P: Works & Days - Sketches

I try real hard to not just draw for drawing's sake. I mean, I do - but I just try not to do it a lot. I believe if you have a story to tell, you should draw that story - you'll get farther that way.

12-Inch Comic WIP - Bonus Strip #2A

I'm finding the most best/challenging thing about the new 12-Inch comics is exactly how much of a dumb himbo to make Matt. This is one of those ruffs where I can't tell which is my favorite panel... This is a WIP.

C.Edwards post In the closet with: Matt from patreon

In the closet with: Matt

I've been draining my reference files. Trying to fine tune some character design stuff but also make some final decisions on costumes. I will not be making the same choice I have previously where the characters wear different things every time but I will figure out at least 2-3 looks for each character because it's fun.Matt strikes me as the type who would have 1 pair of jeans, 1 pair of gym shorts and a bunch of old t-shirts. I think the sky blue t-shirt is a winner and maybe instead of gray sweatpants he have those mustard yellow ones...

P: Works & Days - Hero - WIP

This is the beginning of a project longtime in the making. It's going to be very challenging and I question if its even realistic but I've just gotta try. This sketch makes this city look a lot more sci-fi than it actually is...

12 Inch Comic WIP - Bonus Strip #1A

A million years ago I had this bad idea that was contingent on Matt's cock being a "joystick". I decided to resurrect that idea into something more aligned to my vision of the characters now - in design and concept. This is a ruff WIP.Sometimes I wonder if I like the hairy chest and arm veins. Thoughts?

New Lamps for Old

I have a hard time getting rid of old ideas, so I decided to use them as inspiration for some short 12-Inch stories.

Taking a Break

Taking a break for summer to evaluate if Patreon is worth the energy. I am pausing payments during this time - enjoy your summer.

Ramble Time, pt. 03

So, what does one do when they feel like they have a handful of good ideas and like, a quarter of the time needed to execute them? I wish I knew. But one thing I remind myself more and more frequently these days is that if I don't have a story, all the reference and all the sketches and all the model packs I've made for myself won't amount to shit.If I want to animate something - I need a storyboard and a character design is not needed to do that. If I want to make a comic - a narrative would be nice and 25 drawings of a character i...

C.Edwards post Ramble Time, pt.02 from patreon

Ramble Time, pt.02

I tend to think of every one of my projects as two projects because - as a former animator, I'm obsessed with model packs. For those of you who are unfamiliar a model pack is just a bunch of information on how to draw a character. Do's and Dont's, mouth shape charts, head sizes, etc.Unfortunately, model packs as an idea aren't real. When I say that I mean, unless you're a big entertainment company with an entire department devoted to building resources like that, they are not designed or built as a means to begin work.Models...

Ramble Time, pt.01

My big problem in life is too many projects - which is a good problem to have, but can be paralyzing if you struggle with time management, maintaining momentum and the feeling of perfectionism that plagued me in my younger days. Anyways, I've been trying to pull my shit together and at least push out some of these projects to the next stage in a way that make me feel like progress is being made. And for those asking, my judge of progress is how many pieces of reference material I've managed to turn into a full color character design or ...

Best Looks - Abel Boddy #415

Not exactly one of Howard's iconic looks, but one that I remember conceiving while at a dance party at the Highland Ballroom back in 2010. I was looking for a way to make Howard and Corey more of a couple and I took a "based on a true story" approach - and while I've never cut up someone I like with a beer bottle - I have always believed everyone out having a good time all night is "just on coke" and I really hate walking through a crowd of shirtless dancing gays. I sorta took that night out and pushed it to the best cas...

A, B or C? - 12 Inch Sketches

Still not loving Matt's chin, so I'm going to try pulling his cheekbones back, rounding out his jaw and... I'm leaning towards option A and B on the chin...?I have this vision for the guy's apartment that is built on "3 people live here":Leo keeps a clean home with well preserved old furniture that he probably inherited from his parents or bought second hand - your typical 70's sitcom looking shit. And it's all pretty fragile, which could make for good comedy.Kevin is messy and all his furniture is blocky and mod...

Fashion - Sketchbook

I've had these ideas for a very specific look for this project and I've decided to finally put my money where my mouth is and try to execute it. I made these paper doll templates and pulled out the reference to pore over. The plan is to keep pushing the clothing and character designs until they get beyond the reference and start to expand into actual characters and environments etc.

We Love a Short King - sketches

Sometimes, you start working out a new character for no reason. This is Carlos and he's "a short king, with bulbous pecs, short soccer shorts that hug his muscular legs and a pronounced unavoidable bulge." His last name is probably something like; Pinga Del Grande or Del Grande Cabron. What he lacks in height he makes up in girth. He has no fear. He loves himself. And has no regard for personal space. He fetishizes tall bottoms: "What can I say, I need the extra legroom, Ok."His latest obsession is Jacky Needdick - who he met...

Greco-Roman Sketchbook

While digging through some old sketchbooks I found a bunch of studies from a mythology project that I've been noodling with for a while. I am very intrigued by the idea of costumes that look both very modern but also very greco-roman.

C.Edwards post Best Looks - Abel Boddy #307 from patreon

Best Looks - Abel Boddy #307

A comic about a gay guy with a guardian angel gives you lots of opportunities for ridiculous stories and this is something I always wanted to exploit. In this quick storyline from 2010, Howard refuses to jump on the gay bandwagon with a new summer fashion trend: The Pollyboy Mantote - and since he will not comply with the summer trend, summer cannot begin.I would never put this one in the "Best of" of Abel Boddy comics, but I can look back and see all the ingredients of something I thought was entertaining. The bizarre weather phenomena...

Scary Questions - a 12-Inch WIP

Apparently my interest in composing comic pages has shifted to just figuring out a single panel at a time. I guess this is helpful while trying to nail down new character designs but I worry it won't make any sense when I put the panels together - and what of the font point size and bubble placement... <gasp>Will someone please think of the font point size and bubble placement?!!Anyhow, maybe I shouldn't care about what happens when I put these panels together? Maybe I should just be one of those creators who does one panel per page? Ma...
