The idea for these timings is very simple. Just slap them right on top of the XMP of your SK Hynix 16Gb M-die based dimms in a single rank configuration. Enriched RX 6950 XT OC Formula PCB Breakdown notes
The Asrock RX 6950XT OC Formula has the most powerful PCB of any RX 6950XT. I say powerful because IDK if it has the best voltage regulation (that requires o-scope measurements) and it has no board protection fuses so in the unlikely event that it suffers a VRM failure it could be far harder to fix than some other 6950XTs that do have fuses.Extra FeaturesDual BIOSLED off switchJ4003 header pads for connecting to card's VRM I2C.Vcore VRMLAYOUT:14phases in total 7 on both sides of the core to reduce power plane impedance.CONTROLLER:Infineon X...
Enriched RTX 3090 Ti SuprimX PCB breakdown notes
This is my favorite of the normie 3090Ti PCBs. I consider it a normie 3090Ti since it only has 1 16pin connector unlike the HOF and KPE which have 2. Also the 16pin can handle less power than 3x 8pins. However retroactively increasing the power spec of 8pins to better match their physical limits is not a good idea so now we have the 16pin with it's 600W power limit(which is pretty close to it's physical limit).Extra FeaturesDual BIOS20A Fuses on all 12V inputs. In the event of a VRM failure(rather unlikely with VRMs like these) these ca...
2021 July Annotated RAM "shopping list"
Just download the txt file. If you have any questions I'd prefer if you'd take them to the AHOC discord since I watch that more than the Patreon.
New discord link
Apparently the old link is broken so here's a new one:https://discord.gg/gFsRf3c
test run video: some thoughts on cost effective design
Obviously this is a very speculative video since I don't know how much Asrock spends on what components however I still wanted to point what I find to be some very odd design decisions on a motherboards that should be focusing on bang for the buck instead of bling.

Considering making an AHOC discord
So I've had a few people ask me if there is an official AHOC discord and so far there isn't but I'm toying with the idea of making one. I'm entirely sure what I will use it for but I tend to dump info as I'm testing onto the /r/overclocking discord already and having a dedicated AHOC discord is IMO a better way of handling that since technically speaking the /r/overclocking discord is for the subreddit and not for my channel.
My first impressions of the MSI X470 Gaming Plus
I hate keeping information to myself but as of right now I don't know how best to present it for the YT channel so you all get some early access to what I think after messing with the MSI X470 Gaming Plus for a couple hours. The GoodThe board has LEDs to indicate occupied RAM slotsThere's an indicator LED for the top PCI-e X16 slot tooRAM OC seems very solid 3600 12-12-12-1T for benchmarking is a first for my R7 1700The BIOS is snappy when just messing with overclockingWorking VRM temperature sensorsVoltage readings seem accurateCurrent ...

Has buildzoid died? Not yet give it a few decadesHas buildzoid done anything?yes. the HD 7870 power board got some upgrades, the zombie R9 290X died completely and he broke 2 different windows installs. Just a quick update on some new toys that are coming in.
I've gone out and bought an i7 7700K and a Gigabyte Z270N-Wifi. I had to buy the 7700K because my usual source for CPUs that got me the 6950X and 5960X doesn't have any 7700Ks. The mobo is of course so that I can join the Gigabyte OC season for 2017. Any hardware I win will be used for making content and then either be a given away or sold to fund more hardware for AHOC use. Thanks for the support making these purchases possible.I also got good news about RAM. I am currently in talks to get either 2 or 4 sticks of Samsung B-die. All the...
What hardware to get? & other stuff
Ok so since you guys are the ones funding this stuff directly I figured I'd ask for some of your input on what to get next.Currently I'm still waiting on getting an i7 7700K because of some hold up with one of my sources. But I shouldn't have to buy one just need to wait.On the other hand the following things look like they will have to be bought by me:MSI RX 480 Gaming: I might be able to ask for one but MSI is kinda giving up on the whole overclocking scene because it hasn't really been worth it for them. I'm thinking of g...
November update
University is starting to get pretty intense work wise so if the content seems a little sparse it's not my fault but the Uni's.Other than that LN2 is going to be turning up on the 28th. Which sucks because I leave the UK to go visit family in the Czech Republic on the 17th of December and I'm attending(as a commentator) the HWbot World Tour Overclocking Championship in Germany from the 1st to the 5th(this will actually be a ton of content). So that doesn't give me a lot of time to spend with the LN2. On the bright side I do have...
October update
Towards the end of September I made a small trip to the CZ to pick up some of the stuff I left behind when I left to go to Uni. With these things I plan to get out a fan review article up on the blog some time soon. The testing will be noise and cooling performance at 1000RPM and noise and cooling performance with maximum fan speed. I have a decent selection of fans to work with right now and if the article is successful I hope to go out and get more fans to add to the comparison. Right now I just need to figure out the details around what to u...
September update
So lets just run down what's currently going on hardware:5960X: wont go over 4.2Ghz regardless of mobo or voltage used. As far as I care this chip is pretty much dead.RX 480: looks like the 1 LN2 session I did with the card cracked the BGA. Should be repairable but I still need to get a heat gun to do it.Everything else is still working as it should. However this does cause some issues. I can't really review the X99 Titanium if the only CPU I have for it is not working so that's on delay until I get a working LGA 2011-3 chip. The cu...
First update
Hey guys Buildzoid here and this is the first Patreon update to give you an idea of what these are. In the future only the Patrons will get to see these. So basically these updates exist to give you a little peak into the planning of AHOC and why nothing is ever on time. So here's the list of things that are coming soon onto the youtube as well as the blog.Youtube:6pin vs 8pin: I've run out of excuses hereRX 480 PCB run down: Just a quick overview of all the different RX 480 PCBs.
