A bit of a false impression of Germany
I suggested to send one of the LoRa nodes flying with helium balloons. The Chinese developer didn't think that was such a good idea tho.Had a good laugh at the thought of a fighter jet squadron buzzing by to shoot my colorful party balloons :)
Embedded LEDs in a flexible 3D print
Last minute Reddit Secret Santa gift for a dog owner: 3D printed flexible LED collarBesides the LEDs there's also a battery and a charge controller embedded in the infill structure. I've just paused the print for 5 minutes and squeezed it all in. Then I've epoxied magnets on both ends so that they only fit together in the right orientation. The magnets of one side are connected to the battery+/- and charge +/-, the magnets on the other side are connected to the LEDs +/- and nothing. When the collar is closed the LEDs light up.A USB c...
Censoring makes this especially exciting
Maybe it's just a Keithley T-shirt (which would be awesome come to think of it ... ) or maybe it's a huge 50" touch screen scope like the one that Applied Science used recently? We may never know because it might not even make it through customs ...
Monthly payment schedule Act 3
Alright, the vote ended in favor of switching to the monthly payment schedule. To everyone and to those, who voted against it especially, I wanted to say again, that I appreciate your support a ton. But Patreon is not a crucial part of my livelihood (yet). So if you want to show them what you think about their new policies by leaving, you can totally do so.Seeing someone leave doesn't feel good, but I understand the reason and of course everyone is welcome to return at any time. Also: Got a nice 1W infrared laser diode. That will be the last ...
IoT stuff is usually scoffed at but ...
... when a thing has kilometers of wireless range and years of battery life, that might change?
Poll: Monthly payment schedule
My last question about this was purely based on a private message I got from a new patron. What a weird coincidence, that the day after that a rearrangement of Patreon, Inc. fees were announced. I absolutely didn't know about that. The most important change I can see in wall of text is, that patrons will see a 2.9% + $0.35 service fee added to every single paid post. Now people who enjoy goofy electronics videos on YouTube are most likely upper middle class citizens, who aren't devastated by spending a few cents extra. But I couldn't ...
Now this ... this is one sexy stepper motor
I think general purpose cnc machines don't need encoder feedback, because step loss is almost always audible. But since I am still pursuing my ideal-machine-agenda, I think I'll use these hybrid stepper motors with built-in rotary encoders.Proper glass linear encoders on the moving parts of the machine would be even better, but that would be a huge overkill, wouldn't it?After trying no less than 11 CNC shops I just got the first quote for the base plate, that I could afford. It will be made from C45 steel only, but if I invest anoth...
For the holidays
Since I still didn't manage to get a newer source measure unit I wanted to try and DIY one soon. With modern components I think it isn't nearly as difficult as older Keithley gear makes it look. Also µA sensitivity is absolutely sufficient for me, but once I get that working, I could look into nA and maybe even pA?I think a 3 channel model would be much more useful than just 3 times the usefulness of 1 channel, because it could be used as a curve tracer for 3 pin semiconductors, analyzer for 3 phase brushless motors and so much more. J...
Something bigger?
Friend of mine has a large ISO container and wants to equip it with a lot of electronics: Battery, Lights, Surveillance, door locking, global GPS tracking and remote control ...Would that be interesting?Any ideas for things I should suggest?
Can't be that expensive, amiright?
500 x 500 mm precision ground steel plate with 400 M3 threaded holes?
Have signed up for Reddits Secret Santa

3D printing time lapse thingy
Attached a full HD USB camera to an old bendable work lamp and a Raspberry Pi to its clamp base.Surprisingly handy! Very susceptible to vibration tho ...
Couldn't resist
Discount broken mic, not the best brand even when working, but the enclosure is very nice and better capsules, pre-amps can be fitted ...
Early 2013 footage
I already knew precisely what I wanted, but not how to take a good video at the same time :)
PCB Laser progress: .2 mm traces, 0402 and QFN24 footprints
With pretty high speed too, as can be seen by the squiggly lines. Those are from vibrations after a fast deceleration. And with almost no fine-tuning, as can be seen by the 'leftovers' in between some pads ...Exciting stuff if I may say so ...
Tiny distraction on the way to the new laser video
405 nm 300 mW laser on a Cetus 3D printer
Not even my new R&S scope has this feature
A real brushless gimbal stabilizer :)
I wonder if this is a fun job
Involves a lot of climbing I guess, but apart from that it looks like fun ...
Raunchy gadgets extravaganza
As promised, a whole video about cheap Chinese gadgets! Not a publication I am proud of, but the old 'free toys' argument is hard to beat ...
Schedule + new end screen
Hello, friends!I just noticed, that you have already reached my 100$ goal, for which I am most grateful. In return I have promised a schedule, but that may have been a silly idea, because I am already sticking to it mostly ...From here on out I will try to release at least 1 original video and any number of product videos per month.I also want to make a new universal end screen for all videos to accommodate YTs end screen features and honorable mentions for patrons.I am not entirely sure yet, how that will look, but I wanted to ask if anyone wa...
