Analog motor driver, none of this PWM rubbish™

Imagine 3 of those in a single instrument, wouldn't that be wonderful?

marcoreps post Linear Optocouplers from patreon

Linear Optocouplers

Isolating the 3 OSMU output channels has a ton of advantages. They can be connected in series for higher voltages or in parallel for higher current for example. But communicating with these isolated channels isn't easy. They need to know what voltage and what current they can put out, and they have to report back the actual values of the two parameters. That's at least 4 analog values that have to be transmitted over an isolation barrier with a high bandwidth and no delay ideally. After multiple less-than-ideal attempts, this is my latest ...

>33°C in my roof apartment :(

so sorry about the unfashionable towel :)The typical dry insect chirping ambient sound is not added in post either, it's what's going down in Germany right now.So the FPGA board is here and the to-do shelf is emptier than it been in months :)

marcoreps post Got a very clean m² behind my bed now from patreon

Got a very clean m² behind my bed now

This is a Vanigo A3 vacuum robot, pretty pricey at around 280$, so I thought it might be interesting to look into ...Taking advantage of the Path Recognition system, the carpet cleanersimply remembers each path it has been through and makes decisions accordingly navigated by the inbuilt Gyroscope. With each time of cleaning, it is also a process of ESLAM mapping that helps your robot cleaner get smarter and more customized for your home environment.

marcoreps post Fume extractor idea from patreon

Fume extractor idea

I wanted to do this myself, but it seems like I am getting this one for free: https://uk.rs-online.com/web/p/solder-fume-extractors/7645726/So I am just going to leave the idea here for now.I found myself not using my freely standing fume extractor as much as I should, because 'ah what the hell, just a quick solder joint, not gonna set up anything complicated for that'. So I need a permanently installed solution, that automatically turns on when I use the soldering iron. My idea was to get an affordable (in comparison to that profession...

Giving away the worst electronic load

Haven't done one of these in a while ... the rules are simple: In 7 days the comment with the most hearts wins. I for one am getting a new, slightly better one 😋This one is okay-ish because it can actually take almost the specified power, but the UI is sooo horrible ... https://www.banggood.com/150W-Constant-Current-Electronic-Load-60V-10A-Battery-Discharge-Capacity-Tester-1602-LCD-Display-p-1255707.html

Think Camera.. Think e-con!!

I've accepted this thing for a product video >3 months ago. It's cool and all ... but I don't have time for it rn 😭It's a calibrated 'Tara' USB 3.0 stereo vision camera, meaning that one can make reasonably reliable dimensional measurements with it. It also has a built-in IMU, so theoretically one could capture larger 3D views without external precise positioning hardware.

marcoreps post OSMU: Which controller? from patreon

OSMU: Which controller?

So I've been trying to find a combination of microcontrollers, DACs and ADCs that can operate 3 OSMU channels (= 12 DACs + 6 ADCs + a few digital pins) simultaneously, with reasonable speed (= hundreds of kHz or even a few MHz?) and are easy to opto-isolate.There are some attractive all-in-one solutions here: http://www.analog.com/en/parametricsearch/11289 or http://www.ti.com/product/LMP92018 or https://www.maximintegrated.com/en/products/analog/data-converters/analog-to-digital-converters/MAX1329.htmlBut my initial plan of controlling all...

marcoreps post Greasy goggles from patreon

Greasy goggles

Two words that are used together rarely...The nice glass-lensed UVEX pair from Mr. Hightechstuff is a fine pair of protective eyewear, but better suited for higher wavelengths. So I got another pair from a surplus shop and sure enough: Smells like an old army depot and is extraordinarily greasy. BUT: OD14 at 1060 14 at 840 nm NEODYMIUM-GALLIUM ARSENIDE it says on the plastic lens. Seems good for my 977 nm laser?

marcoreps post Almost GHz Active Differential Probe from patreon

Almost GHz Active Differential Probe

Build the diffprobe from this blog post: http://blog.weinigel.se/2016/03/16/ghz-differential-probe-3.html with a few mods. I don't have a network analyzer yet, or anything near GHz so I can't really test that ... but it works wonderfully for fast differential signals like USB or HDMI and floating shunt measurements etc. Before I used this HP 1141A with it's own PSU. Took a few minutes to set up and plug in, mine is powered directly by the scope with a DC-DC converter.

TS-80 Soldering Iron Close Up

Yes, it's a soldering iron. But as some of you have noted already, it's a lower power one, so I don't think it's meant to be a replacement for the TS-100. I'll do some more experiments, then video about it tomorrow!
