'Reimagined' Firehouse Playset - PART 3 - Level 2 Walls
The firehouse playset build continues with the exterior walls for Level 2! The exterior wall is broken up into sub-modules to make it easy for printing. They can be interlocked and glued together. A few notes: Walls - I continue to print the grey/white areas out of a matte marble PLA - I continue to be impressed by the PolyMaker brand of material here! Brick - I designed it so the brick areas can be printed separately from the main wall - this means you can select a color of your preference. The firehouse as depicted in 1989, 2016, and in Froze...
'Reimagined' Firehouse Playset - PART 2 - Garage Walls
Another set of Firehouse files are ready - this set is for building out the walls of the Ecto garage with the iconic archway. The archway - when fully opened - was designed to provide enough clearance for the Kenner Ectomobile to fit through with the gunner seat and a figure! In fact, you might say this entire 3D printing exercise stems from this single childhood frustration that has been simmering for over 30 years.....(Note: if you are just starting, get Part 1 files here...)I printed the firehouse walls using a "Matte Marble' PLA by ...
'Reimagined' Firehouse Playset - PART 1 - Ground Floor
I remember waking up one Christmas morning in the late 1980s to find a special present waiting for me - it was a large box. Inside contained a playset I have kept to this day: The Kenner Firehouse Playset! Over the years of my childhood it served as home to the Ghostbusters, a base for Batman villains, and the Daily Bugle from Spider-Man.But this playset was not without it's flaws: The garage wasn't long enough to fit the entire Ectomobile - and you couldn't drive the Ecto through the archway with the roof-mounted gunner seat! There...
V2 3D Printable RGB Ghost Trap
As previewed in my previous post, I have created files for VERSION 2 of my 3D printable ghost trap inspired by The Real Ghostbusters cartoon series. This trap features some refined assembly steps, a detachable trap cartridge, and better access to the interior of the rear control box. This trap also has a v-hook that is compatible with the 3D printable proton pack. (Note: if you want the pedal, check out the original trap files!) For build steps, Check out the digital build dashboard here! (WebGL-enabled browser, Chrome or Firefox recommended)I&...
PREVIEW! Developing V2 of the RGB Ghost Trap...!
Greetings! I can't believe it's the 4th quarter of 2023 already and Halloween is just around the corner. As I've been quiet recently, I wanted to provide an update on TWO 3D printing projects I will be delivering to this Patreon this month. The RGB Ghost Trap was the first project I released and it is one of my more popular 3D printable builds that people undertake. As I've designed other projects since, I've learned new things about model strategies and assembly concepts. With this in mind, I decided it was time to revisit t...
Pepper's Ghost... busted? (A Halloween Project)
Halloween season is coming up fast! Many stores are beginning to feature costume sections, decorations, and animatronics! My family and I are starting to plan out our annual Halloween block party and I'm presently experimenting with a few new effects I want to have set up. One effect that is simple to create and very effective is an 'old timey' illusion called "Pepper's Ghost"The concept is remarkably easy to pull off - it relies on line-of-sight, clear reflective surfaces, and clever lighting. I wanted to use this techn...
Summer Donations Update
Greetings! It seems the summer got away from me! It has been awhile since I published an update on the charitable side of this Patreon. While it seems that Patreon no longer has a 'goals' feature, I am still very much committed to using a portion of the funds earned from my 3D printing efforts to put towards causes that resonate with me.This summer, I have contributed portions of Patreon donations to the a series of groups with a presence in Nebraska that are doing hard work in the areas of animal welfare and conservation: The Nature Co...
Custom Cyclotron Guts for the Life-Size Spirit Proton Pack
Afterlife-inspired with a dash of Iron Man-esque refinement - this is my custom take on the cyclotron guts designed to fit the Life-size Spirit Proton Pack and be compatible with my Cyclotron shell and bumper prints. After cutting out the Spirit cyclotron/bumper/filter, this assembly is designed to fit cleanly into the opening with plenty of modding potential!
Life-Size Spirit Pack 3D Printable Wand Upgrades
The 'Life-Size' Spirit Proton Pack comes with a decent Neutrona Wand - but there is quite a bit of room for improvement and upgrades! This collection of upgrade parts includes a few key upgrades that can make your Spirit wand closer to what we see in the 84 movie. 'Gun track' upgrade - Here I used a Q-pack gun track and modeled an 'infill' piece to complete the 'step' geometry on the underside. I used a metal v-hook although you can likely re-use the smaller metal hook that came with the Spirit pack. Vent light c...
Life-Size Spirit Pack Misc. Upgrade Parts + Notes
While the cyclotron was the most significant upgrade I performed to my Life-Size Spirit Pack, I also 3D printed a few smaller modifications and upgrades which are compatible with parts sourced from the excellent Q Proton Pack - notable the Crank Knob and Clippard R331. Clippard replacement: Cut off Spirit-molded Clippard - grind down any excess and then afix the included "Clippard Base" file (I used super glue). You can then attach the 3D printable Clippard R331 parts from the Q pack Vacuum Line attachment: Cut the existing vacuum line ...
Exclusive - 'Life-Size' Spirit Cyclotron Replacement + Upgrade
As cool as the new 'Life-Size' Spirit Proton Pack is, the pack's outstanding design flaw is it's cyclotron area. Like with the original pack, Spirit opted for a simplified design with some questionable geometry choices (and speaker placement!). Luckily, this is remedied with a little 3D printing elbow grease.I created a set of STLs built to fit the Life-Size Proton Pack... although this does require that you cut away original cyclotron. Be sure you keep a steady hand and take your time with that Dremel tool! Here are few diagrams...
Photogrammetry Scan - Life-Size Spirit Proton Pack
Fellow builders! I'm in the process of designing and prototyping a number of 3D printable parts for the new Life-Size Spirit Proton Pack (cyclotron coming soon!). To aid in my efforts, I used a photogrammetry mobile app to produce a rough OBJ mesh that I could use as a reference with textures. It's a pretty rough mesh but it has been quite useful as a scaled reference for my 3D modeling efforts. In this post, I have attached the OBJ scan - if you find it useful in your own mods, feel free to use! (remember to verify dimensions when desig...
Patreon Update and Donation! (March/April)
Hi all!The last two months really got away from me so I'm playing a bit of catch up! I recently came back from a short getaway to London and I've been ramping up a set of builds for the newly released 'Life-Size' Spirit Proton Pack. Expect a number of fun releases this month starting this weekend. Be sure to follow the Instagram stories and live reels for updates from my garage workshop!Last month, I made a donation to Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Midlands of $400 using funds earned here - this is a great organization that fo...
3D Printable Ecto Capsule Ends and Fittings for 4-inch PVC
Hi all!I know I have been quiet recently - a number of professional priorities have kept me busy and away from the Ghostbusters game more than I would like in recent weeks. After I get home from my current international trip (London!), I'll be able to refocus on some of GB projects I had planned out earlier this year.To tide you over, a number of people have inquired about my custom Ecto roof rack over the years - it's a mix of found parts PVC, luggage carrier, and old re-painted coolers (among other found parts). As part of the design,...
Exclusive - 3D Printed Custom Mini-Cyclotron Design
Sometimes our paranormal problems require a little bit of creativity...The mini-cyclotron design adapts the technology of a proton pack into a more compact design allowing for remote operation and greater mobility. While it is less powerful than a full-size proton pack, the light-weight automation potential of the mini-cyclotron can prove to be advantageous. Mount it to a tripod with a blaster for remote-controlled capabilities. Or attach it to your utility belt if you need more mobility in the field.-----The design is a remix of some downscale...
2023 Donation Update - International Red Cross + UNICEF
Greetings all,The world can be a scary place - like I'm sure many of you area, I am shocked to see the devastation of the earthquakes in Turkey and Syria. As horrible as the disaster has been to watch unfold, I am equally inspired to see the hard work of the people working on the disaster relief and rescue operations. It's a reminder that there are real heroes out there helping. It is in this spirit, that I have made two donations for January and February to the International Committee of the Red Cross and UNICEF in support of the disast...
EXCLUSIVE - 3D Printed 'Ghost Chipper' Files and Instructions
To say that the 2016 reboot is 'hotly debated' in the fan community is a bit of an understatement - but I have a slightly different take: When Ghostbusters: Answer the Call came out, I wasn't really into the Ghostbusters scene at all. While I grew up with the original '84 and '89 entries, I had only the vaguest awareness of a new Ghostbusters movie in 2016. At the time, I was far too busy starting a new business venture and being a new parent to pay attention to the latest in pop culture.I remember being on a plane ride retu...
New Year, Recap, + New Project Plans!
Greeting visitors and patrons,I hope everyone's New Year is off to a good start. It seems 2023 will be a fun year for Ghostbuster fans - a new movie is going into production and is slated for release in... December (is anyone else skeptical... ha!). There is also a great deal of buzz as fans are starting to receive their Hasbro packs. Always cool to see more packs in the wild!I am pleased to report that funds from this Patreon were used to fund $3000 in 2022 donations to the various charities and non-profits above. I will be keeping this ph...
Slime Blower Accessory for Hasbro Figures
2022 was a lot bigger than a toaster... Here is a small but fun release to close out the year. A patron recently requested a Hasbro-compatible variant on my previously released Slime Blower accessory for the Kenner figures. (thanks for the idea, Ian!)They really make the figure pop! I also like how the classic blaster 'arm braces' can double as a movie-accurate way of holding the blower.I decided to publish this accessory as a public post to keep the New Year positive vibes high. Feel free to share this post link around... (please obser...
Exclusive - 3D Printable 1A Style Rack for Kenner Ectomobile
There is a longstanding debate among Ghostbusters fans: Is the Ecto 1A an upgraded Ecto 1 OR if it is an entirely different car. Afterlife seemed to suggest that original Ecto 1 remained in its original state.... but there was no sign of the 1A at Egon's farm. Where did it go?I do not have any answers... all I know is that I really like the 1A.As a comedic gag, it signaled another level of marketing absurdity for the Ghostbusters (the side scrolling signs are a good laugh). It also shows the constant evolution and innovation of Ghostbusting...
November 2022 Donation Update
Greetings!I am pleased to announce a few updates for this Patreon's charitable giving initiative in November! There have been some excellent causes brought to my attention in recent weeks.First, there is an amazing initiative underway by the Starlight Foundation to create Ghostbusters-themed hospital gowns for kids. It's a wonderful concept to introduce an element of fun for kids who are ill or injured. I have made a donation of $100 to this initiative using funds earned on this Patreon.Second, I learned of an Omaha-based organization c...
Exclusive - 'Concept' Dual-Chair Gunner Seat for Kenner Ecto-1
An account on Instagram caught my attention awhile back - @theartoftgb posts about animation cells and concept art related to the Real Ghostbusters Cartoon. (If you are a fan of RGB, give them a follow!)A few posts in late-2021 caught my attention: concept art for play features considered for the Kenner Ecto-1! The Ecto-1 was one of my favorite vehicles when I was a kid so it was really cool to see some of the features the toy design team was considering early on.One of my favorite concepts is the dual-gunner chair that could fit two Ghostbuste...
3D Printed Extreme Pack - Files & Instructions
Now that the pre-release files/posts have been out for a few months, I took some time to organize a comprehensive set of files with a supporting 3D dashboard guide to help with assembly! As I've noted in previous posts, I haven't personally built this Extreme Pack yet - so if anyone has managed to put one together, I'd love to see it! 3D Online Dashboard Guide can be viewed here (Chrome recommended)A few general notes: Assembly of the parts assumes the use of M4 (4mm) screws throughout with glue also holding sections together. For t...
When you give a kid a proton pack
With Halloween right around the corner (and Pateron now allowing video uploads without YouTube), I thought it would be fun to share a very special moment with patrons. For his 5th birthday, I designed and printed his very own proton pack (using files I published here!). He loves the Ghostbusters and I could think of no better gift! This video was taken when it was gifted to him and his reaction is.... well... I'll let you watch :)Four years ago, my son (4 at the time) discovered the Ghostbusters cartoon on Netflix which reignited my own int...
October 2022 Donation Update!
Greetings patrons and visitors,For the month of October I am pleased to allocate a $200 donation to the Omaha Children's Museum located in my city. We've been visitors to this museum over the years - it has been great to take our son, Eli, here to explore different educational exhibits and participate in their themed science camps! They provide a great service to the Omaha community that fosters learning and fun for kids. The donation was made in honor of you, the Ghostbusters Gear patrons! As a quick project update, I am in the midst of...
EXCLUSIVE - 3D Printable Ghost Sniffer Parts
"It's technical... just one of our little toys."The 'ghost sniffer' is not nearly as iconic as the proton pack or PKE, but it was featured in one of the funnier scenes of the original movie where Peter Venkman visits Dana's apartment. It was also shown briefly as part of Ray's 'lab' outfit in the classic 'we're ready to believe you!' commercial. The piece of equipment is actually a vintage Bacharach 'Combustible Gas and Oxygen Indicator' - which makes the scene with Peter and Dan even funni...
September Donation Update + Projects!
Greetings patrons and visitors! We have entered my favorite time of the year - Halloween season! This September, I looked to see if there were any non-profits or charities that are doing interesting things to help kids. I found 'Ween Dream, a Louisiana-based nonprofit that gives Halloween costumes to kids in need so they can participate and have fun. This all volunteer organization collects new and lightly-used costumes and redistributes them to kids affected by disability, medical issues, poverty, natural disaster, and more.I absolutely love...
Egon's Stethoscope Mod
"Egon, this reminds me of the time you tried to drill a hole through your head..."I've been working on some parts for creating some of the 'scientist' equipment used early on in the original Ghostbusters movie. For Halloween, I decided to create a version of the lab outfits that were used in "We're ready to believe you!" commercial. One of the accessories I created was a stethoscope mod that Egon can be seen wearing in the commercial and when we first see him in the library. The mod makes uses of some store-bought...
EXCLUSIVE - XGB Proton Pack - PART 4 - Generator
So I caught wind that today is the 25th anniversary of Extreme Ghostbusters! What else could I do but expedite the release of this last batch of 3D printable files? This 'part 4' release represents some of the final components of my Extreme Proton Pack design. Who will be the first to finish this pack? I'd love to see it and hear your builder's tale!As I mentioned in prior posts, I'm not building this project for myself (at least for now) so I am very interested to see how it comes together for others. I will be putting toget...
EXCLUSIVE - XGB Proton Pack - PART 3 - Power Distribution
I'm just making up names for this pack's sections at this point! This collection of parts represents the lower portion of main pack shell. I am calling it the "power distribution" system. I foresee this being the most complicated collection to put together but should largely go together with 4 mm cap screws. The lower "bar" hanger piece could be constructed out of 3/4" PVC pipeIs anyone building this thing so far?
