Send it or a link to grumpy@the-whiteboard.comApologies for being so quiet, I've had a lot on my plate these days, though things are finally starting to slow back down. I still want to get to a bunch of those "scene" ideas you ladies and gents offered up, but artsy-time has been slim lately. And as always, thanks fo...
Aaand... CUT!
Okay, okay! I give! You ladies and gents have provided a ton of really good ideas, and I can't wait to get to some of them. But I gotta cut you off here. As I type this, there's almost fifty entries, and there's no way I can get to all of them. The ones I can, most will likely be a sketch but a couple of them I'd like to do up as better quality finished art.Sturzkampfs Blues Brothers suggestion almost cerainly. Doc and Roger in fedoras and sunglasses would make an excellent back cover (or even front cover) for a book. :)Thank you...
Let's make a scene
Next sketch-idea theme: Give me a scene! That is, give me a scene from a famous movie, and I'll recreate it with TWB characters.BUT... and here's the kicker... it has to be from a comedy. :DSo no "paint me like your French girls" or Kenobi-vs.-Vader. :)I reserve the right to ignore suggestions from movies I've either never heard of, haven't seen, or don't like. (I hate, for example, the "Scary Movie" series, almost everything with Adam Sandler or Pauly Shore in it, and I'm not going to watch any of the ...
Not a morning person
Okay, she managed the first step, anyway. Quick scribble inspired by Monday's sidewalk sign.Doc.
A bit o' Miki...
Just a quick bit o' Miki.Doc.
Jinx'd
Just a quick scribble for Pete, who noted we haven't seen Jinx in a while. Yeah, it's just a quick-and-dirty scribble, but time is, as always, a bit short. I'd still like to finish this up, and may do that later this week.Oh, and I re-fixed the strip I fixed yesterday. :) The uploader then re-uploaded the old strip, restoring the typo. :)Never said I was brilliant. :DDoc.
Fix'd.
Thursday's strip has been colorized and installed, if you're interested. :)I also fixed the typo in Bruno's dialogue in Friday's strip. And the art/sketchery will resume on Monday. Apologies for not even making a full week of it yet, but occasionally, duty calls.Doc.
Takin' a skip day...
Today was a bit busy... which is like saying the Titanic is both a bit large and a bit damp... and I just didn't have time to draw anything... Or even properly finish the comic. :)This is the original line art for a promotional image for one of my old T-shirt runs. Metadata says it was 2006. I think I finished it at some point... I should try re-finishing it.Thanks for your patience!Doc.
Mowing the Lawn the TWB Way!
Reader Howie suggested we see Doc mowing the lawn. Somehow I suspect he didn't want to just see Doc with a typical Toro or weedwacker.Flamethrowers? Only if you don't have an imagination and a supply of old B-17 parts. :)Doc.
The Jackal
Drawing #1. Swiftdraw mentioned the Jackal, and yeah, we haven't seen him since the B&W days, and that's been a while.I forget where I got the original idea for him, but always liked the design. I know the typical "Anubis" type jackal is supposed to have a thin whippet/greyhound type tail, but I didn't know that when I first drew him, so now he has a fluffy tail. :)Coloring an ostensibly black-bodied character, wearing a black coat against a black background, is an interesting challenge for coloring. Not 100% happy with this...
