Final Burn Neo 1.0.0.02 release
Final Burn Neo (FBN/FBNeo) is the follow-up of Final Burn Alpha (FBA/FBAlpha), an alternative to MAME for arcade emulation. It’s more focused on playability than on accuracy/preservation. The team is composed of dink, iq_132, JacKc, kev and me. It supports most libretro features (netplay, runahead, retroachievements, …).Some words about accuracy & FBNeoRegularly, I see misunderstandings about our playability focus. It doesn’t actually mean we don’t care about accuracy, when we add a new system we usually make it as accurate as possible,...

Introducing the RetroArch Open Hardware project
Read the full article here -So ProjectFuture finally materialises! From the beginning, we have been unsatisfied with the general state of the retrogaming scene when it comes to being able to dump and play your own legally bought game cartridges. Solutions exist like the Retrode. There are some big issues with them though that limits their viability as something an average consumer can just buy readily off the shelf:1. Super expensive.2. No longer in production/out of stock3. Rights to the product changing hands between sellers/store owners4. Be...
LowRes NX – A new fantasy console core
Read the full article here -Written by Timo KlossWe recently released a LibRetro core of LowRes NX. Most of you probably never heard about it before, so what is LowRes NX? You may know the fantasy consoles PICO-8 or TIC-80. These are retro style platforms to develop and play little games, but without actual hardware. Something like emulators for invented consoles. LowRes NX is based on the same idea, but has some significant differences.Imagine LowRes NX as a handheld game console with a d-pad, two action buttons and a little rubber keyboard be...
RetroArch 2021 Hardware Roadmap Q1/Q2
See the full article here:https://www.libretro.com/index.php/retroarch-2021-hardware-roadmap-q1q2/2020 has been a year of accelerated growth for RetroArch, but 2021 looks set to surpass it by far! Here is what we are able to reveal of our current roadmap for now, but best believe us when we say this is only the tip of the iceberg!Xbox SeriesRetroArch raised a lot of heads last year when people figured out how to run it on the new Xbox Series consoles. Every Xbox console supports UWP (Universal Windows Platform), and every Xbox console can becom...
Buildbot status update
An update on the progress we have been making on our new infrastructure – We have figured out a way for now to make Visual Studio-based cores that rely on CMake to build. So, Dolphin, Citra, PPSSPP, and DuckStation should now be building again for 64-bit Windows. Cores that rely on CMake will not be available yet for Mac/iOS, but we hope to figure that out soon as well. Other MSVC cores (like cores for MSVC 2003/2005/2010 – cores for older Windows versions) have yet to be figured out since there are still problems with the Mingw/Msys enviro...

RetroArch Android – New versions for Play Store – please read!
Remember our previous article back in August? We could no longer update RetroArch to the newest version on the Google Play Store because their policies had changed with regards to the use of externally hosted dynamic library files.Right after this, we suffered from the crippling buildbot server hack which really set us back. Hence we haven’t been able to address the situation as of yet. Now, though, thanks to your help and support, we are finally on the cusp of having a solution that we hope (and think) will satisfy nearly everyone.RetroArch P...

Coming soon – RetroArch for OpenDingux release (GCW Zero/RG 350/etc)
Written by jdgleaver
RG350 is but one of the many MIPS-based devices on the market today running OpenDingux.
OpenDingux is a Linux distribution used by a number of open source handheld gaming consoles such as the GCW-Zero, and more recently the popular RG350, RG350P and RG350M range of devices. An initial ‘experimental’ port of RetroArch for OpenDingux was made in January, but it was left unfinished. Setting the record straight on cores and their ‘up-to-date’ status
We have started spotting a recurring trend of bad faith actors (it’s often times the same handful of people, with their own disingenuous reasons for pushing this meme) continuing to make bad-faith arguments that Libretro cores lag behind ‘upstream’ (whatever they think this means, often times they’re not even sure themselves or get it wrong) and that they’re out of date. In the past we’ve simply brushed it off as FUD (Fear, Uncertainty, Doubt) that attempts to muddy the waters, and therefore let it go unaddressed, hoping our users c...
Work In Progress PCSX2 Libretro core in development
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kEh2AH10jV8PCSX2 is a PlayStation2 emulator with a fairly high degree of compatibility. For over two years we have ran a bounty hoping that somebody would be able to port PCSX2 to libretro, so that it can run for instance inside a libretro frontend like RetroArch.Today, I can happily report that we are nearing the point where the core is becoming quite usable. It might not be long before we can finally make our first initial release. Watch our YouTube video premiere here that shows you a variety of games running ...
Changing behavior of “gl” and “glcore” video drivers
Some important changes for the next version of RetroArch relevant to the OpenGL driver - please read (full article here). What are they ?“gl” and “glcore” are 2 video drivers available on desktop computer : “gl” is an OpenGL 2.0+ driver, when used with a version above 3.0 it’s called OpenGL Compatibility and can support up to OpenGL 4.6, but some GPU drivers don’t have that OpenGL Compatibility mode. “glcore” is an OpenGL 3.1+ driver, it’s also called OpenGL Core, it supports up to OpenGL 4.6.OpenGL is one of graphics API t...
