Went on a Wikipedia binge and materialised a small story idea that's ultimately an excuse for me to draw bullshit machinery on buildings. Nothing will probably come of this lol. Maybe in a few year's time... This is the first thing I've drawn on my dad's computer and it felt weird as hell. The good news is, my laptop got fixed!! I'll be able to retrieve it on Monday! I'm so excited to get back to work. I wrote an extra scene for ZATO in the meantime, so that's 2k extra words to fatten the script😼

Sorry for the lack of updates, I'm still waiting for the verdict from the repair shop. Turns out the laptop battery is more or less fine - the issue is in some fine electronics burning themselves up, so the two options were to either let the laptop fry itself from the inside until it inevitably dies or perform some risky operation that might either salvage it or kill it completely. Chose the latter, but I'm yet to hear a word back on how it's going. I really hope they save it... So nervous😥TLDR: I still don't have any PC to d...

THIS CAN'T KEEP HAPPENINGMy laptop seems to have a battery leak (it smells like nail polish and looks a little swollen), so I'm taking it to a repair shop next week. Backing everything up right now, hope it doesn't explode mid transfer lol. I'm not even surprised by tech malfunctioning at this point. Maybe I killed an IT guy in my past life and this is my atonement

This is the last CG I'll be showing before the game's release. There's not that many of them, so I don't want to spoil too much. Though, I might edit this one a little bit later, I'm noticing some mistakes... I don't remember if I've said it before, but thank you so much for being patient with me. It's really amazing that I've been allowed to go all in on a spontaneous side project no one asked for. I'm working hard to bring it to you as soon as possible!!

a toothpick changes everythangi've realised asya needs a lot more expression variants compared to other characters. even if the alterations are pretty small, it makes a huge difference in game... at least to me. i've lost a couple work days due to a family visit, but it really feels like everything is coming together at last. i hope to finish the beta within a week.even though the characters and story are a lot less grounded compared to PAFL, i'm still really excited to get ZATO out there. it's been such a fun little project.

Gave two side characters their own spritesets and added a lot of backgrounds! It's really cool to see the scenes gradually filling out.I'm using a fair share of archival photos, so some backgrounds are visibly blurrier than the rest, even with all the paintovers and editing tricks. I keep telling myself it's a free game at the end of the day, but I do hope that it won't be too jarring.

at last. portraits for the curious starer.i was going to put her on the left side of the screen at first, but it looked so cramped and unbalanced, i couldn't stand it.also fixed a major bug with the textlog (it used to seriously mess up NVL segments) and made 30+ new sprites for marina. how come mom lets you have three outfits

Done transferring the script! I couldn't work as much as I hoped last week due to irl circumstances, but now I'm back at it. Now it's all about finishing everyone's spritesets and CGs.I've also removed a lot of swears along the way. I understand that people swore back in the day as well, but seeing USSR teenagers being crude all too often breaks the immersion for me. I guess you can blame movie censorship for that.

i feel so rusty, i've just been coding for the past week and a half. i'm almost done transferring the written script into renpy, though it will still require a couple rounds of editing. i gotta get back into shape, there's still a lot of sprites i need to draw...

As I'm inputting the script into the engine, I realise it needs some extra scenes here and there to even out the pacing, or to make the chain of events easier to follow, or to describe the setting a little bit better. That's all fine and good. But what I'm saying is, the script has already gotten 2000 words fatter in the first hour of playtime. I wonder how big it will be by the time the game is done
