Life update: I'm learning Godot
Apologies for the lack of updates on gamedev stuff or art in recent months. It's been a difficult year for personal reasons I won't get into, as well as the same reasons it's been a difficult year for everyone else. The world sucks right now. You get it.Nonetheless, a little over a month ago now, I decided I needed to channel my nervous energy into some long overdue creative work, to give myself a distraction and achievable goals. And so I'm finally formally learning the engine I would like to make my future games in: Godot. You ...
Quick note about SLARPG's second anniversary
Hi everyone! Just wanted to set expectations for SLARPG's upcoming second anniversary on the 20th. I've been asked a few times if I have anything special planned for the occasion, and unfortunately the answer to that is "no."Ideally, I would have liked to get the big update with Hard Mode and whatnot (and/or the digital instruction booklet) out for the anniversary, but I still haven't made much progress on that. I'm still slowly recovering from burnout after dedicating eight years of my life to SLARPG, and also in these ...
PSDs: Summer art 2024
Hello, PSD tier patrons! I haven't had as much to share for this tier as I'd like because I just haven't been drawing as much as I'd like, but I do have something cool in store for this tier in the near future. For now, though, have the full resolution source files for the two beach drawings I did this summer! If you saw me tweeting about struggling with dozens of different ideas for Melody's beach outfit in the sketch phase and are curious about that, those layers are still there in the files, should you want to poke around.
Behind the scenes: Unused dialogue and alternate scenes!
Hi everyone! It's been a bit since I did a big behind-the-scenes post. Apologies for the wait. I didn't intend to take such a long break from these, but, well, I'm still kind of struggling with post-project burnout even a year and a half after releasing SLARPG, and I'm trying to get back into the swing of making things as I slowly develop ideas for my next game. (I did at least draw Melody and Allison for the summer recently, as well as my fursona for pride, if you missed those!) Your continued patience is appreciated.Anyway! He...
SLARPG: The Lost Songs! (plus a second run of the physical OST!)
Hi everyone! Sorry for the lack of Patreon updates recently. I've been moving slowly this year, but I'll try to have something new for patrons before too long.In the meantime, I'm here to plug some new (and less new) merch from Bee and our friends at Turtle Pals Tapes, for anyone who might have missed the announcement elsewhere.First up we've got Super Lesbian Animal RPG: The Lost Songs! This is a physical release of the dozens of secret bonus tracks that were previously included on the soundtrack's digital release on Bandca...
Behind the scenes: Designing Melody, Allison, and Claire!
Apologies for the wait between behind the scenes posts, everyone! I'm generally still trying to build up the energy to make things again. In the meantime, to make up for the wait between posts, let's dive into a big and exciting topic that I'm sure many of y'all will be interested in: the design process behind the original three Novas! In this post we'll be talking about the creation of Melody, Allison, and Claire, who were designed together at the very start of SLARPG's development. (Jodie was designed later, so she'...
SLARPG Postmortem: One year later
It's already been a year. This week marks one year since the Super Lesbian Animal RPG Patreon Beta, when players first got their hands on the full game. Next week, on the 20th, it'll be the game's proper anniversary, celebrating a year since its release on Steam and itch.io. And a few days later, on Christmas, I'm turning 30.As such, I'm in the mood to reflect on things. I'd like to open up about how the game has done, how I've been doing since the game was released, and what's in store for the future. (If you'...
Quick update
Hi everyone! Apologies for the lack of posts on here in recent months. Creative burnout has simply gotten the better of me recently. I'll have a few posts to share in December to hopefully make up for the inactivity, though. Stay tuned!
Behind the Scenes: The Amber Woods and World Design!
It's time once again for another behind the scenes post about the development of Super Lesbian Animal RPG! This time, I'll be walking through the process of creating an area by looking at one of the largest in the game: the Amber Woods!Believe it or not, the Amber Woods wasn't an area that was originally planned to exist in the game at all. To explain why it was added, I need to back up a little and talk about how the game's world evolved from my initial plans. Along the way we'll also be talking about game structure, some i...
Behind the scenes: The evolution of the SLARPG OST's album cover!
With the Super Lesbian Animal RPG soundtrack getting a physical release via Turtle Pals Tapes, I thought now would be a great time to look at the evolution of the album art! Today I'll be going over the MANY unused ideas we had for the cover, as well as the process for the final art. This post will contain some spoilers for the back half of the game.Early placeholdersEarly on, I made two different placeholders riffing on Gorillaz album covers, because that's an easy thing to do when you have a group of four characters. I made one based o...
Behind the scenes: The SLARPG Prologue Comic
Instead of talking about the game, this month I'm shifting gears to talk about the other big piece of the SLARPG story - the prologue comic by myself and Kyle Smeallie! Let's get right into the story of how I sat on this script for years before it finally got turned into a real comic.Conception"The Offer" was conceived very early in SLARPG's development, with the first draft of the script being written all the way back in the spring of 2016, shortly after the game was announced. It's so old that Faith didn't have a d...
Behind the scenes: SLARPG's writing and worldbuilding tenets
Hi everyone! Here's something a little different for a behind the scenes SLARPG post. While working on the game's story, I developed a list of "writing tenets" outlining some of my main creative goals for writing stories set on Reverie, as well as some general fantasy storytelling tropes I'd rather avoid. Some core worldbuilding stuff is also in there, because good worldbuilding exists to prop up the stories set in that world. These are not Bobby's Universal Rules For Writing A Good Story - storytelling is an art, not a s...
General update: March 2023 (feat. Patreon tier update!)
Hi everyone! It's time for a general update on what I've been up to since SLARPG's launch and what's in store for the near future. But first up, some Patreon-related business to attend to!Patreon tier update!Starting today, my $5 "Adventurers' Guild" tier is back with new rewards! Previously, this was the tier that got people access to the SLARPG Beta and their name in the credits, which obviously isn't a thing I can offer anymore. (And I don't feel comfortable offering the same thing for whatever our next pr...
SLARPG Behind the scenes: Zinnia!
I was considering spacing out my behind the scenes posts to get through more of the early game stuff first, but you know what? Screw it. Let's talk about something I know y'all wanna hear about.Let's talk about Zinnia.(THIS POST CONTAINS VERY HUGE SPOILERS FOR SLARPG AND SHOULD NOT BE READ UNLESS YOU'VE FINISHED THE GAME. YOU'VE BEEN WARNED.)...Original conceptionThe idea for Zinnia came from a few places. For one, dragons are cool. This is a given. I like it when games let the dragons be your friends, rather than just being...
Behind the scenes: SLARPG story outline, first draft!
For my next behind-the-scenes post, here's something special (and big): the earliest story outline ever written for SLARPG. This was put together in late 2017, prior to the demo, at Bee's request. At the time I was still primarily working on Act I and the foundational work for the game as a whole as we geared up for the demo. We already knew much of the story at that point, especially given SLARPG is a reimagining of a previous project, but this was the first time I had ever actually sat down and written a relatively detailed summary.So...
SLARPG behind the scenes: Unused palette swaps!
A look at the unused ideas I tried out for SLARPG's palette swap gags!(This post will spoil a joke in Act II of SLARPG, if you care.)I already have a couple other writing-related posts ready to go, but I figured I'd mix things up first with something more visual, and also sillier. So here's a look at the unused ideas I tried out for the palette swap gags! And yes, every single one of them is a reference to a character from something else.MELODYMelody went through two iterations!1. Krystal (Star Fox). While there are many orange foxe...
Behind the scenes: SLARPG's scrapped intro!
(Quick side note: If you missed it, the OST is out now! Go get it!!!)Hi everyone! With the game finished, I'm going to be putting together special peeks into the development of SLARPG for my patrons! I'll release these to the public eventually, I'm sure, but for now these can be backer-exclusive since I haven't given y'all nearly enough exclusive content over the years.Anyway, what better place to start than the beginning of the game?In early 2020, I returned to the start of the game to complete the intro sequence and everyt...
PSD: SLARPG OST cover
Thanks to the new patrons who joined at the $10 tier around the game's launch! Here's a big one for the PSD collection: the album art for the SLARPG soundtrack! If you're new to the tier, you can get past PSD releases via the "PSD" tag.
A new year begins...
And so here we are. 2023. The first post-SLARPG year of my life. Things are going to be different around here! For one, this Patreon needs some retooling now that the game it was funding is out. I already unpublished the old $5 tier that promised a Beta copy of the game, and I don't currently plan on doing that again for the next game. It was a very odd way of doing things for a game without a long early access period, kind of halfway between a Kickstarter and a Patreon, and I think continuing to offer copies of a nebulous "next game"...
SUPER LESBIAN ANIMAL RPG IS OUT NOW!!!
I'll probably write something more substantial about this later when I'm less exhausted. For the time being, the important thing is that after years of development, SLARPG is finally out and available for purchase. You can get it now on Steam and itch. Enjoy, everyone!(The rest of the prologue comic also went up! You can read that on Twitter, Tumblr, or the game's site. It's also included in the download for the itch version.)Thank you so much for all of your support over the years. The game we ended up making would not exist in...
SLARPG Prologue Comic: Pages 1-4
Since many of y'all will be able to play the game tomorrow, here's an early sneak peek at the first third of the prologue comic! I'm ecstatic how this collab with Kyle is turning out. Better than I could have imagined. The rest of the comic will be posted closer to release! We're finishing that this week alongside the Beta.
After seven long years...
The first round of players will be receiving the Beta version of Super Lesbian Animal RPG.Tomorrow.It's been a long time coming. But we're finally ready for the world to see the game. Or, at least, the part of the world represented by the 230-ish Patreon supporters of mine who are getting the game early. And yes, said Beta is the full game, just presumably with a few more small bugs and balance issues than the public release will have. (It's a Beta, after all.) This story means the world to me, and we can't wait for everyone to ...
IMPORTANT: SLARPG Beta rewards survey! (please fill this out)
Hi everyone! The SLARPG Patreon Beta is almost here for everyone who's ever pledged to this Patreon at the $5 tier or above. We're putting the finishing touches on the game as we speak to get it to y'all ASAP. While I hoped it would be ready around the end of November, it's now gonna have to be pushed back ever so slightly to early December. Either way, we're mere days away!In order to make sure everyone gets their download keys for their preferred storefront and all the right names are in the backer credits, I've create...
SLARPG - Main trailer!!!
Here it is! The trailer!!! I don't need to write a whole long thing about it here on Patreon, I think it speaks for itself. Enjoy!
SLARPG: General update October 2022 (feat. Prologue Comic sneak peek!!)

On to the news for the month. The TrailerI'm working on the main trailer for the game! It'll be done Soon. Another PSD roundup!
A fresh batch of source PSDs for those of y'all in the Archivist tier! This time we've got: The main key art for SLARPG, including a bunch of WIP layers with some unused sketches The drawing of Jodie working out I did to celebrate the Year of the Tiger The mugshot art of Mint, the fairy blacksmith previously created through the "Let's Make an NPC" polls on here And that quick drawing of my fursona as a bunny I did when a personality quiz told me that should be my fursonaWish I had more to share right now, but most of my time...
Super Lesbian Animal RPG launches THIS DECEMBER! On STEAM, even! (Also, we have a website!)
And here it is! Our first big piece of news as we enter the buildup towards launch. I can finally, officially say that SLARPG will be released this December!! It's stretching my promise that SLARPG would be out in 2022 to its limit, but hey, it's happening. (More on that launch window below.)That's not all!STEAM! (And itch!)After many requests, I can also officially say that SLARPG will be released not only on itch.io, but also Steam! The store page is up now. And hey, if you want an easy way to help us out, add it to your wishlist ...
SLARPG: General update August 2022
Hi everyone! Just a quick one for this month. I'll have more news to share very, VERY soon - not a release date or a trailer just yet, but something important and exciting nonetheless. In the meantime, here's a smaller update! While this has been a busy month, my work on the game itself was mostly relegated to fixing small bugs as private Alpha playtesting continues. That's been going well, although it obviously takes a while for my friends to play the whole game in their spare time. While everyone tests the game and Bee wraps up the...
SLARPG: General update July 2022
Hello everyone! Last month, Super Lesbian Animal RPG reached Alpha. After seven years, the whole story was finally playable from start to finish. Now, at the tail end of July, I've slowly started to send this early build off to friends for playtesting and feedback. Before that, though, there were a few last things to take care of!On Bee's end, this meant fine tuning the entire soundtrack, getting (almost) every song in the game's massive 80+ track OST in near-final shape. Everything's sounding that little bit more clear and prof...
SLARPG: General update June 2022
Super Lesbian Animal RPG has reached Alpha.(Happy Pride, everyone!)After seven long years of on-and-off work, the entire story is there. It exists outside of my head. Anthony and Bee have played the final act and the epilogue and seen the credits roll on the game we made together. There's still a lot of work to be done. Polishing, bug fixing, adjustments based on testing feedback, some last bits of optional content that I had skipped over, placeholder art assets that need to be replaced, the bestiary. Not to mention all of the promotional wo...
