The Remojadas culture flourished on the Mexican Gulf Coast (primarily central Veracruz) during the Classic period. They are particularly known for their detailed ceramic figurines, which this drawing is also based on.
Two women are wearing the long skirt and a round top. It is similar to quechquemitl in the sense that it has an opening in the center and is worn like a poncho. However, it is not triangular like quechquemitl but has a more rounded look, which often causes these garments to be misidentified as ‘huipil’ in several literatures. Interestingly, a similar type of garment was worn by contemporary Teotihuacano women as well.
Round, pillbox-like headdresses are another interesting element that shows up in the majority of Remojadas figurines. They bear similarity with Huasteca headdresses from the Postclassic period.
